SFstL closing day, Nov.9...

Let us know how your day at the park was.
Postby CoastsToCoasters on November 10th, 2008, 2:11 am
Thank you everyone for the recommendations and tips...

We arrived in St. Louis before 4pm. We did went up in the gateway arch which was beautiful both inside and outside yet scary haha. Those pods are TINY even for tiny people. But bein 630ft up was a pretty sight.
We arrived at the the Holiday inn at sixflags round 6pm saturday night, checked in and went to mcdonalds to get McRib...YUM. They do not have these in sandusky ok! After that we swam in the hotels indoor pool and relaxing hottub then all ended up goin to bed kinda early.

I was one of the first to arise from beauty sleep due to a heart pounding with excitement. From 9am to 10 30am I waited for a friend to come up and meet us. She was generous to give all 6of my friends a coupon to get in for $19.99. We took the shuttle to the park and got us there around 11 40am where great america told me to go to guest services to call them to let the peeps at st.louis know I had a season pass.....I went, filled out this cardfor free entry and she signed it. Told me that was it...didn't wven check haha. Well we waited at the front gates for 15min or so when we saw mr. Freeze goin. We knew what we wanted to do first. Haha. I was told its their "problem child". So we rode that first.

We got into the station and there was no one in there until we heard some screamin that they had guests....wow haha. This station is one of my favorite ones. So blue and neat looking. I hopped in front row for first train and was so excited. My friend was screamin at me to buckle our seat belts together haha. I told her it attaches to her restraint and didn't undersatnd...oh god this just made it ten times better. We pulled right and locked in when it gets too quiet. Then this distant siren goes off and bam! To be honest it does not feel you're goin that fast when inside that tunnel but when you're whipped through the elements it feels so quick. The front and back have great hangtime on the tophat. We rode it three times just lovin it. After this we rode knievel....ugh. Sweet. I loved the speed, twists, banks, and drops. Awsome twisted coaster. I love the ride near the end where you do a few tiny hops before the last bank. Its so fast the whole time. Now honestly, after this the trip bacame completely random. There was no one in the park and rides were closed....like oh TONY HAWK because it valleyed! And may I mention that they did nothing all frickin day to get it back. No ride there. Very sad. But the main reason this trip became random was because the layout is so confusing. SFGam has a great layout where everything connects...this place no. But to make this shortER, the park is beautiful even with no leaves on the trees. There's just this simplistic beauty about the park. But all in all we rode everything EXCEPT...tony and Boss. Appearently it was 40degrees out and for boss to run it needs to be 43out....the entire day it stayed between 39-40.
The park was scheduled to operate 11am-6pm. They announced "attention" a few times over the PA when suddenly....everyone freezes. Literally. They announced the park was going to close due to current weather conditions at 4pm. We glanced at our watches and saw it was 3 15! I was pissed. Just dissapointed ya know? But it was sure a great trip...I had fun being accuainted with some new coasters.

The park had, sorry to say, horrible merch. I found one hoodie I wanted in med. I needed small. I searched every gift shop to find a small. After finding out everyone had L, XL, and 2XL, I went back to the original store when I discovered the doors locked. Mad again. There was no great knievel merch no freeze merch whatsoever. The neatest thing I found were the boss shotglasses. Did I get one? No. It never opened. But can I say that after 4pm, the sun had come out. The boss could have opened...whatevs. Though disappointed a few times, I and the group still had fun.

I will overview the other rides for you...
Batman- been on it, yeah but the mirrored thing threw me off a couple times. Much smoother than ours I thought. But that theming and que....no. Ours is done better.
Superman- intamin drop tower...of course it was good. I found it awkwardly placed and weird. The cars drop one after the other and you can feel it. We were in car 5. When atop you could hear 3 and 4 click away and fall. You could feel the release and the you go dowwwwnnn. Cool.

Ninja- classic. Rough yes but loved the immelman. That chain headchopper made everyone duck. Best part.

Scobby- interesting dark ride. CP and sfgam need one. I got the high score haha...33250! The fact it was in a boat the whole ride was odd but neat. Some things made me jump haha.

Xcaliber- just big and odd too. Fun but short. its like a combo between an enterprise and a choas.

Mine train- fun family coaster. I did like it a lil better than CPs mine train. The ending gets you all hyped up just to throw you in brakes....hmm.

Screamin' Eagle- another good woodie. Longer than I thought it would be. Kinda rough but roughly fun.

The park is small but def. Worth visiting. I will return but in a warmer time. it was very nice to have a park around to be open so late. So I do thank them for giving me a chance to treat myself for an end of the year trip after hard work at CP.

I went closing weekend and would like to add my report/thoughts. I just feel I should post it here and not make a new thread.

We left Libertyville at 4:30 AM Saturday and drove straight there. We got to the park 5 minutes before opening and heading to Evel Kneivel The ride is great and ultra smooth. We got a re-ride on it before we headed to other parts of the park.

Some thoughts on ride:
- The Log Flume was running. Yes, nothing like ridding it in the low 40's. However, it might be the smallest one I've ever ridden and got almost no water on me.
- Boss was not that bad at all. It was rough but been on worse. Only down part was it took the ride-ops 45 minutes to clean some vomit off a seat. Every coaster was only running one train so it was a pain. I did get to meet Paul from Negative G website in line and helped the time go by.
- Screamin' Eagle was a great ride and still amazing. There is something special about just seeing a straight track out of the station and then the lift hill.
- Superman ToP was quite fun. Was weird in that I was waiting for it to be like the Giant Drop where all the cars drop at once. Still quite fun.
- Ninja is well, the Ninja. It is rough and older, but a good way to waste 10 minutes.
- Mr. Freeze was running great. The new paint job is great and will look amazing once finished.
- River King was awful, just as it was as a child. There is something about 4 lift hills in one ride that small that makes me mad.
- I enjoyed the Highland Fling there and it seemed to be running better then the Orbit.
- You could see the Tidal Wave car just sitting in a field behind the Screamin' Eagle. Was quite sad and can't see the ride running again.
- Was nice that the park only had a few rides where you had to use a locker.

On Sunday, it was beyond cold. Tony Hawk and Boss were down all day. They ran the Log Flume for a while but was down by 2. Ninja was running all day but closed to the public.

On the merchandise, I actually like the stuff there. I was impressed to see something for all the coasters minus River King. Also seeing Pressed Pennies was a nice touch. Plus the 2008 souvenir bottles were only 1.99.

Final thing for me was being able to go on the last ride of the year for EK. We had planned to all day but the announcement over the PA about the 4 closing happened as we were at Screamin' Eagle. We made it just in time and got that back row as well. Just something special for me.

On a side note to anyone going DON'T STAY AT THE DAYS INN IN EUREKA. The place had rude employees and is a dump. During breakfast, the food manger garbed a kid by the arm and took his food because he was putting his syrup on too slow. Bastard tried to grab mine and was telling me to hurry up with no one in line. Was just odd and mean.

Overall, it is a nice park. It is not somewhere I would go often considering how close Great America is. It seems like a place I'd go once every new coaster or 5 years, which ever is first.

Maybe if you read the TR, you would know the answer?
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

Why on earth did they have the logs running? I thought it was common sense to have all water rides closed in the end of the operating season. When was the last time great America had a water ride open in November?

Beats me, but they had 3 employees running it. 2 in the station and one at the top. The sign near Tidal Wave said the flume would be open all fall.

Wish we could have Logger's or Clipper open at least one upcoming season if the temps stay above 50 degrees. Same goes for Rapids.

See, that's what confused me about the Great America flumes. I get why the Rapids were down (as was the St. Louis one), but the flumes confused me.

haha...really? We take our time. So many kids cry before that thing launches but yes, yes i was. My three main rides i worked a week were Wicked Twister, Millennium, & Mantis. Love all three of those crews. I asked to cross train alot which gave me the chances to work Twister, Millie, Mantis, Maverick, Irondragon & Topthrilll. Youre really only supposed to work one and stay there but i needed movement. haha

My group was freezing after about 2-3 hours. Very little of the park was indoors with no shows period. Was nice to have no crowds, but 7 hours outside in 40 degree weather was a bit much.

Water rides are supposedly meant for people to get wet when it's hot outside. Why run Logger's or Yankee when hardly anyone is going to go on it? If those 2 rides were open, than they would close 6 flats, or 2 roller coasters. They want to cut their ride staff for Halloween because it's colder outside, and because they are hiring so many scare people.
