SFOT 12/28 - 12/31 (PTR)

Let us know how your day at the park was.
Postby bobbinbop20 on January 2nd, 2009, 2:50 pm
since the plane tickets cost to much to go to L.A. the cheaper alternative is driving 14 hours to SFOT! the only bummer was since it was holiday in the park Mr. Freeze and Batman wouldnt be open.. but oh well. overall i think its a really nice park with a nice selection of coasters though they lack in the area of flats. all of the ops were VERY quick at their jobs and they were all friendly.

12/28 DAY 1:

I originally planned to not go to the park today but we got there a little earlier then planned as we arrived at about 7:45pm and in the park by 8:15pm. We only stayed for an hour and the only thing we did was Titan. 4 times actually. Titan was a real winner it has TONS of force and going 85 mph into a tunnel hits you like a brick wall! everyone was saying one side of the train was scarier then the other i guess because you come to a compleate stop after the MCBR and your tilted to the left making it seem as if you would fall out. One thing i did notice about this ride was that the restraints were really messed up it seemed that everytime i went on my restraint would go down to a differnt place, some seats the restraints were really tight and some seats they were very loose, but the whole second half of the ride your pinned to your seat anyway.

Titan:4

12/29 DAY 2:

Today the park was open from 12 to 10 and you bet we were there at 11:40 i was excited because it was my first time being at a park when they drop the rope. so once they dropped the rope we headed for titan but somehow ended up nowhere near it i had no idea where we were and we had to ask someone to point us in the right direction.. once we finally got there we took a front row seat on it. after that we decided to try out shockwave, which was way better then i expected! i guess is was the first coaster to have 2 consecutive loop and there was TONS of airtime like extream amounts only if you sit in the back of the train though the front is boring. the one thing about it is that it has a limited amount of supports which is kinda scary to watch because when the train flies by the entire thing would just sway back and forth, its kinda nerve racking but its such a great ride. i think the thing that makes it is it only has a lapbar which makes the airtime so much better if there wasnt a seatbelt i might have flew out

after that we went on the S&S superman Tower of power which was your average S&S tower. and later headed over to Tony hawks big spin. I was very excited to ride this because i think it looks really cool, and i thought it was really cool ride experience, it has a few pops of airtime and was very smooth.

another ride we went on was Runaway Mountain which is a indoor coaster but unlike TDK its compleatly pitch black inside, the themeing in the line was very very cool, and the ride was also awesome because there was no sence of direction.

Since the texas giant was closed the only woodie was judge roy scream which i really didnt enjoy at all it looked like it would be really fun but it was just overly bumpy and uncomfortable, now i like AE's bumpyness but this was just over the top.

last but not least was La Vibora which was a bobsled coaster, this was my first one so i enjoyed it although it can be a little rough but overall its a pretty decent ride.

so this day the crowds were'nt very bad at all, of mabey it was just all of thoughs single rider lines

12/30 DAY 3:

The day started off good when we finally got down the route to Titan and got a ride in the front row with no one else on the train! it was really cool!! when we got back to the station people were clapping for us haha after that we went 3 more times while crowds were still minimal and then BOOM people started flowing in left and right and it was getting hot out. the rest of the day was like waits waits waits and then we pretty much camped out on shockwave at the end of the day. I also rode the Mine Train which was awful!

Titan-4
Shockwave-20
Tony Hawk-4
Superman Tower of Power-1
Runaway Mt-2

12/31 Day 4:
New Years Eve was the best day, there was hardley anyone there and we stayed at titan most of the day. at midnight we were going up the lift on titan and they had firworks in the parking lot right next to titan while we were riding so it was awesome and we were the last riders of 2008 and the first riders of 2009 on titan!!!

Fiesta Texas' Batman clone is called Goliath. There are 3 BTR clones in the state of Texas, the other one is at Sea World.

There seem to be one in every major park in the chain and other versions at other parks. Vekoma made some nice designs to their Batman.

I love that caption, Shockwave doesn't believe in supports.

The park actually takes extremely good care of Shockwave. Just last year or the year before they took a good portion of the coaster down so they could replace some footers, they also did alot of work on the track and supports as long as it was on the ground.

Also Anton Schwarzkopf did in fact not believe in supports. He preferred a minimalist design due to the fact that a majority of his coasters were portable. Shockwave was the first coaster of his to use that track design which is a lot stronger than the other designs he's used resulting in lesser need for supports. Also you can see that basically every support on the entire ride connects to the track with a ball joint like you see in a few places on Iron Wolf, it allows the track to be able to move/swivel independent of the supports which reduces maintenance .

It looks like it is taken care of by a mechanical standpoint, but just not from a cosmetic standpoint. is really needs some paint.

also you cant really see it in the picturs but there are numerous cables connected to the track, giving it more support

I really doubt you would like Texas Giant. If you think American Eagle is rough, Texas Giant is like 100 times rougher than that, and Judge Roy Scream also is much tamer.

To me, Runaway Mountain is like the same layout as The Mummy at Universal, but it doesn't have LIM's, and it's continous track. It's also a different seating arrangement. The Mummy also has a dark ride element while this ride doesn't.
