Swine Flu: Being cautious and courteous

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.
Postby coasterbone on April 28th, 2009, 5:44 pm
I am planning to go to the park this Sunday and although, as of this posting, there are no cases of swine flu in Illinois, there are in several other states including nearby Indiana and Ohio so by the end of the week, I think it is likely we will see it here. I do not wish for people to behave in a paranoid or panicked manner however, I think it would a good idea for all of us planning on going to any park in the country, to behave responsibly and cautiously right now.

Meaning : Clean and sanitize often, practice cough and sneeze courtesy, make sure all refuse, especially that which has touched your mouth goes in proper receptacles and not on the ground in the parking lot, and (this should go without saying but) making sure all body fluids are only released in the proper places including saliva.

I think all it will take to keep this thing from getting much worse is for us to behave responsibly in places with large numbers of people.

My mom has a flu. I will call her to see what she has.

But we are suppose to act like that even before and after the swine flu.

The good news is that nobody in the US has died from it thus far.

There are 2 deaths in California that are suspected to be caused by it. I think I'm a little extra paranoid being a diabetic who can have scary situations with a regular flu but I just think it's a good idea to be mindful that you are touching handrails that thousands of others have touched, (and sat on) drinking from fountains that thousands of others have also. So enjoy but be cautious.

with this flavor of the month on the news, some people have apparently forgot to mention that the standard flu kills 36,000 people annually according to the CDC. So, possibly 2 so far in the us and 150 or so in Mexico. Call me then it gets into a 5 digit numbers then maybe it will be believable that it's actually more dangerous than a regular flu. 7 Digits and maybe I'll at least consider(then still dismiss) the fact that maybe the media isn't completely retarded/incompetent in what they are reporting as if it's the end of the world as we know it.

Like any other virus, hygiene is extremely important, and stay away from diseased people as best you can and everything should be ok.

I'm not a fan of the way the media does things normally however, it past epidemics, we didn't have the media access we have now. Personally, I think millions of people at a heightened sense if diligence that may not be necessary is better than millions sick because they were caught by surprise or did nothing. People don't have to start dying all around. Large numbers of people being sick is a huge strain on resources as well.

Nobody needs to worry about it. As long as you just wash your hands you will be fine. I mean, yeah a few deaths here and there isn't good but that's nothing...

Media will blow anything out of proportion. Just like the whole Mexico scare. We went to Mexico and there was NO problems! There wasn't anything even to worry about.

It's okay guys.

Once this blows over we'll all go back to licking queue rails and wiping with our hands.

I really hate how the media is all over this and causing a huge scare. Now anyone who's heard about it and is sick is thinking that they may have swine flu. I have a bad cough, and all of my friends are asking if I have swine flu. I know they're joking, but I just think it's getting out of hand. Even if you do have it, doesn't it just act like a normal flu? I personally think it's no big deal and think that it has been blown out of proportion by the media because there's no other big news stories to cover.

I seriously think that in a majority of US cases, the patients are paranoid and only think it's swine flu because they've heard about the outbreak. I think that only states on the boarder have something to worry about. There have also been a couple of reports in Wisconsin as well.

Haha. You think you are in trouble? My mom is diabetic and has the flu right now. She has had it for about 5 days now. I have no clue why it isn't going away. And she is a nurse, so if anything, taking care of sick people is worse then handrails.

^A lot. Today at least 10 people said I had swine flu, not only my friends but a lot of teachers as well. I was so sick of that joke by the end of the day.

Amazing to think, it is now only the 4th story on the side of the main story on CNN.com. Wonder if the ratings for the story are already going down so time to find a new sensational story.

It came when a pig ate some bird poop that containted asian flu, the pig already had the flu and the two combined to make a hybrid flu called the swine flu, then a person somehow contacted with the swine flu. That person also had the flu at the time and it created a hybrid flu in the humans. That's why this is dangerous to the public.

Pigs are the worst animals ever. I don't ever use products from pigs...I can live without bacon. And turkey bacon is pretty good.

And no, its not because of this flu and just hate pork. I hated it since I was a kid.
