Has it ever occurred to you that you're dry park is essentially completed? If you actually knew a thing about amusement parks you would know that eventually they get perfect and nothing else needs to get added. Everything is proportional. One of the chains most popular parks? Do you know how hypocritical you sound right now? YOU'RE IN THE TOP THREE MOST POPULAR PARKS IN THE CHAIN. STOP COMPLAINING! Great America is perfect. You guys were making Chang out to be the greatest thing ever, then when you saw the plans you were all pissed. Some of you even wished if away. Well your wish came true. Now look at you, those some people are pissed even more. Be happy for once, knowing that Great America is a perfect park.
Its what I've been saying all along. SFGam is a rock solid park and having 2 of the same type would do more hurt than help. A waterpark expansion is what you need. The waterpark hits capacity alot and this will only help your park become even more rock solid
Haha sorry about the uproar - just postin' the news as it comes.
But you guys do have a perfect park. And you can have Chang if you want, as long as we can take Yankee Clipper, Orbit, Columbia Carousel, Triple Play, East River Crawler, Hometown Fun Machine, Revolution, and something else
Chang is good at GADV? Why? Because its a new ride concept for the area, and even though its used, it can be advertised as a brand new ride. It will pretty much complete their coaster collection, so they can start building more family rides, kinda like what we did the last 7 years after Deja Vu, V2, and Superman. Iron Wolf is hated at Great America. When they would have seen Chang as a standup, theres no way it could be a hit. Even with GADVs elite coaster lineup Chang will still be popular, because of how unique it is to the area.
Top 5: 1) El Toro. 2) Maverick. 3) Millenium Force. 4) Diamondback. 5) X2. Coaster Count: 167 (41 Wood, 125 Steel) @Coaster_Cole on Twitter
I'm still sad that GAm didn't get Chang even if it was a 13 year old coaster and it was a stand up. I am although happy GAdv is getting Chang at the same time. It will definitly be a hit with the park with the whole stand up concept. I just hope this means Weber has better things in mind for GAm in terms of a new coaster. Weber knows we GAm fanboys have been waiting for a new thrill for a long time and I have a feeling he won't dissapoint us.
I just always thought Chang was a good idea because we all know Iron Wolf will be put down sooner or later. Just like Demon and Whizzer. I don't think most would complain about 2 stand ups as Wolf is a ride very few ride even on busy days. So what was the problem? Chang>Iron Wolf.
The whole, TOW STANDUPS, debate is stupid. Flat out stupid.
Would you say that Viper doesn't belong because we already have Eagle? Or Dipper should have never been purchased because we have Eagle? No.
Do you think that two stand-up coasters with totally different layouts will really make anyone care? The GP will just be happy that we're getting something new.
Im not sure if you realized, but Iron Wolf is one of the most hated rides in your park, and another one wouldn't be the same. You need the waterpark expansion. Gadv can market a big standup coaster better because there are none in the northeast. GASM was getting old and they had to weld areas constantly and people would get anngry if something not at the caliber of Chang was put in the place of the ride that saved the park.
I am almost positive that they didn't have to constantly weld that track. By this logic, we should have gotten rid of Demon ages ago.
I know, the forces aren't as bad, but the coaster is nearly 40 years old. It has withstood snow every winter, and rain. Demon should have been long gone, but it's still alive and kicking.

It's a different idea when the coaster is a gimmick coaster. Stand-up, 4-D, dive, water coaster ect. are just gimmicks. With wooden coasters, you run into different styles like you do with steel coasters.

Shockwave got welding work almost daily (hence the crane always parked near the first loop), wouldn't surprise me if GASM was the same way.
I think all Arrow Coasters are the same way. On Vortex at KI look closely at Vortex, especially the boomerang right next to the midway, where the supports attach to the track, there is more weld than there is original metal.

Deal. But we get El Toro, Nitro, and Kingda Ka too.

...is this insulting us or complimenting us...
The last thrill ride we got was Superman in '03, which was a clone that showed up around the country. Dark Knight, Ragin Cajun and Little Dipper all family rides. Great Adventure got Kingda Ka in '05, El Toro in '06 and Medusa revamped in '09. Now they're getting Chang by all reports. MM got Scream, Tatsu, Terminator and a revamped X since 2003. See what I'm getting at here?
Great America is one of the most popular parks in the chain because of where it's located, between Chicago and Milwaukee. They're the only park here. That's why the place is packed, not because it's perfect. The landlocked excuse gets thrown around a lot for why we don't get the thrill rides as often as GAd or MM, but there's room. It can be made. When Chang started to arrive here we thought that maybe we'd get something. We were wrong, so we were somewhat upset. Meanwhile, the rich get richer.
No park is perfect, and Chang wouldn't have made Great America perfect either. But it would have been nice to see this park get something it probably deserves.
Hank Salemi's right hand (I forget his name) said that our skyline is, "near complete" Which means that we still do need one or two more additions to call out park great.
Acquaz10, If you were a constant visitor, and you actually go to the park weekly or bi-monthly, you might see that our park is far from perfect. Even far from great. We need quite a bit of revamping.
I really wish the park sort of made HomeTown Square like CGA's is, very open to the entrance, no big train tracks blocking it.

No it's not they had Shockwave as part of the Ride Rotation Program
^^I'm not GP, and I didn't like Shockwave, and I like Superman Ultimate Flight.

It was complimenting you. GAdv lost more than thirty rides in less than ten years. They also added a Wiggles World and closed off an entire section. So you understand that GrAm is in a different market. GAdv and MM are in a competitive market. GAdv has Dorney and Hershey to compete with. Both very successful family and thrill parks.
From an SEC Filing about Six Flags
Six Flags Magic Mountain’s principal competitors include Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure, each in Anaheim, California, located approximately 60 miles from the park, Universal Studios Hollywood in Universal City, California, located approximately 20 miles from the park, Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park, California, located approximately 50 miles from the park, Sea World of California in San Diego, California, located approximately 150 miles from the park and Legoland in Carlsbad, California, located approximately 130 miles from the park. Six Flags Hurricane Harbor’s competitors include Soak City USA Waterpark and Raging Waters, each located approximately 50 miles from the water park.
Now for GrAm. Here is a quote from the SEC filing.
Six Flags Great America currently has no direct theme park competitors in the region, but does compete to some extent with Kings Island, located near Cincinnati, Ohio, approximately 350 miles from the park; Cedar Point, located in Sandusky, Ohio, approximately 340 miles from the park; and Six Flags St. Louis, a Company owned park located outside St. Louis, Missouri, approximately 320 miles from the park. The water park competes with numerous water parks in the Wisconsin Dells area, approximately 170 miles from the park.
That about sums it about. Magic Mountain and Great Adventure need those attractions to keep bringing people in. It really doesn't matter what Great America adds because its successful either way. A perfect, essentially complete amusement park.
Now David, every park needs revamping, I understand that. Lets see what 2011 brings. I wasn't talking perfect like that. No park is perfect in that sense I would say.
This argument can go both ways. You guys are blind and to hard headed. You want that thrill ride, I understand. So does a lot of the other parks in the chain. Every other park thinks they're the most deserving. I don't know where I'm taking this so I'll just stop typing.

That can mean, that the skyline is lacking a Ferris Wheel or another large non-coaster. As for "needing quite a bit of revamping" Where? What park are you going to? Great America has 14 coasters, We've got a Stand-up, a Flyer, Hyper, an amazing invert, A world class waterpark, a Drop Tower, a very nice collection of flats and on yeah, The Tallest and fastest wooden racing coaster in the world? Factor in Viper and Columbia and this is a park that needs "quite a bit of revamping?"
No Great America is a complete park, period and there is no other park in this country that has as diverse line-up of coasters as Great America. SFGAm, is about as well rounded as you can get.
As for the CGA comparison? If that park is even a park in the next 3 years, that would be saying something, I'm not saying SFGAm is perfect, but no park is, Cedar Point sure as hell isn't perfect, SFMM is that perfect? NOT a chance in hell. But of all the parks I've been too, And I've been to plenty, there Is not a park that as well rounded as SFGAm.
So what SFGAdv got Chang boo hoo... If anyone thinks SFGAm sucks, or isnt thrilling kindly stop visiting the park, that will make the lines a lot less shorter for me who thoroughly enjoys the park as it is currently.

Six Flags also has Indiana Beach which they don't list, and is closer than the 350 miles away. Sure carnivals aren't theme parks, but they are competition too, and even though WDW is so far away, I overhear people talking about WDW at SFGAm, so no competition?? Though for SFGAdv, a lot of those parks in Pennsylvania are not coaster parks, and thus SFGAdv is more in a class of it's own. I think Busch Gardens is around there, and that's a huge competition more than let's say Dorney Park, or Knoebels.
