This site maybe not so much, but I have seen this on countless others. People who are WAY over-critical of roller coasters.
Complaining left and right about the hobby they are supposed to adore.
Example #1: Raging Bull's trim Brakes People sometimes give this ride the un-deserving title of "Kiddie Hyper" what the hell does that mean exactly? the ride is 200+ Feet tall and has a top speed of 73 MPH, not exactly "kiddie" and furthermore, the brakes of the ride are there for a reason, its not like the designers of the ride just said..."Okay, we are going to but brakes here just for the hell of it." theres an obvious reason to this and yet people are hellbent on complaining about it.
Example #2: Scream (SFMM) sucks because its a parking lot coaster Really?.... You going to tell me that an otherwise awesome roller coaster sucks, because... its built on a parking lot. The stupidity of this is right up there with people saying a 200+ foot coaster is a "kiddie coaster"
Example #3: Kingda Ka sucks While this is certainly up for debate and I will probably get the most responses from this one. I find it hard to say that any coaster that stands 456 Feet tall and has a top speed of 128 MPH "sucks".
Example #4: Iron Wolf needs to be torn down This one might have some merit as it has been gradually gotten worse over the years.
Example #5: B&M Hypers suck: Really? And here I thought B&M were called "Beemers" because like the BMW they are supposed to be of the highest quality. Seems to me that any company that produces such rides like: Raging Bull, Nitro, Goliath etc should never be labeled as a sucky ride.
Now these are just a few examples of people going out of there way to complain about roller coasters in general, I find it quite humorous the way people are so pig headed about things that really have no importance what so ever.
So what exactly then is the PERFECT ride?
And im sure even it the "perfect" ride where ever built, people would still find SOMETHING about it to complain about.
Im sure i've left a few examples out, and Im sure people are going to debate me as to why im wrong. Feel free.
I sure everyone on this site would say the perfect roller coaster is X2 or Deja' Vu. Personally, I think Demon and Whizzer are also perfect roller coasters b/c they're perfect for their genre (like movies)
(sings)If you want to be my Chang-y, doesn 't matter if your black or white, or brown, or blue, or green, or red, or orange, or mauve, or yellow... 2010 trips- Dollywood, SFGAm, maybe SoCal
I think some people are just that way; They'll complain no matter what. Six Flags could say that they are going to install clones of X2 and El Toro in every park, and people would still complain about it.

No way! Scream! is one of my favorites, and yes I've been on coasters people consider to be far superior like El Toro, Bizarro, X2, and other such things!
I absolutely hate when people say scream sucks, because in actuality its a lot better then most others, well in my opinion anyway!
Scream is a kickass coaster... yet over on other websites....(coasterbuzz) its affectionately known as "The Parking Lot coaster.
Which begs the question: Who cares if the ride is over a parking lot, of all the things to be complaining about at SFMM, the least of which should be Scream.
The people that put in their input on every little thing about a ride, nitpick at every little deal, complain how their park should have gotten this instead of that, and then they say "Well if I was in charge" or "If I was a designer" well quite frankly you aren't. You aren't an engineer being paid to design roller coasters; you aren't Mark Shapiro. You're sitting behind your computer posting on a fan site dedicated to theme parks. Shut up.
On my last point. People need to stop saying Shapiro is dumb. Flame me on this all you want, but so far the only VALID reasoning a lot of you have is, "HE PUT IN DARK KNIGHT WHEN WE HAVE RAGIN CAJUN AND HE WONT GIVE US A STRATA DIVE MACHINE WITH TWO LAUNCHES." Until you actually can show me some numbers, you have no grounds on saying how "bad" of a person he is.
Remember where you are, and where THEY are; you might just think twice about making that post.
I remember back in the day, right up to like the late 90's, just about everyone in the coaster hobby rode coasters for the love of the hobby. Some were awesome, some weren't that great, but people rode them and moved on. Then there would be events and some people went just to ride the rides, but most went basically to hang out with other people they only see a few times a year if that. It was like one big happy community.
Then all of a sudden in like the early 00's, enthusiasses felt that there were entitled to special treatment at park, and also suddenly all parks needed to have the themeing of Disney combined with the coaster collection of Cedar Point.
I have two theories on how this happened. Both are internet related.
1. Back in the day most people went to parks for the first time as part of an event or from hearsay and the few books that were out there. No one went into a park with any real expectations so people ended up taking parks for what they were worth. With the age of the internet you can read detailed trip reports on parks, and if a park or ride has terrible reviews, people go into the park expecting the worst and looking for every single discrepancy in the park, and it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. If you go somewhere expecting to have an awful time, you probably will, no matter how hard to have to work to make it awful.
2. Back before the internet the people going to events and people in the hobby in general were older and more mature, they had money and did research on where to go and they did their trips and whatnot and had a good time doing it. Now it seems on sites like this (though it's not really that bad here), TPR, Coasterbuzz, etc.. the median age of enthuiasts has dropped down into the teens and even early teens. This tends to create a lot of drama that the old timers and people who have been in the hobby for a long time just don't want to deal with, and it drives them away. So now rather than well rounded enthuiasts talking about rides and parks, you get people who only want to talk about rides like X2, TTD, DV and the latest 400+ foot tall Intamin Giga Big Thing. So what you end up with is a lot of adolescents on the internet who don't have the money, time or ability to travel around and expand their horizons, but they do have time to sit around and complain how their local park is being ripped off by not installing a 50 million dollar Intamin Giga Big Thing and how everything sucks, mainly cause they've ridden the same rides 500 times and they've become boring.
Just my inflation adjusted 2 cents.
Favorite Wood Coasters: The Voyage, Ravine Flyer II, Thunderhead, Balder Favorite Steel: Voltron Nevera, Steel Vengeance, Expedition GeForce, Olympia Looping Parks visited: 232, Coasters Ridden: Steel: 894, Wood: 179, Total: 1073
^ The second point can also hold try for the love of some coasters as well. Raging Bull is an example of this. You get people who are young and only been to SF Great America and small parks, the ride is the "greatest ever!!!11!"

To me, there are 2 crowds that attack this. First are the morons enthusiast that feel no ride should ever have a trim. They feel every wood coaster should use PTC trains with buzzbars and no seat belts. The same group that the entire Magnum ERT at CoasterMania this year was scream "Turn the Trims Off" the entire ride.
The second, which is me, wonders what is the point of making a ride that large if you are going to kill the speed so fast after the drop. To me, it seems like they just could have built it smaller and done the same thing. But it has been there for years and odds are will never change. I don't see the point of complaining more then a first review of the ride.

While this does not go for Scream, it can hold true to a clone coaster. I honestly will not ride Superman at SF Great America more then once a year unless with first time visitors. However, I loved the same ride at SFOG due to the terrain it is.

I couldn't care less that it's on a parking lot, to me I kinda like it there in fact. Scream is my second favorite ride at Magic Mountain, there's something about it that is just really fun, I cant really explain it but I love the ride!
I think saying everyone likes X2 or Deja' Vu. is kinds wrong. a majority yes. but not everyone. I never rode Vu, because I never went to sixflags when they had it. and I can't go to ride X2. I don't like bull, but it doesn't suck. I just feel i isn't worth waiting over a half hour for. I really like Demon and Whizzer. and I feel that it is more that not every one is going to like the same things.
Also, I'm just throwing this outt here, I don't exactly think of dkk as a roller coaster, I treat it as a dark ride, which, in my opinion, makes it a good dark ride.
(sings)If you want to be my Chang-y, doesn 't matter if your black or white, or brown, or blue, or green, or red, or orange, or mauve, or yellow... 2010 trips- Dollywood, SFGAm, maybe SoCal
with no themeing, a kiddie coaster for kids over 4 feet tall! (a watse)

For Raging Bull, I feel it's not even about the trims. I feel that it's about the track not being hilly enough. The ride goes on it's side a lot of the time and to me ruins the airtime.
I really enjoy Scream! at Magic Mountain. I have no problems with it being a "parking lot coaster." Things so different get picked on. Which other park has a roller coaster that doesn't have dirt, grass, water, or gravel underneath? They took the parking lot, and just didn't want to pay the money to redo it so they left it. The time I went they still had these lines underneath it even. http://www.flickr.com/photos/thescorpionlair/101490997/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
For Kingda Ka, all I here is it's a one trick pony. It's a short ride cycle, and that's why people complain. I really enjoy Top Thrill Dragster so I don't have any complaints on that.
For Iron Wolf, if you don't ride it the right way, it's going to beat you up especially with those new harnesses. The older harnesses were nice and cushiony even though they still banged you even if you didn't ride it the right away. These aren't the same way.
For Beemer hypers people not liking them, I think it has to do with people going to multiple parks, and testing other airtime rides like the Intamins especially. What do people rate the #1 steel? It's at New England, and it's Intamin. Diamondback I was disappointed in a little bit, and I think it had to do with my seat on the train, and the amount of airtime (I was in the middle.). That train is in my opinion too long, and the people in the middle aren't going to get as much airtime because it's too long. You couldn't choose a seat. However, Goliath at SFOG is awesome, but I still think Superman at SFA is better (Never been to SFNE.) For Superman and the long train, I got choose where I sat.
The complaint I always hear is that B&Ms are too smooth. I find nothing wrong with B&Ms being smooth.
For Deja Vu, are you kidding me with enthusiasts liking it? Sure, there are some on this board like me, but that ride always gets downplayed. I was in line for it one of the times, and there some ACE people in line, and after they got off of it, they were like, well it's a credit. Usually with enthusiats (maybe just ACE- I don't know. They don't like short circuits, or not full circuits.), they can't stand the idea of short rides like Mr. Freeze, V2, Top Thrill Dragster, Boomerang or Invertigo, Kingda Ka, Superman The Escape (I don't like this ride), and maybe there are a couple more.
"I've been staring at the world, waiting. All the trouble and all the pain we're facing. Too much light to be livin' in the dark. Why waste time? We only got one life. Together we can be the CHANGE. So go and let your heart burn bright"
1- If You Hate To Ride a Coaster Because of "Reason", than Get out and Let Us have shorter Wait Lines.
2- The Dark Knight Coaster was a Cop Out in my opinion. A Mack Dark Ride or Euro Fighter would have Been Much Better.
3- Scream is Bad Cause its A Parking Lot Coaster. Huh?, Nobody complained that Shockwave Was That.
4- B&M Coasters are Too Smooth. Fine Go to Indiana Beach and Ride Steel Hawg.
5- I Think the Reason in 00's why Fans Wanted More was Because of Island's Of Adventure. That Place (Keep in Mind, I Haven't Been There) exploded with Technology, Theming, Rides, Atmosphere and Everything Else.
But Remember It's Not Just Six Flags That Doesn't Shine, Disney Has Problems Too Like; Superstar Limo, Legend of the Lion King, Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor, Journey to Imagination, Doug Live, Playhouse Disney Live, Primeval Whirl, Tomorrowland Indy Speedway, California Adventure, Magic Carpet of Aladin, A Bugs Land, Stitch's Great Escape, and Probably More.
Am I the only one that can find soething good in DK and the laugh floor (i love that ride)

Yep, it's a heck of a lot different than internet forums
Also some of the stuff I went over is showing up in this very thread. Real enthusiasts never ever call any coaster a waste. Not even wild mice that are outdoors with no themeing.

I only called thema watse because I don't know any person in the entire world that would enjoy a roller coaster with little drops and cement themeing over 4 ft tall, once kids are seven, they're not happy with "baby coasters" anymore. With that said, I have absolutly no knowledge of any non-spinning wild mouse with no themeing.

^ apparently, you have never been to Little Amerricka.
Here is a non-spinning wild mouse with no themeing.
Wonderful park up there just east of Madison, WI. If you have never been there, it is worth the trip up there to check it out. They are also home to Hillcrest's Little Dipper (now Meteor), as well as a very cool Train ride.
