I dont know if this is going to "hold true" this year, but DejaVu typically goes down for rehab sometime in January/Febraury.

Yup it is usually down most of winter. The best time to catch Deja Vu running is spring/summer.

Plan to wait forever and a day for food.

Ride Goliath @ night

Expect to wait and wait and wait for X2

Go up the Sky Tower when you get a chance. It usually closes early and goes down frequently for high wind

Really? I must've gotten lucky last January. Expect one train on every coaster, expect one side of STE and Colossus. Riddler's and Tatsu are awesome...

Why do they still keep Vu? With all the downtime, yearly rehabs, etc. why wouldn't you get rid of a ride that for Magic Mountain does nothing and with the amount of their coasters nobody would notice. This is not just me being jealous over losing our beloved GIB (2001-2007:() but how ridiculous is it for them to keep throwing money into it every year and have it closed for so long anyways? Don't the general public get upset over a ride being down so often and long? Man, this is dumb.

It closes because they have to do annual inspections to the train and it only has one train. They have to throw the same money into every ride every year. For rides that have 2 trains they run 1 for periods of the season while the others are being inspected, rides like Ridder/X2 have 3 trains but dont run more than 2. STE switches sides when one side goes down for rehab. At Knotts most of the rides just run 1 train for most of the winter (and a good portion of the summer =p)

It is pointless then with only one train to have it down for so long. This isn't a few days kind of "rehab". If I ever go to MM it will only be in the summer. They do have the best rides but man their running of Vu isn't remotely better than ours was.

It runs far better, hence why its still there and the other 2 arent. The reason its closed longer than it needs to be is because they dont have the quantity of maintenence staff to get it all done really quickley, they have a lot of other stuff to do at the same time.

I'd like to think that Six Flags could just scrap the ride from SFOG and then transfer the train to MM and they'd have 2 different trains...there would still need to be refurbishment but it would probably seem like less of a downtime if they did it that way.

Regardless of how many trains a ride has though, structural work and what not still has to take place every so often. So the ride will still have to close a brief period of time. That's just the thing with year-round parks. You know to go when the crowds are minimal, but the trade-off cost is knowing that some of the major attractions will be closed for rehab. Disney and Universal are the same way.

How would they put the other train on? Carry it?

I got pretty lucky when I went there. I planned on doing the park two separate days just in case they did the thing where they switch sides of racing coasters each day. It worked for Superman, but not for colossus. Superman had a 25 min wait at night (left side). It had an hour wait the second day I went (right side). It's a really fun ride though and I'd wait it out even if it's a long line.

Ride Dejavu whenever it's running. You don't want to risk it closing down. The line moved really slow when I was there and they had the single rider line closed. Check the single rider line if you're riding during the day.

X was being redone when I was there so I didn't get to ride it. Tatsu had a huge line, because that was the most recent attraction at that time. I think we waited about 45 minutes after closing. For some reason Riddler's Revenge had a huge line during the day. We waited 45 minutes for it. It really sucked, because when we got off we realized that they had a single rider line. Goliath had one train when I was there so we waited about an hour or more.

It's a really fun park though. I'd say plan two full days there even if you're not into the whole 'credit' thing. You'll like the coasters a lot and you'll want to reride the good ones a lot. Have fun.

No problem. Are you doing any other parks besides SFMM? There are a bunch of good ones out there. If you're thinking of adding another park consider disneyland/ Disney's CA Adventure. I really had a lot of fun there. If you're going with family it's really good because there's fun stuff for everyone, plus you can stay there until 1am usually. It's a little bit pricey though, so if that's a factor in your trip it might not be the best idea. It's about $90 for a one day park hopper.

Do schools still have field trips to Six Flags? I had the option of going in 2004 but it was the end of the year and wanted to go without all those annoying kids. I don't know if schools can still afford it...

I think the reason why it's still there is because they have other rides that are mechanical nightmares, or just junk, they are worried about the record about having the most coasters, and it's like hidden away.

Superman I would consider a low capacity ride, and I would think it's a mechanical nightmare type of ride. X^2 or X before was always a mechanical nightmare. Collossus hasn't been painted in awhile the last time I was there which was like 4 years ago. I think it's an awesome ride, but maybe others don't agree. Psyclone was junk as what people have said, and it was torn down. They also had some old flats that they wanted gone, and they were torn down (Intamin Generation Drop Tower 1, Tilt-A-Whirl, Baveryn Kurve, Rotor).

Not only that, but do you remember the destruction of Flashback? I haven't been on Revolution, but what I heard about it is that it's a rough ride. I know that Viper (Shockwave) isn't that great of a ride, and they took Shockwave out by us for a reason. So, I don't think Deja Vu is a high priority to get rid of it over there just yet. They have taken out their Shoot the Chutes ride yet like they did at SFGAm, and I think they are going to do at SFStL. I also think that park has more space than we do. They took out one transportation thing too, or just left it there. So, that needs to be removed. It was like a monorail.
