It is a little sad that many Arrow coasters are reaching the age where they are expensive to keep up and not very popular. While some Arrow's are horrible, horrible rides, others are forceful and exciting experiences. I'm bummed to see many of them go, because you won't see coasters like them again.

You know, right about now would be a good time for S&S to pop out the Arrow books and start a track replacement service, for cheap. I think that could be beneficiary to both S&S and Parks. Think about it, Imagine an almost totally re-tracked Demon! Still has the Arrow Charm, and everything.
Also, wouldn't Viper be going next year by the logic that GASM was becoming to hard to maintain? That would also mean that Demon should have been long gone, yet both ours and CGA's are running without flaws.
There's a big difference in the forces experienced by a small double loop and double corkscrew roller coaster that has a max speed of 50 mph, to a very large triple loop, double corkscrew, and batwing with a max speed of 68 mph. One is going to age much faster because steel is steel. It's not like they can use certain high strength steel on one coaster and regular steel on the other coaster so they age at the same pace.
"Park staff later claimed that they were offered a hundred bucks a pop to try to the slide, but refused after seeing that test dummies often emerged on the other end dismembered. The looping slide was actually closed down for most of the park’s life due to these injury concerns."
^ Exactly. Demon is relatively tiny compared to GASM, and GASM goes much higher, lower, and faster, zooming through loops and corkscrews and other inversions.
But the reason GASM was closed wasn't the parts. It was cracks in the tracks that would occur weekly that had to be repaired which was costly. That was the reason why the ride was closed early, the sooner they could stop paying to expensively repair a generally hated ride, the better.
Im suprised they didn't close the ride sooner due to the track tearing itself apart. Does anyone know how long this ride has gone tearing itself apart? And if Sharpiro was still here do you think he would have kept GASM for a few more years since he planned on giving Chang to us and from what I've heard had no intention of getting rid of GASM.

For the replacement service, it's not like these companies couldn't spend money to fix stuff on rides, but rather they figure why spend the money on something people aren't riding as much, and geting something new instead. For Viper, who knows if they would tear it down. The thing with Magic Mountain is that they want the most roller coasters like it really matters to the GP, and they might put up with it for a longer time. I hear Revolution is a hated ride over there becuase of the otsrs, but they keep it running. I feel the reason Demon is still around is because it's a stepper up roller coaster with a low height requirement.

Not at all. X2 is by far the parks biggest draw and signature ride. Numerous times i've been waiting in a line well over an hour for X2 watching half-empty Viper trains whiz by.
ilovethevu wrote:Again, how many trains were there for this ride? I never got a real answer.
3, although in its later years, much like Shockwave, I doubt it simultaneously ran all of them. Last time I went to GADV they took it down to 1 train op because the lack of line.

At Magic Mountain, Viper isn't even close to the best ride at Magic Mountain, and let's just say I exclude Deja Vu for the fun of it (Because obviously, I'm going to say Deja Vu is the best there). You have Ninja, Scream!, Riddler's Revenge, X (I haven't ridden the new X2) as some awesome rides. I haven't ridden Tatsu because it was still in construction the year I went. And I will add in Colossus, but besides Deja Vu, for me the best ride is Batman the Ride, than Scream!, and than X.

"I would take a re-tracked Demon as our 2011 gift."
Id have to say that'd be a pretty lame gift, then again theres the rumor going around that Screaming Eagle at SFSTL is getting the Twisted Twins trains for 2011. We'll see what happens.

I was recently looking at the removal pictures of the GASM, and honestly it brought back painful memories of Shockwave's removal pictures. It's sad to see the generation of the Arrow mega looper slipping away. I just hope Viper at SFMM can hold out a little longer, or at least until I am able to visit SFMM, which will hopefully be soon. I want to ride their Viper.
Well if the supposed rumors that they were repairing cracking track every few days, then I can easily see Viper leaving next year. Because by the looks of it, Weber could really care less about the whole coaster count thing.

I can't see Viper leaving next year. One thing you never considered is that Magic Mt. is not in a freezing zone and Great Adventure is. That could change how a coaster ages because steel can expand and flex with temperature changes.

Secondly, do you have any idea what it would take to retrack a steel coaster? It's basically pipe that is bent and then welded onto cross braces. So it would take a whole bunch of guys with grinders to grind a rail off of each crossbrace, then have a new one made, and then line it back up and weld it back on. It would probably be cheaper to unbolt a whole section and replace it. Demon is fine the way it is. The trains have just been refurbished. Just accept Demon for what it is, a serviceable sitdown looper for the forseeable future. Your idea is not realistic.

If your hearing that, then you need to get your hearing checked. I damn near fell off my chair laughing when I read that.
I know I disagree and roll my eyes at david as much as the next guy, but I don't see a reason to sign up for a website and already spend your first three posts attacking him. Unless you have a fetish or something. I'll understand.
Really. +1 from me too. Why are you guys crying over a thirteen year old stand-up when you have a perfectly fine one. Alright, sure its rough but who cares. Get over it.
I agree, this might not have been a good site to post this on, because I hear some people are still pissed, but I think he's doing it because of all the bashing to each other that took place.
^We get Chang, and SFGam fanboys get pissy. We weren't pissy when you guys were set to get Chang, we were actually happy for you, atleast I was. I support your guys wanting a new coaster. It would really help the rock solid park you guys have now. Gadv lacks flats, you don't, Gadv lacks water rides, you don't, gadv has less coasters, you guys don't. Gadv has their waterpark seperate gated, you guys don't. I personally LOVE your park, but please, lets not get back into the bashing that took place
