Indiana Beach news

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.

First off, IB has a new website @ http://www.indianabeach.com

Secondly, what I heard a few weeks ago seems to be definitive as it is now on the website.

"Indiana Beach Resort is turning back the clock by reinstating Free General Admission for the first time since 1972. All guests who visit the resort will receive Free General Admission allowing unlimited access to the historic Indiana Beach Boardwalk and Amusement Park."

General admission was $2, then $2.50 I think. Now anyone can get into the park for free. Of course, you will have to pay to ride. :)

Also, they actually announced a coaster event to take place in mid-August. This is an improvement over when they announced their event in 2008 a week or two before it took place. That was stupid, and resulted in only a handful of people going.

Don't be surprised if there are other minor changes at IB coming as well...but we shall see!

Was browsing and ran across this
http://www.iaapa.org/industry/careeropportunities/jobpost156.asp

Looks like IB is in the market for some new FT operations management, I wonder if Mr. Great Adventure is still running the show there or if their just hiring someone to work under him.

If you're referring to John Collins, he is still at the park (at least he was a couple of weeks ago).

And I think he came from Geauga Lake, not SFGAdv, unless we're talking about two different people, or if he was at SFGAdv before or after GL. Not that it matters. :)

I thought Rick McCurley was hired to run Indiana Beach, maybe im thinking of something else. Now would be a good time for a Fparker post  (who ran SFWOA and SFGAdv before getting replaced with Ron Sevart).

They got rid of general admission price, but if you are only going there for 7 hours because the park is only open from 11-6, you are paying more money. I have listed that pay one price was $23 last year, and now it's $26.95. It's still early, but last year they had a lot of discounts like CVS, Coke, and a supermarket; and I don't see nothing yet for this year.

I kind of think if the park is open from 11 - 6, they should offer more of a discounted price because everyone thinks that it's only open for 7 hours, and I rather go a day when it's open 11 hours. You are paying the same price, but you seem to be getting less time with the 11-6 day.

I've been thinking about this park for 3 years, but haven't went yet. To me, the roller coasters don't look that good in my opinion. Maybe a reason for that is that most of the wooden roller coasters I like are PTC, and they don't have any of them. I've been a Galaxi (Santa's Village), and it's a good ride, but nothing that great. The Jet Star I'm comparing it to the Whizzer. The Tilt-A-Whirl is at other carnivals in IL, and I recently found a spot where a Flying Bobs goes every year. The other ride is the Yo-Yo, and All Star (NAME) in my opinion fixed the tilting on the ride, and Windy City has one also now which is formerly from Santa's Village.

Indiana Beach had the Chaos, and that was the year I was really planning on going there (However, that was the year they took it out.) The paratrooper I haven't been on in so long, but than I found a place that had that, and went on that. That to me just feels like a Cliffhanger, except you are sitting (okay ride- nothing great). I thought before Falling Star was kind of a great ride, but than I went on Six Flags America, and that didn't do it for me anymore.

I think it's Collins, fired from SFWOA. Not 100% sure though. After IB was sold I stopped following everything there for the most part. I do know that someone that was fired from Six Flags is in charge there unless a change has happened recently, which it sounds like it hasn't.

Rick McCurley sounds like a porn name which is why it also sounds familiar to me :)

New site looks great.

I am sure the park will run much smoother this year, now that the new owners have a year under there belts. It seemed to get better as the year went on last year.

Ilovthevu, most the flat rides at Indiana Beach seem to run better then flat rides at other parks. Falling Star especially. Cornball, Steel Hawg and Lost Coaster are reason enough to visit and the atmosphere in the park is unlike most others. It's not really a park you can judge by looking at photos. You need to go there and experience it.

Actually, I hate to sound like a jerk and correct people but...

He wasn't fired from SFWoAdv, when he was there in 2003, he helped the park escape its negative image and had families and strollers (This is all based on Screamscape btw) by mid summer. But Six Flags sold the park and Cedar Fair fired him, not Six Flags. Supposedly Six Flags parks ran better under his management that any other Premier Parks GM. Hmmm, Maybe he should have bought Six Flags.

John Collins is running the park. Megan Morrow (HR) is having a baby and they were looking for a replacement for her while she is gone. They hired a younger guy to take charge. I must say that the management hasn't done that good of job when they have fired several people last year and I'm sure this year will be no different.
