Hard Rock Park in Chapter 7, possible buyer found

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.
Postby DejaVu2001 on September 24th, 2008, 8:45 pm
Hard Rock Park filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and has closed for the season.
http://www.hardrockpark.com/closinginformation.cfm

So far, the park is saying they plan to reopen in spring of 2009, but that could always change.

I guess I won't be getting those credits in November :(

EDIT: Hard Rock Park has filed Chapter 7.

EDIT 2: Hard Rock Park has found a buyer. FPI MB Entertainment wants to purchase the park for $25 million. They want to have the park reopened by Memorial Day of this year.

Wow I was really looking forward to that November trip, rock music + theme park = score. Most devistating thing about this though is definitley missing out on the acid-trip themed dark ride :( .

Another example of a bad market for a theme park, it didnt even take 1 season for this place to go bankrupt. $50 for a pretty small park with not a lot of attractions (though their Bohemian Rhapsody night show looked awesome) is pretty steep though.

Hard Rock Park has some AWFUL MANAGEMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!(any SF people invoLved?? lol)

No properly run company will build a theme park with having enough capital on hand to weather the possibilty pf the park not meeting its expectations. This park was run as crappy as alot of the groups in the rock n roll halll of fame.

Now can some good come out of this and can SFGAM get the B & M from the park moved here for next season??

Here is a link to a article about the closing of the park.
http://www.myrtlebeachonline.com/news/l ... 07115.html

And a quote from the park spokesman "Olecki said the park, which opened in April, never had enough money for promotion to begin with"

Dont open the park if you cant do the promo, as any new company needs to spend alot of money up front to make them well known to the public.

Myrtle Beach has had a few amusement parks and a water park in the past that are poorly attended, because that's not the draw. It's a beach town first, a golf town second. That's why people go. One of Myrtle Beach's classic parks right on the beach shut down a few years ago because of poor attendance.

Management may be the major fault here, but Myrtle Beach as a market is not a good one for amusement parks.

Maybe, they should relocate to The Wisconsin Dells? That'll add some excitement up there and competition for Mount Olympus.

Such a sad thing to happen to a themepark it must be the location and the economy. I still think they should've built it in Kissimmee by that 400 acres land for sale on highway 192 next to Old Town at $50 per ticket and free concerts and a couple of good coaster they would have had a big advantage over the big theme parks at Orlando pricewise and for families and local residents looking for an affordable themepark to go. Hopefully they wont close the park down in the future.

I don't know much about hard rock parks, but I can see some more parks of that type opening across the nation. They really are a good idea.

^Ya, I think it is a good idea too, but in order to stay in business they are going to have to get better managment.

From what I saw from trip reports, people seemed to describe it as an RCT park.
Just a bunch of rides and such connected by paths in an open field.

I'd hate to see a park go under like this, but from what I've seen, I almost expected it.

I'm sad to hear this. I really liked the concept, and the articles I read about it sounded really cool. In this economy though, things aren't surviving well. I was hoping to go there eventually, but since it shall be out of the question next year, then I doubt it. :(

Hard Rock Park has now filed Chapter 7. For those unfamiliar with the different types of bankruptcy, Chapter 7 is liquidation, which means all assets will be sold. The park will never operate again.

Poor Nights in White Satin, it never stood a chance. Now comes the fun part of who buys 4 coasters and random flat rides. Can't help but think Cedar Fair would be the most likely to buy the B&M.

On a side note, I hope we don't loose any parks this year. It seems most of the regional ones are doing well last year. Sadly, I feel this discussion could happen this year with Kiddieland.

Actually this is good news for Six Flags and Cedar Fair. Practically brand new rides sold at absolute auction. both SF and Cedar Fair could pick up some rides dirt cheap.

Six Flags and Cedar Fair should be doing decent during this recession, they are both well established businesses, while both are in relatively poor financial health Cedar Fair should make it no problem, and at worst Six Flags will probably end up filing for Chapter 11 which really doesn't affect much, except maybe some of their smaller less profitable properties. Hard Rock just screwed up from the beginning, having to little to do in the park, while charging to much to get in, and they did next to no advertising as they had no money for it. I think this is a result of a 50/50 issue of really bad planning and the poor economy that made it so they really couldn't get a loan to keep operating.

That sucks, it looked like the kind of park that would go far. I think they started off to quickly though. They tried to build a park that looked like it had been operating for a while, you know?

I think that B&M will go somewhere in Six Flags. It would really help out a park. And the little rides look cool as well.
