Dania Beach Hurricane: Boomer's PTR, 12/28/09

Let us know how your day at the park was.

Alright, to make a long story short, my family took a trip by car down to Florida to look over some condos in the Boca Raton area. My dad had mentioned that the last time he was in Ft. Lauderdale, he saw a wooden coaster right off the expressway.

Image
-Sure enough, there it was

Image
-I see a credit!

Image
-Hurricane is located in back of an arcade-ish type of place called "Boomer's"

Image
-What a deal!!!

Image
-Hurricane's signage reminded me a little of Whizzer's

Image
-Station sign

Image
-Manufacturing info on the op. booth

Image
-They were selling t-shirts with this at the ticket counter. Didn't bring extra cash though

Image
-I was glad to be back on a woodie again. Surprisingly, every row delivered an insane amount of airtime. I had red thighs by the end of the night!

Image
-Looks like she got stapled!

Image
-Hurricane gets my seal of approval

Side Notes
-Very rough coaster in places but a great layout and as I mentioned, PACKED with air :D
-Although I didn't expect anything special out of the ops, this team was absolutely AWFUL. During my 13 rides, ops weretexting and talking on their cell phone while checking restraints, reading, listening to their ipods, and one of them even had a laptop. Somehow, we started talking and he claimed to be the 2nd person to ride TTD when he was on the crew at CP. Later on in the night when other employees took over, they put the radio on the station speakers. I won't go into details but it wasn't family-friendly at all and he ignored my request to turn it off. :?
-The hurricane flags at the top of the lift and lights on the structure were a cool effect. :D
-POV should be up soon. Peace

Hrmm, last time I rode it there were no rough spots. I've always held DBH in high reguard, always in my top 5. The best time to ride it between about 1:30 and 2 in the morning on a Sat night, usually it will be running full trains and there will be just enough people there to fill up 2 trains (one group riding, one group walking around). Full train after a full day of operation late at night, it's really hard to top. Those hops at the end really make you see stars. Even the first drop is ok/bad instead of it's usual terrible.

It's to bad the coaster is out in the middle of nowhere, as far as amusement parks go.

I haven't ridden too many woodies so maybe it's just from my perspective but it definately seemed rough in places. I rode it from 5:30-7:30 with 1/4 full trains.

Last time I rode it was about 4 years ago, though before that I rode it at least annually. It could easily have developed some roughness in this time. Forgot to mention originally, that DBH was designed by the same guy who did Viper here at SFGAm, Dennis Starkey. There are a lot of similarities in some of the design elements.
