4 New flats for 2004

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby Binks Drake on December 26th, 2003, 12:38 pm
I've heard rumors here that the new GM of GAm is fond of flats and is intending to add 4 new flats next season. I told you all that was outrageous(sp). But now Screamscape, who is usually right, has posted a rumor that GAm will get four new flats! Anyone know anything about this?

So you thought it WAS outrageous, but now that Screamscape of all places has told you we may get new flats you changed your mind? Hmmmmm. Sounds like you are a bit afraid of committing to one thing.

I just read that rumor, and yeah I have heard the rumor of the new flat rides coming. But thats all I have heard. We can speculate on what rides we are getting but nodoby knows anything. DC Comics themed area? God I hope not. That would be awful. What does that have to do with an historical significance of North America's past? They arent all going in Orleans Place, because other rides have already been removed to make room for these new rides.

Drop the new DC Comics area rumor. we'll never get that. Did you all forget our park's name? "GREAT AMERICA". All the areas have to do with the history of america. does comics and stuff like that have anything to do with american history? no. so just drop that rumor because it will never happen.

THANK YOU zjohn1988. Somebody who believes in the original theming. I know there are a lot more of you out there, but its good to hear from you who do. If it weren't for us, SFGAm would just be another Cedar Point, a place with no discernable theme.

I personally believe that we wont get a dc area, but I also believed we would not recieve any "commercially themed" coasters either.

Why would you lock this topic? No offense but you people are so uptight about every topic. For shit sake we all know its a rumor and thats why we are discussing the chances of the rumor coming true. There is absolutily no reason for deleting it. There are topics like this all the time that get locked for no reason. Why dont you just make a freakin' rumor discussion board on the main forum page?

Where ever they go, I hope it doesn't take place of a removed ride.

Some of you need to relax and let the mods do the moderating.

Since this rumor is looking very likely and its the offseason, we don't mind the discussion.

Carry on. :)

Four new flats doesn't seem believeable to me for some reason. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Do you think they would be able to finish 4 flats in one offseason. I mean that would take a lot of work and man power and also the removal of other rides. I think we may get 1 or 2 but 4 seems a little high to me.

usdjock,

Four flats in the offseason would be pretty easy to build :D .

I am sure that there are many more construction projects that are more difficult. Just think of constructing a 420 ft. rocket coaster tower in midwinter...

The Merry-Go-Round spot at the back of the park makes sense. I never thought it was that popular anyways. The Columbia is much more majestic and beautiful and has a higher capacity  .

If this rumor deems true, I really hope that SFGAM fills the spots left void by Power Dive and Cajun Cliffhanger. Those spots have been a bit of an eyesore for a couple of seasons now...

Later one and all :D

I know for a fact that we are getting at least one new flat where PD was.
Its hard to come up with signatures. When I get one it will be right here.

I was just thinking, for the past few years, there have been small rumors about getting a ferris wheel. Maybe this is going to be one of the numerous flat rides we'll be getting. Just a thought. Anyway, four flat rides are possible to build in one off-season. We built two shuttle coasters in one winter (2000/2001) so four flats sounds reasonable.

It wasn't completed during the offseason but I am sure it had nothing to do with time restraints.

I think that four flats is realistic. Pendulum, from GADv will probably go where power dive was. I'd also like something to go where cajin cliffhanger. They only use that during Fright Fest and Mardi Gras, it seems really out of place.

I'm not a big fan of ferris wheels, so I kind of hope that that perticualr rumor isn't true. I hope we get some intense rides. Like SWAT. that would be great. And i really hope something replaces A-Merri-Go-Round in County Fair. It's never open. and when it is all there is on it is three or four peeps.

I'm in agony! I want to know. I can't wait 'til next season. When does SF usually announce new rides. I know last years was in February (I think, correct me if i'm wrong) with superman. Will they even bother to announce flat rides. If there are four they wil probably have commercials or something. Any thoughts?

I am sure they will promote any new rides that they get. Its naturally a marketing tool to get people to visit the park.

While you may not like ferris wheels, the park is in need of one and its a good family attraction.

My friend(park ops friend, just to set the record straight ) told me that the only flat the park is getting is the Pendulum from SFGAdv and its going in PD/TP spot. He said they are also reconfiguring the parade track. He also told me that a new spot for the ride might be chosen but he doesnt know for sure. So next time I talk to him Ill ask him if hes heard anything else dealing with the park, especially the rides.

Not too much longer after the season was over he told me that if DV performs bad next year that it will be taken down after the season is over because they are sick of dealing with it. I like DV and I dont want it to go but if they cant fix it then it should go. If it goes then I bet a/some flat(s) will go in that area(could be those other flats that are rumored for this year).
