Universal Makes Me Want to Go To Disney (USH 5.13)

Let us know how your day at the park was.
Postby Director_Guy on May 23rd, 2010, 3:16 am
Leaving just outside of Hollywood has it's advantages. One being that I'm so close to Universal Studios! The disadvantage, however, is that it's now technically my home park.

But I won't let that get me down. I just bought an kick ass new SLR. A Nikon D5000 and I wanted to try it out a theme park before I make it to Disneyland (where I really want to be).

Image
Decided to take the gang on a trip to our local park.

Image
"We is ready to go!"
Image
There were lots of characters out today, I was happy to see.
Image
Meg is proud to be from IL. (look closely, you'll find her IL tatoo on her hand)

Image
Matt Damon makes George uncomfortable.

Image
So few rides at USH, we have to improvise.

Image
Still workin' down there.
Image
And down there, on the new Transformers ride.

Image
I still think it's funny that the E.T. logo is still visible on top of the building. It's like the ghost of the former attraction.

Image
As much as I dislike this franchise, I am very grateful that USH is getting some rides.

Image
Meg is confused by scary cow.

Image
Down with the chin!
ImageImage
I love this picture.
Image
Lots of interesting stuff in this museum, folks should check it out, if you haven't.
Image
I also like how it looks like the studio is outside this "window". It's just a backdrop!
Image
The Coraline stuff is awesome.
ImageImageImage
Ha! This guy has an awesome shirt! (those who've yet to see Creepshow, find it and watch it. It's awesome)

Image
See? Lots of characters out.

Image
ImageImageImage
Nobody else was willing to get wet, so I went solo.

Image
"You lookin' at mah food?!"
Image
...He's not so tall.

Image
That is one big donut.
Image
Whoopie makes me nervous.
Image
Kong looks pretty ready to go...
Image
Any day now...
Image
What're those weird things on top?
Image
Image
Ahhh!
Image
Heroes ad in Earthquake. Funny.
Image
Kevin Smith was our guide today.
Image
Image
"Oh good, they've caught the shark."
Image
"What the...?"
Image
Ohmygoodness!
Image
If only stupid Whoville wasn't there.
Image
Man, I can't wait for Horror Nights.
Image
"I like bugs."
Image
Not actually Kevin Smith, but a really great guide. I think his name was...Peter...
Image
And look! He's on this thing!
Image
"I'm a pretty girl."
Image
Body dryer. Brilliant.
Image
Nice little area.

Nice TR. But what rides does Universal really have? It seems like the park would get pretty boring.

^ I haven't been to the park BUT what I know they have is

Terminator 3D is an actual show
A tram tour that is long (like a hour) - In it, they have Jaws stuff, Earthquake stuff, water area is flooded, used to have King Kong, you see Grinch stuff, see a bunch of vehicles like Jurassic Park cars - Yeah!, they have a demonstration of Fast and Furious cars on robo arm, go through streets of Hollywood. This is whereas Universal Studios Florida has Earthquake, and Jaws in seperate rides they have it for the tram.
Simpsons Ride
Jurassic Park ride
I think they have Backdraft, or some ride / show that deals with fire stuff.

A Mummy roller coaster - SPOILER ALERT

I think that the difference between this one, and the one in Florida is that there is no part where it stops, and you see fire on the roof, and the mummy comes out, and says his spiel. They probably have that on the Universal Florida one because they want better capacity, and that's another block area.

The biggest issue of of USH's mummy is the space they had to create it. It was built in the former E.T. attraction.

And the tram going through the streets of Hollywood? Are you kidding? That would take forever!

And even better than the grinch, you get to see the Bates Motel from Psycho! *Squee!*

Also, Kong is coming back.

^Oh, you took me literal on that. I meant the fake facades and sets they put up on streets in Universal Hollywood, not the tram goes down the REAL streets of Hollywood. Desperate Housewives shoots over there. Does any other tv series shoot there. Isn't one of the shops from Spider-man movie? I don't know. I think that bridge is from Jurassic Park III where the Pteradactoyls are attacking. I don't know. Thanks for the trip report though!

^No, it's not that bridge. However there are some great and massive sets still there. Like the plain crash from War of the Worlds. Epic. Also, it'll reopen soon, the burned up and rebuilt back to the future courthouse square.

USH is a lot of fun, but you can spend three hours there and be done.
