Cedar Point 2009

Let us know how your day at the park was.
Postby Superbleachbrothers on August 2nd, 2009, 7:41 pm
DAY ONE

Note: This trip report is very very long. So I recommend to just look at the pics.

After waiting 2 years going to Cedar Point, I finally got there by my parents but my mom's friend Jackie and her husband, Glen took me there. I packed up my stuff including my laptop, and my Fuji camera. I went to Jackies house and slept there. I left the house around 6:30 am and went there. I arrived at CP around 12 and 1. I stayed at the Hotel Breakers for a couple days. Well here are the pics:

Image
Me watching Looney Tunes Back in Action in the car.

Image
She gave us the tickets to the park, our keys to our room, and other stuff we had to sign.

Image
What this? Barrel of Fun?? Doesn't look fun to me.

Image
Millennium Force from our room.

Image
This is my bed.

Image
Tomo gets her own restaurant.

After putting my stuff away, I went to the park with Jackie and Glen. I was not allowed to go on my own because I'm 16 and I can't be alone.

Image
I HATE the police here. They are so damn serious that the last time when I was at CP my sister and her friend got caught at beach or something overnight.

Image
Happy Birthday Magnum! I rode on it and it was awesome.

Image
Raptor Rules the Sky at Cedar Point!

Image
Raptor now has these POV things that they record you while you ride on it. It costs about $15 for each DVD. I didn't buy the DVD because Jackie told me that I was making funny faces and looks like "S*it." If I had the dvd and posted a video me riding it, I could get banned from the Zone for posting it.

Image
"The Future is riding on it."

Image
I rode MF single from the very back so I took this picture from the Station.

Image
Oh no! Godzilla is coming out from the water to destroy CP!

Image
I remembered that the Maverick line used to be the White Water Landing water ride from 1999.

Image
This was my first time riding Maverick. This might be my favorite coaster here.

Image
Lake Erie.

Image
Disaster Transport is a space theme coaster that is controlled by the Data Integration.

How long is that sign been there for?

Image
Lights and Lines.

Image
There was a new walk through thing during night time at Frontier Trail. Its a very cool night time thing to see. You should check it out once you come to the park someday.

Overall, it was a good day, BUT why are there more Asian workers this year?

DAY ONE

After Day one, I got up around 7:40 and went to the park at 9:00 for the early bird thing.

Image
There was a line so I waited for 10 mins to go in.

Image
I ran to Maverick and saw a 20 min wait.

Image
Maverick train

Image
Millennium Force

Image
I ran to Mantis and I saw that the ride was broken and the line was not closed so I went in. I had to wait for over an hour just for the ride to open. I was bored so I took some couple pictures.

Image
This is how you ride Mantis.

Image
The train seats looks smooth.

I asked the ride operator why the coaster was not open. He told me that the braking system was having a problem. The green things in the braking system were not working so I'm thinking that they replaced them.

Finally I rode on Mantis in the back. I really liked that coaster and its much better than Iron Wolf at SFGAm. Less bumpy than IW.

After the ride, my Fuji camera was F***ed up because it says "Focus Error" so I tried to fix it many times but won't work. Damn.

Thankfully, Glen had a kodak camera so I was very happy and I said thanks to him. The only problem with this camera is that there is a date on the downer right.

Image

Image

Image
Wicked Twister, Ferris Wheel, and the beach.

While riding on the Sky Ride, I noticed that the camera took my batteries down. Unfortunately, there are no more pics from me.

Overall, the vacation was really fun and now I'm back home seating on my laptop doing this trip report.

"Overall, it was a good day, BUT why are there more Asian workers this year?"

Well, it's because Six Flags fired them, and replaced them with old men. Does anyone like the new Mr. Six?
It kind of bugs me that these amusement parks are getting so many foreign workers. Considering that some people are out of work, why are they hiring foreigners that don't live in the US? If the Asians live in the US, I'm fine with hiring them, but if it's people from Australia coming to live in a dorm, why hire them when there are so many people looking for a job?

The trip report is NOT that long with your comments. Look at FParker's trip report. That is long, but still good, but that is long. Hmmm, no Top Thrill Dragster. You don't like that ride? I can't believe you waited a hour plus for Mantis. The times I've been there, Millenium Force is like a hour and a 1/2, but yet Mantis is like 20 minutes.

For Maverick, when did you go on that ride that you said it was 20 minutes? Have the GP finally realized that ride isn't that good? The enthusiasts think it's at Cedar Point, it's an Intamin, It's got lights + tunnel, and it's the best ride in the world. Maybe, it's at Cedar Point comes first, than an Intamin. I think that ride is good, but nothing special. The "Mr. Freeze" part is the best part of the ride in my opinion.

The only thing worth riding at CP is Maverick and maybe Dragster... everything else pretty much sucks especially Mantis and Millennium Force is just disapointing, plus wayyyyyyyyyyyy to many people go there..... thats just my opinion though

^^ sshhhhhh you two. How dare you speak in a negative tone about the greatest amusement park in the entire world, with the best coasters. You should be ashamed of yourselfs.

Nice trip report. Did you ride Maverick during the ERT in the morning? I find it hard to beleive that it only had a 20 minute wait.

You say Mantis is better than IW.

Everyone complains about IW, but what I learned about it is that Train #2 has new wheels so it's noticeably smoother than #1. Also, for some weird reason, it doesn't feel as bumpy in the front either.

Mantis is so much better in my opinion than IW because IW is just a short layout. Mantis has so many more elements than IW plus it doesn't have the problem in the corkscrew.

What's the problems with IW's corkscrew? Like I said before, I see no problems with IW.

Cedar Point has Some Rides Better than GAm (Revolution to maXair) but Cedar Point has their flaws too (Seatbelts and Flat Ride Time)

Yeah that was actually what I was comparing too. I get bored with Cedar Point after one visit a year. However, I can go to SFGAm 15-20 times a year and always seem to have a fun time. The quality of rides at SFGAm are more solid and fun. Yeah you cant go 120+ mph 400ft up, but once the adrenaline wears off the rides are boring. Now Whizzer, Demon, Eagle are rides that are timeless and always fun.

Yeah but Cedar Point has more to choose from. The only ride I feel like I am losing at Cedar Point is Viper. American Eagle i can go without, I am scared that any ride could be its last.

Plus Millennium Force > Raging Bull .. Bigger, Faster, more fun
Raptor > Batman the Ride ... Bigger, longer length, Cobra Roll
Wicked Twister > V2 ... Taller, Double Spike, Shorter cooldown period
Mantis > Iron Wolf ... Bigger, Smoother, better overall

Then you still have Maverick which is incredible, Magnum which is a more enjoyable "timeless" ride than AE.

So really CP loses in the wooden category.

As for flats, I think the flats at CP might even be better to. They have Chaos which is awesome, and basically every ride that GAm has.

It has the frontier trail which is better scenery then anything at Great America, along with the Starlight Experience they have at night. The Hot Summer Lights show at closing which is one of a kind and gives you a reason to stay late.

They also play music that goes outside the realm of "I like to Move it Move it" and Rascal Flatts and is actually good. They dont just play the music of the sh.it acts that come to play for the summer concert series like Metro Station all day long.

Listen I love Great America, and I go often, but for those who so easily denounce it ..it doesn't seem to justified. I think its mostly sentimental in how people love SFGAM (and nothing is wrong with that at all)...but Cedar Point is the better park.

and seatbelts? I dont know how any seatbelt can affect a ride other than make it feel more safe as an extra fail safe. if anything I prefer the Intamin seats they use on most rides. They feel secure on their monster rides.

Wanna know how fun Cedar Point is?

We stopped there on our way from BGE at around 6:00 pm and got starlight tickets in the middle of July. We left at 10:00 and I rode everything worth riding at Cedar Point.

Demon Drop, Force, Dragster, and Maverick.

And two of those are REALLY pushing it...

I am probably the only one who feels this way, but give me Batman over Raptor any day. Sure Raptor is longer, and has a cobra roll, but for sheer intensity, I"ll take last row Batman anytime. I have ridden last row on both coasters, and it's not even close. Batman leaves you blastered to your seat.

Yeah but then in all fairness, what do people who come to Great America really feel like is worth riding? A hypercoster with over used trims, a boring flyer, a re-hashed suspended, an impulse launch thats partially broke?

With the exception of Viper, there isn't anything to brag about for our park either. Its only good for us who live close. At least Cedar Point offers more thrilling rides that justifies a visit over 300 miles away.

I have taken 4 different sets of people from the Chicago area to Cedar Point and they all thought it was leaps and bounds above it, and they all thought Maverick was one of their favorite rides of all, so idk where the Maverick love is lacking but that ride is just plain fun. Something we will never get here at Great America.

And Millennium Force not being a great ride? The first 3 portions of the ride are almost identical to Raging Bull.

Millennium Force has the cable lift at 20mph at like 65 degree angle and you are hanging over the lake
Bull has the slow chain lift at 45 degrees that takes forever. Millennium has a 300plus foot drop at 85 degrees . Bull has a 200 foot drop. Milleniums drop leads into the over banked turn which has you practically upside down. Bull's banked turn does not. And Milly goes over 90 mph and Bull goes 70. I dont really see a comparison in my eyes. Bull feels awfully slow once you've ridden Millennium Force

Thrills do not equal great rides at parks. I would say the rides you need to go on at SFGAm are Batman ( scenery in line is enough for me, but ride is just a great time) Viper, Amerieagle (racing is fun and drop is fun, but wait limit's an hour), RagingBull( I don't care if it's not SUPER SPECIAL, the drop is awesome) Demon (a nice ole' corkscrew with tunnels and lights is always a fun time!) Whizzer ( just to whizz around thewoods is awesome).

I do agree that Batman is better than Raptor, but I enjoy Raptor also. However, I personally think there are better more intense rows than the back (like more towards the front). For me, liking SFGAm a little more than Cedar Point is not about sentimental reason, but it's more about having the waterpark included with the regular park. in my opinion, our park would lose (without waterpark) to Cedar Point, but again I think there are better parks than Cedar Point like Magic Mountain, Dorney Park (It's because of the flats more.), and Over Texas.

Cedar Point does not have anything that justifies a 300 mile drive. Especially considering the park with the TALLEST coaster is looked at the same as our park. It's just "Six Flags." But I bet you half the people in NJ are still suckered in to going to CP when they have such a killer ride collection there.

Each year CP gets a new ride, the one they got before gets shunned more and more and more.
All you have to do is look at a Raptor.

You never mentioned that Millennium Force has ANY airtime or force in that little review at all. Funny isnt it?

See when I go to a theme park, I like going and hanging out with friends and just messing around having fun. I have a lot more fun at SFGAm with friends then I do at Cedar Point. Except for the rides, the park is boring. There is something about the atmosphere of SFGAm that is more enjoyable and fun. SFGAm feels like a home. Cedar Point feels like a cookie cutter Cedar Fair park with some good coasters.

Well agree to disagree.

Like i said, I do love Great America, but I personally have more fun going to Cedar Point. For me its a vacation, where Six Flags is something I do on days where I have nothing going on. Scenery wise, I take the beach and lake over what Great America offers.

Sorry for not mentioning any airtime or force on Millennium, but the bottoming out after the drop causes me and many people to grey-out, which is more then enough force for me to handle on a ride. When it comes to airtime, the two big hills after the drop are enough when im focusing mostly on the speed. Call me a bs' er but I think there is a topic about it on a board right now. I am not trying to prove anything, I just am surprised to see people who populate a theme park message board to not have as much love for CP as i would have imagined.

I go there and feel like I am on a real vacation, being on its own island, staying at the hotel on the beach. Walking up and down the beach with Wicked Twister going along the beach. It just has an awesome feel to me. Being able to walk on the beach at like 2am and seeing Magnum next to the hotel tower above with its lights on. For me..its surreal.

Not trying to become hostile here with anyone, and I will continue to visit Great America every few weeks like I always do, but its just my neighborhood playground...thats why i probably feel CP is a step up.

Millennium Force > Raging Bull .. Bigger, Faster, more fun
Raptor > Batman the Ride ... Bigger, longer length, Cobra Roll

I beg to differ, Millennium Force is just a big waste of space, and hardly does anything, everyone thinks its so great because its 310ft, there's absolutely no force to it at all. Millennium Forceless is what it should be called, i'll take raging bull anyday.

And raptor is also horrible, there's no way its better then BTR just because its taller and longer and faster, blah blah blah that ride is crappy to!

The only thing worth it at CP is Maverick.
Make B&M Great Again.
