So I heard rumors that this ride has been SBNO all year? Any truth to this? And if so, do you think they are actually taking this out? I hear alot of bad reviews about this ride....I think it'd be pretty fun!
Have a take and don't suck, it's the Jim Rome Show!
My guess is that they are replacing the ride launch system in the ride so it can be more efficient so the park can run the ride at full speed once again, also there is a rumor of one side being themed to Bizarro as well.
I've ridden it, it's quite possibly the most boring ride I've ever ridden. Launch is awful, sense of speed was not there, went just over 1/2 up the tower, and that was in 2001, this year when I was there it looked even worse and I didn't bother riding it. Even at full speed and going all the way up I dont think it'd be all that great, not after rides like Kingda Ka, TTD and other vertical drop coasters.

There is no way to get real airtime on it, best it can possibly do is 0 G's as onces it stops and reverses direction it's a straight up true freefall, unlike the rollover on some coaster drops where you can achieve negative G's with the geometry of a track.

If the rumors are true and they are transforming it into a Bizzaro, it would be stupid of them if they didn't replace the launch system to make the ride more efficeant than it all ready is.
The ride is decent at best, its not even the best roller coaster in Samurai Summit and I'm saying that not even including Tatsu since I haven't rode it if you catch my drift.
The capacity stinks, and the ride stinks. Why even keep the ride anymore? in my opinion, FParker is right in his opinion that is is boring.

Okay I know wikipedia is not the most reliable of sources but it's a good public forum for observation. This is what it says...
"The ride will be closed until Spring 2011. According to a sign placed near the ride's entrance, "Something BIG is happening!". Both sides will race again, and one side will race backwards.
2010/2011 Bizarro Transformation
It has been confirmed that, in the Spring of 2011, Superman: The Escape will return with one side renamed "Bizarro". It is currently unknown if the B side will be counted as a different roller coaster. Bizarro will feature a forward-facing car with the seats facing backwards. Every seat will be angled so that riders will be lying on their backs at a 35 degree angle. Both sides of the ride will have a new Hydraulic Cable launch system. If this does go into effect, the cars will run from 100 to 130 MPH. Both towers will be Re-Painted. Both towers are planned to be extended in height, most likely placing both sides of the ride before Kingda Ka and after Top Thrill Dragster on the record list of tallest roller coasters. The que-lines are currently being retrofitted. Speakers WILL be added to both cars, though it is under questioning since riders will not be able to hear it either way. Bizarro's car will feature Butterfly-style restraints much like the ones on X2, also at Magic Mountain. Superman will have new and improved T-Shaped restraints for maximum security.
"Park staff later claimed that they were offered a hundred bucks a pop to try to the slide, but refused after seeing that test dummies often emerged on the other end dismembered. The looping slide was actually closed down for most of the park’s life due to these injury concerns."
Laying on people's back is just funny. What, is capacity going to go from 15 people per train to 6? That's a great idea. lol I don't believe anything that person says that wrote on Wikipedia considering about the laying on your back part. After that, for me they lose total creditability.

Yeah it would be the same capacity, but I think the wikipedia thing might be true, especially the cable launch system. It would reduce the amount of electricty and also allow them to run cars simultaniously. Also, going for the number 1 title for fastest roller coaster would be something magic mountain would try to do, especially with a roller coaster that has fallen so low, the faster launch would fix the biggest complaints which are not enough acceleration and not enough height. Im not sure about the backwards part, but it will be interesting to see how they pull that off.

The reason that S:TE has not run the full way up the tower is NOT because of maintenance issues, Its because of cost-cutting measures done by SFMM, the ride as you could expect uses A LOT of electricity when its launched. And back in the early part of the 2000s California was under an electricity crisis which significantly had an impact on the ride.
david wrote:Your not going to be fully flat on your back. You will be angled, so when your up the tower it's almost as if your laying on your back.
When, you go up the tower already though, you are on your back, so why would tilting the seats hlep anything at all? And hasn't Six Flags learned what happens with launching high speed rides with cables, what happens like Top Thrill, Xcelerator, and the Kingda Ka problems? Kingda Ka is the tallest roller coaster in America, so why even compete with yourself (Six Flags).
And Terminator, they had speakers on it, and it failed miserably, so now they are going to put them on Superman. And for other rides with speakers at Six Flags, you always hear I went on it, and they weren't working, and the next ride, it was working. Why even bother if they can't get it to work? To me, it's just a dumb, dumb plan if wikipedia is true. To me, this ride deserves the junkyard, and they don't need to replace it with another roller coaster. They have so many, so why get another one. Flats again to me is the problem with this park, and why their attendance is pretty bad besides their constant battle with operations. They have wonderful roller coasters, but if you can't get the whole family to the park, I'm sorry but you failed. You can have a family park with extreme roller coasters in it. And I'm sorry to say it, but even teenagers that love roller coasters want other things to go on besides roller coasters. That's why there are rides like Revolution, Giant Drop, and King Chaos at our park. Though, I would consider something like Space Shuttle America for them too even though it's gone now.

Easy, one word answer to that, wood. Medusa is notably rougher than S:RoS. X2 for some reason works flawlessly. Its the wiring. The wiring is the main problem. Make sense? Also Medusa's wires are exposed... S:RoS, the Intamin rattle is what gets to the audio.
It seems like all you do is complain complain complain. Their attendance is not bad at all, I do not know what you are thinking. Flats... those could be coming. Just wait. They failed at the family park idea. They're never going to get the whole family like Disney does. Why? Because Disney is right up the highway. Knotts, same thing. Thomas Town failed miserably, nothing else in recent years has failed at all. Do some research.
SFMM - The Xtreme Park thats how they market themselves, or used to anyways. More coasters, More screams, More flags, More fun!
Lmao, was it really More Splash? And I know, wrong thread, but Mr. Six definitely was at the end. He's not being retired. SFNE's is More Smile, More Screams, More Fun. But lol. More Splash. Hahahahaha. Sorry. Great Adventure's is More Coasters like SFMM. Just saying...
