Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

I looked on the weather channel, and before 12 pm, the rain is at 60% chance. However at 12 pm, it goes to 30%. However, this is for Chicago. For Gurnee, it's some 50% early in the morning, and 30% the rest of the day, and than eventually 20% at night.

The thing with Great America is that if they don't get enough people early, they will close the park even if it's sunny by 2:30 pm.

If rain and very low attendance is in the forecast expect to see Cajun, Whizzer, all water rides, Raceway, JWR, one side of Eagle would most likely be closed. There is also a good chance of Chaos, BBNP, Iron Wolf, Revolution, River Rocker, and Ricochet being closed (and then you have rides like the train that are already down for the year.

Giant Drop wont close down in 15mph winds, though it will probably be running 3 cars. And as Ilovethevu said, if its stormy in the morning and no one is theres a good chance of the park closing early regardless of the weather in the afternoon.

One thing to remember is other than people who live in the area and a few enthusiasts, pretty much no one goes to SFGAm this time of year. The vast majority of people go during summer then wait to go again for FF.

Why risk $40 for admission and $25 parking wait till fright fest. It'll be opened till 9 or 10.

No, it's not just rain. It will most likely be tropical downpours all day long with a chance of tornadoes.

What are you hoping for? To hang out in an arcade all day at the park? Take your ass to a mall.

Let me get this straight. If only a few people come to the park and they decide to close it, they kick the few out?

Yeah, I will admit it, Chicago area is used to rain, but do you realize we are getting some of hurricane Ike's leftovers? Everyone I knew's basement was flooded, and all the streets were closed due to flooding. There were 2 foot deep "puddles" haha. But I think for weather conditions, closing was smart. Who would want to go on a rainy day anyway, where it rained non-stop, possible lightening, and all that crap. I was at the park, and it was just raining, and one sound of thunder, and the rides were closed for 1.5 hours. It would be stupid to open the park.

Tomorrow, 9/14.....The winds are going to be 45 MPH+

Remnants of IKE is going to nail us!!! Maybe not as bad at Gurnee since it's further north. (I live in Chicago BTW)

Goku, what are you talking about?

Any tropical storm, once reaching this far inland, will be severely weakened. In fact, the only wind advisory posted in an area currently under the remnants of Ike is at 40mph. Plus, it states "gradual weakening is expected as it moves inward." (National Weather Service)

By the time it reaches us, it'll be a rain shower and hardly anything more.

They closed SF st. Louis for tomorrow. It's suppose to rain here all morning, I'd imagine that sfgam will be closed tomorrow to, but who knows...

That's exactly what I said

Gurnee is further north than chicago, so it will be more weak!

I don't know how what you said (45 MPH+, is going to nail us) translates into "rain shower." Perhaps I mistook your sarcasm. However, Gurnee is not that far north of Chicago, relatively speaking. Overall, it won't be any weaker compared to what hits Chicago. That's like saying Gurnee should be a few degrees colder in winter because it's farther north than the Loop.

(And if you're being sarcastic about that, sorry. I'm downin' a bottle of wine.)

Alright guys lets just end this right now. There is a frontal boundary that is running through southern illinois, middle of indiana and through the detroit area. This is going to blast the leftovers of Ike up the United States and into Canada by Monday.

The brunt of the rain will hit far South of here, but we will get some heavier rain tomorrow but it will end by the afternoon its looking like.

Also for clarification, the chances of a tropical system lasting EVEN as a storm are slim inland. As of right now it is considered a Depression with top winds at 35 mph. No matter what, it is now no different then a low pressure system spinning through the US that produces a lot of rain.

Wind will be no issue AT ALL. The center of the low pressure (formerly Hurricane Ike) will pass way way way south of here, closer to Springfield and those rural southern Illinois areas. Even there, winds up to 20mph-30mph would be the worst they would see. No different then a regular day. Just lots of rain.

I can see the park closing considering it will be raining pretty good through the morning and early afternoon though!

^You know what, in the end, it doesn't matter about Ike.

Ike has formed with the other rain bands that have put Chicago in a serious situation that is only going to add the problem.

Record breaking rain is happening in the area. I am sick and tired of whiney complain complaining that a park isn't going to open when a serious weather problem is happening in the area.

If people were paying one day admission to get in, chances are, they aren't going to the park this weekend because of the mass rain and flooding.

If you are a season pass holder, call ahead, or just use common sense that the area is saturated and not go. Would you except Busch Gardens to open in Tampa if a hurricane even brushed the area?

If you don't like SFGAm and it's policies, DON'T GO ANYMORE!!!!!!! Sick of this crap. Tired of you whiney babies. Also tired of you whiney babies that aren't getting your next thrill seeking coaster.

The park will survive without you. When it turns around and they start making a profit, don't show up when they do finally put a high thrill ride in.

They changed todays forcast. Its not "Few showers" anymore. Now it is heavy rain all morning, and rain with wind all afternoon. Additional 1 to 2 inches of rain expected today. I'm still going to head up there today though, because this is probably the last chance I'll have until next year. But I'm not expecting to get on anything.

I for one will not blame SF for closing down on Sat. if it was noted ahead of time on both their web site and telephone line when you called in for park hours.

I do think they should have had someone posted at the front gate telling visitors that the park was closed down due to weather and gave them a free pass for another visit as a token for the guest coming to the park, that is a customer friendly thing to do.

I just checked the SFGAM web site and no mention is made of the park being closed and it lists the park hours as being 10:00am-7:00pm and if the phone line states the park is open, it should be open as they have had more than enough time to update both the phone/web site.

If you live close to the park drive there and see if it is open. If you live farther away don't go, you might end up finding out that the park is closed and then you have to drive all of the way back home.

I attempted to go to the park yesterday, and obviously it was closed. It was part of a church trip, so we had bought group tickets. After driving 3 hours to get there, you wouldn't believe the silence in all of the vehicles when we drove by and the sign said: "Park closed, please come another day." I was pretty disappointed, but I wasn't that angry, as I have a season pass, and wasn't losing any money. So at first thought, I figured that the church was screwed out of a lot of money, as there are no rain checks, refunds, etc. So, after pulling off of the Tri-State Tollway, and parking at the Burger King across from the main entrance, one of the church officials called Six Flags, and to my surprise, got a full refund. So, as an alternate plan, we went to Dave & Busters in Addison, then to the outlet mall in Aurora. We ended up having a great day anyway, but I still would have loved a day at GAm. At first, I was pretty shocked that they would close the park, as I had been there on numerous rainy days. But eventually I realized how bad it was actually raining, when I heard news of all of the flooding. Now my church group is re-scheduling for opening day 2009. At least there's still Fright Fest...

The park closed at 2:30 today due to weather. Wasn't much to do today anyway, the only coaster open was The Dark Knight Coaster. I was really suprised they stayed open as long as they did.
