Inverted Wooden Coaster

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.

A no-name company thought it would be a good idea to design an inverted wooden roller coaster. I sort of wonder if this is a joke... Here's the link.

That is Pretty cool but I don't think well be seeing that for a while. I bet it would give some great effects like the foot chopper.

Has Gordon Rides even made any rides? Because it's a woodie I could imagine some interesting inverted airtime. What if they made a woodie with 4 seats across or one with a LIM launch? Seriuosly, is this a joke? But think of how cool it would be if it wasn't!

Why does it have to be a joke? Not that anyone has said it, but it would not be fair for someone to also say that this is fake or this is impossible. It is something new, and yes it does not fit the stereo type of most rides, but that is because no company wanted to waste there time and money to TEST something like this. I think its possible and you know this ride would never be able to be bought and build without it being looked at by scientists and all those people to make sure such a ride could work, or how long a train would of that type would last, and the over all maintanence that would be required.

In looking at the company brochure

http://www.gordonrides.com/GordonRides% ... ochure.pdf

there is reference to a few US Patent's.

-- Inverted Wooden Coaster U.S. Patent No. 7,131,382

-- Force Isolated Passenger Coaster U.S. Patent No. 6,487,975

The links for the above are here

http://www.freepatentsonline.com/7131382.html

http://www.freepatentsonline.com/6487975.html

So, the U.S. Patent's are real. I'm thinking this may be the real deal.

However, just because you get a patent, it may be years before the object is built.

So, we'll see where this goes.

All prototype coasters were thought of as jokes before they would be built, remember BTR anyone????

It seems a little odd, but that's only because it's never been done before. I think it would be a cool idea, and I hope this company or some other company down the line does to this. If it's well built, there is no reason to believe it wouldn't work or fall apart. Seems like he needs some more experience at this first. I'm not sure on his history, but I personally would have tried to get a job with a known manufacturer and then pitched this idea. Since he's a no name, no one knows what his work is like, and no park wants to risk the money associated with this kind of project on something that could be a poorly assembled POS.

GordonRides is a real company. I established the company in 2006 to license ride ideas and concepts to ride manufacturing firms, but I'm changing the focus of the company to be a general contractor for ride design, engineering, and construction.

Currently, none of the GordonRides designs have been built yet, but that is normal for a startup company in the first few years. At the IAAPA 2009 trade show (next November) I'm hoping to open a booth and introduce my new products to the industry buyers (the parks). Current ride designs that are in development are the Inverted Wooden Coaster and the Warring Coaster.

Inverted woodie is a terrible idea. I do like the track construction technique though, but to bank that track you will need a very expensive and funky looking support structure. It's not feasible in the least. Also a coaster with no view seems utterly pointless, unless maybe it was adapted as a inverted dark ride or something. It's a bad idea all around.

^Even IF it could have loops are anything, it would be way to unstable and intense.....

Plus, it cost a lot more to make, including the waste of trees!

Good point there.....What Elements?

Really good question.

Looking at the trains that only have lapbars, I would guess that there would be lots of airtime, no loops. How far spaced would the rows have to be so that when they go over (or should I say under) a hill they won't accordian up and hit each other?

you really cant have airtime on that. Just like the B&M inverts. If you go over a straight hill with inverted trains the cars scrunch together which would result in mangled legs. So you really cant even have any good airtime via straight hills.

From the layout on the website it looks like it would be mostly turns, which i still think are really fun!

Hello everyone,

I can't get into specifics about why I believe my Inverted Wooden Coaster will succeed even though my company is brand new. Many of your questions related to this issue will be answered in the next few months, so please be patient.

In the meantime, I have posted a thread in the forums at http://www.coasters2k.com that details some of the specifics of the Inverted Wooden Coaster and how it will work. Please take a look over there for answers to many of your questions about how the structure will work and other topics. Please also note that the images you see on my website are first-round concept images. The current work is confidential, and I can't show that right now.

The response of the coaster enthusiast world has been decently strong in saying that they will ride the Inverted Wooden Coaster if it is built, and built well. This is part of my market research to determine whether or not to go ahead with the full engineering of a layout for actual production.

If you have any additional questions for me please post at coasters2k so I can respond to you directly, or send me an email (check my website for my email address).

Best,
Jonathan Gordon
