We are looking to take a weekend trip over to Indiana Beach. Has anybody ever stayed on one of the hotels by the park? I have read mixed reviews about the resorts, ranging from "awesome", to "don't ever stay there". Has anybody have any good recommendations as to were to stay? Also, believe it or not, this will be my first time ever at IB, so what should I expect? We are going the second weekend in May, so hopefully it won't be to crowded.

^The hotels at/by the park that are owned by the same company were being renovated for this year. There big banners all over the park last fall stating as such.
I have only been once but had a blast there. Everything about the park is random in a good way and just works. You will love Cornball Express (front row is an airtime machine, back not so much) and the Hoosier Hurricane. If you get the day pass, don't forget to take the 30 minute boat tour, it's great for photographing the park.

^The 30 minute one is. There is a longer one that is around 90 minutes. However, it cost I think 3-4 dollars if you have the day pass.
On crowds, no matter what you do, hit Steel Hawg and then Lost Coaster first (if it is open.) The lines on both of are bad with Steel Hawg being the single worst capacity I have ever seen on any coaster anywhere.
Not really sure about the hotels at the park but everytime I have gotten a hotel when visiting IB, I always got a room at the Super 8 hotel right off the exit for the park on I-65. Hotel is only like 5 years old, clean, and has an indoor pool.
As far as IB, this is probably my favorite small scale park I have ever been to. It has a boardwalk park atmosphere and it's quirkiness and charm just make it a great place. You will be amazed at how the rides are placed and stacked on top of eachother. They really got creative putting alot of rides in a small space. All the coasters there are fun. The flat ride collection is decent too. The food prices are not inflated like at the corporate parks. You will have fun, guaranteed. I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.
The hotels in the park are amazing. I stayed in the penthouse (now IB suites), and the quality was great. The cool thing is that the hotel is INSIDE the park! No gate to go trough. You can actually walk through the park at midnight!

Thanks for everybodies opinion, I really appreciate them. The family is heading out that way this weekend for a Friday - Sunday stay. Thanks Chitown for the tip on the Super 8. I assume that it is in Remington since that is the only one they have listed as off of 65. Not only that, but it is the only one I found with an indoor pool.
I am sort of curious though. When you buy the tickets, would anybody know if they measure right there? My son is around 1/2" short of 48" If it walks like socialist, quacks like socialist, smells like a socialist, .... it's a socialist. Hope, and change we can believe in.
I've been going to this park for over 30 years...a great park. My kids enjoy it just as much as I do. They are supposed to measure you when you buy tickets, but since most rides require 44" of height, it doesn't affect too many rides (other than Steel Hawg, Lost Coaster, and Tig'rr). The folks at the ticket booth aren't the most energetic, ergo I've never seen anyone come out of the booth to measure someone.
I'll tell you this right now but the park is NOT on it's game at all this year...which is unfortunate. I was there this past Saturday and the park was kind of depressing. 10-12 min dispatches, unfriendly employees, increased prices. I hate to say it but it's turning into Mt Olympus. Depending on where you are you might only want to go there for a day and that way you can save on hotels.
And the park probably won't be busy, but the extremely slow operations will make it feel like it is. [read]
