If I'm not mistaken, the only differences in the park are:
- More thought out additions. - Better capacity at rides. - Better crowds at the park. - Cleaner overall experience. - Papa John's over uhm, what was that plastic? - Corporate Sponsorships which can very much help you throughout the day! (I got a Skip-The-Line TXT the other day thanks to the Ask! advertisements!)
I went to the park in 2005 pre-shapiro, and it was full of making out, hideous bathrooms, terrible food and service, and VERY slow capacity. I am a real stickler on capacity. If I ever ran an amusement park, you better be in-shape to run the rides!
^I find the first one hilarious! I don't really know what the third one means. People still cut the lines like anything. For Papa Johns / Cold Stone Cremery / Johnny Rockets, if Six Flags could actually make good tasting pizza, and serve in a timely manner, to me it's better to serve your own because you are getting all that money as profit. What they are doing now is just leasing the location, and not getting as much money as let's say the Funnel Cake stand.
For cleaner, I still go in that bathroom just outside the park, and it smells a lot in there this year. I think I went twice this year, and they aren't cleaning that. Really, our park wasn't that filthy to begin with, but I think last time I went I seen graffati on something - maybe it was Dark Knight line (in the part where you are too close to the walls). I feel that Corporate Sponsorships can annoy people to death like for how the Whizzer, and Demon; people get mad about those things. Does it bother me? Not really that much, but I guess the Axe one is the most annoying because it's right in your face when you are just trying to enjoy a ride.
"I've been staring at the world, waiting. All the trouble and all the pain we're facing. Too much light to be livin' in the dark. Why waste time? We only got one life. Together we can be the CHANGE. So go and let your heart burn bright"
Wow. This is REALLY what a company like this needs to buy. EVEN if he wasn't being retired, that is a horrible investment. Not going to get them anyone into the park when it's INSIDE!
But it seems like SFNE goes all out with Mr. Six, then he gets retired. In 2005 we got Mr. Six's Pandemonium with some decent theming. They had the Mr. Six bus near it and Mr. Six things spinning in the helices. You Spin Me Right Round and We Like to Party and other "Mr. Six" related songs would blast when you were on the ride. In 2006 Red Zone got rid of Mr Six. All signs of theming was gone. Ride renamed Pandemonium. Boring theme. No music played.
Fast forward to 2010. Big Hurricane Harbor expansion called Mr. Six's Splash Island. All out theming to Mr. Six and Little Six. You can somewhat see it in that video above. Its not just the wave pool and lazy river but it includes a play structure to the side also. Then they also have the game show.
Its Mr. Six OVERLOAD! Plus everything is long gone. Shapiro / Synder really didn't think Mr. Six was going to come back. They despised him but he was a good marketing strategy in my opinion.
Anyways SFNE is really spending they're money pretty good this year. Only bad purchase was that "wacky inflatable arm flailing tube man" Mr. Six. I want to see these at more parks actually, LOL. They've added new and good themed signs EVERYWHERE. I think all the park are going to start seeing this soon too. Now I don't know if its our new park president or Weber making all these new purchases but there are at least three big new differences noticed around the park each week. Has anything been noticed at Great America?

I think this quote pretty much highlights how ignorant you can be. SFGAm had one of these things the year Mr. Six first made his debut, and if im a betting man, Which I am, Im going to bet that pretty much all the parks either had these things out inside the park the year Mr. Six came out.
As for a horrible investment, since your all knowing about everything what do you think would have been a wise investment in "david-onmics" 2010?
^ Mr. Six is a symbol of the company. They really need to capitalize on that. But setting up something like this which was definitely not cheap. They should work on improving the parks more.
In the early 90's Six Flags used the advertising campaign where they called Great America, "The midwest's solution to Disney." They should use that again. They really need to show what they have to offer over Disney. They can focus on attractions rather than rides. Like they did during the Marriot days. They showed what fun you could have all day. Not what you could ride a few times. This way they can focus on what people can spend on. Feature the good Funnel Cakes, Pizza and such.
Now Mike, why don't you tell me what would be a part of "Mike-onomics". (And I understood the joke, Raegonomics never worked out as it should have. haha. )
Thats what local commercials and radio ads are calling SFNE around here. I know I mention it a lot, but our PR person, Melissa Pinkerton even mentioned it in the video above. Just saying. But yeah they should start using it again.
^ and ^^Nothing says brilliant PR like comparing yourself to biggest and best Disney when you are a regional park. It's an argument the park can not win and will only hurt them. It also shows their PR people have zero creativity and the product is not worth selling on it's own.
You have to remember that the commercials that used to say "bigger than Disneyland and closer to home" were from the mid 90s. Its not very classy but it probably got the job done, I remember old Universal Orlando commercials used to say "fairytales and pixieduest not your thing? Come to Universal Orlando." It is very expensive to take a family across the country for theme parks when you could go to one thats in the area. Shapiro said in an interview that Magic Mountain tries to target low income families, implying that higher-income families will naturally choose Disneyland over SF.
Now though with it being so much easier to gain information and media it would be a bad idea to have that ad campaign. It would be recieved as more of a joke than legitimate, kind of like saying "cleanest theme park in the world." People can go on youtube and watch World of Color and think "wow I cant believe Six Flags would even mention this in their commercial" and chances are they are going to be more inclined to spend the extra $.
The whole SF vs. Disney Parks comparisons we're always having on these boards has really gotten old, they are completely different and we should just enjoy them both. It's nice going to parks with large amounts of details in the buildings, landscaping, theming, signature attractions, and high capacity. But its also nice going to parks that have great coasters, wont get mobbed by strollers, and not have stand around screaming little kids all day (although the loose pre-teens at SF parks can be just as annoying).
Hmmm... Well, let's see, they begin to get rid of Mr. Six in commercials, and there are rumors floating around that Mr. Six is being retired. I don't know. Maybe that means that the rumors are true?
Mike, you really shouldn't be so stubborn with your opinions. Learn to change them.
David, you really do know nothing. If you actually knew stuff about the new commercials you would know Mr. Six is still in them. Just briefly. They still play "We like to party." Their new slogan is More [something] More [something else]. For example this an overview of the new SFNE commercial. The more smiles part was cut out I think. I just found it on YouTube.
"More Smiles, More Screams, More Fun." You also see Mr. Six dancing at the end. I don't think he's retiring, he's just not going to be the focal point of the commercials anymore. I also think he'll go back to being mute.
What don't you understand? Thats a different type of commercial.I don't know why you don't understand that. That commercial does not matter because they're focussing on the coasters. You're not going to see something like that at any other park except for SFMM.
Why don't YOU get it. Mr. Six is NO WHERE and neither is "We Like To Party". They have completely removed anything Mr. Six from those ads. They could have kept the music or him dancing at the end, or his voice, but not a single one. I agree they will look to expans the More ____! Campaign, but likely remove Mr. Six from the picture. I predicted this when almost all the parks got Glow in the Park parades over Mr. Six's Parade. Our park still has the parade, but it is VERY unpopular.
Thats one commercial you're talking about. A commercial thats advertising the amount of coasters. Mr. Six doesn't fit in that commercial at all. He's still in GAdv commercials.
I suggest you stop talking because you're a big know it all. Its hilarious.
It's starts off with some footage of Huricane Harbor and says, "MORE SPLASH!" and then shows families eating around the park and says "MORE FUN!" Then it goes to the whole, "Splash into our free water park!..." spiel. The commercial does NOT feature Mr. Six or We Like to Party. At the end of the ad, it says, "More Splash! More Flags! More Fun!"
So, I now agree. No Mr. Six, but they will expand the More Flags campaign.
