^It's because Disney wanted to compete with the thrill parks around the area. They say stuff like lack of budget, and whatnot, but really Disney wants to get the people away from parks from Magic Mountain, and Knott's Berry Farm too. They aren't stupid. That's why you have a park like Animal Kingdom in order to divert Busch Gardens traffic.
Does it really matter if they take it out? To me, it doesn't matter if they keep it or take it out as I don't care for those rides anyway (S&S Power shot). I think taking out the Mickey on California Screamin is dumb, and the Ferris Wheel changeover is kind of dumb, and to me that stuff won't really help the park. I think the Little Mermaid, and the Test Track ride is going to help the park, but I think they even need another big attraction. Really, the Little Mermaid is a small dark ride such as something like Winnie the Pooh, and is that really going to help the park get the 14 million people range? It's a start, but I think another main attraction would be important. I understand they are adding more in Cars Land than the Test Track, but nothing in that area looks that great besides the Test Track ride. They should take out those planes that go in circle, or that Parachute ride.
It's Tough to be a Bug to me is the probably the most scariest anticpated ride I've been on, and you are subjected that to little kids. That could even go for something else. The park needs work if they want such high attendance. The park that I can think of doesn't have many stage shows besides Aladdin. To me, it would be a great idea to take a show from WDW Hollywood Studios or Animal Kingdom, and place it in California Adventure, or even make a new one. Where to put it? Maybe, put it in the Bread factory, or there is a Tortilla Factory? Do they really need those places?
"I've been staring at the world, waiting. All the trouble and all the pain we're facing. Too much light to be livin' in the dark. Why waste time? We only got one life. Together we can be the CHANGE. So go and let your heart burn bright"

The only thing remotely scary about this are the hosts warning everybody every five seconds that the film may be too scary for children. If I was a kid, that would terrify me thinking this wouldn't be some fun thing.

Both Disney parks also suffered from budgets being cut by half or more during the time period. The DCA thrill-ish section was a great idea, there was just nothing

[/quote That last part had a lot to do with World of Color. As shown by the crowds, it has been a smash hit for the park to the point they need 3 shows a night with tickets only to get in.

Most of the additions are fixing the screw-up from when the park was built. Little Mermaid will provide a very large (think Haunted Mansion) dark ride and Cars Land will provide family thrills. The park lacked/still does lack both of those since opening. I do agree they need more, but with 1 billion being spent, it's time to share the $$$ with other Disney Parks (I'm looking at you Animal Kingdom.)
The reason its being removed is because you have ToT on the other side of the park that provides a themed experience with a better cycle. Plus you don't have the stupid "scream shields". It would be a better fit at a SF park, which is why the GAdv people and MM people were talking about it because they're the only parks without a drop tower that could really use one.
Can someone explain to me what the "Scream shields" are? And perhaps show me a photo? (I obviously know what they are used for, id like to see whats the big deal about them)
Wow, those shields are the most ridiculous thing i've ever seen on an amusement park attraction ever... And I thought the seat belts that CF installed on sitdown loopers where bad.

+1
I will go one better. I felt that seat belts on Columbia and AGR @ SFGAm was bad. I thought you could not go any lower then the bottle of the barrel. But, when you lift UP that barrel, you will find these shields.
What is the reason to have them? What benefit do they serve? I would think that would make the ride worse for someone.
Take the person that is may be somewhat catastrophic. Having a shield inches from their face is NOT going to make the ride a fun experience.
Well, I hope the residents near SFGAm don't see that! I know that is always what they complain about at the board meetings when the park wants to add something new. Its not the height of the ride, or what it is made of (wood or steel) or where its at in the park...its the screams of the riders they don't like.
Note to self: Never show that video to the residents of Gurnee, IL....
Here's my theory If you lived around Sgfam BEFORE the park was built you have a right to complain. However if you moved into that area after the park opened it's your problem and you hae no right to complain.
I am glad it's being removed, with Tower of Terror on the other side of the park there is no reason for it to be there and is just an eyesore with bad capacity. Also in regards to the scream shields, the park is not only in the middle of Anaheim, this area of the park is right next to Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel which is over 10 stories and has 500 rooms. Not exactly ideal placement for a S&S drop tower and roller coaster (California Screamin also has scream shields on the first hill/drops).
California seems to have problems like that. Knott's has scream shields on GhostRider also.
Maliboomer never belonged at a Disney park. The whole California Adventure park was built on the cheap. Especially if you compare it to Universal Orlando's second park, you can tell Disney was just being greedy and trying to steal attendance from Magic Mountain and Knott's. It was a fail though - who would pay the Disney price for basically a second Magic Mountain?
That's all that California Adventure was, which is why they're upgrading it. It was really like a Six Flags park with a Disney name. Little theming, generic rides, etc. Well, that's how I view all Disney parks in comparison to Universal, but that's just me.
