Holiday World 2009

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.

^Yea, but what i'm thinking is that there's only a lapbar that goes over your head, no shoulder restraints.

I'm not very sure either. What people are complaining about is that it will have over the shoulder restraints like on Demon, but if it is just has a lapbar that comes over your head I would think that there wouldn't be anything to complain about.

traincrossing9 wrote:^It says overhead lapbars in the facts. Is that different than an OTSR? Taking a second look at the animations it seems like the lapbar would come over your head because you can see the restraint attatched on the back of the seat but no restraints are going over the shoulders. Am I just seeing things?

its just a crappy animation...

animations like this usually have a lot of differences than the actual finished ride

^Very true. It is kind of interesting the way they worded the name of the restraint. Maybe it will be similar to Kingda Ka where the brunt of the restraint is a lap bar, but there are thin shoulder straps as added protection. Who knows, we'll have to see when it opens or when someone here in the know informs us! 8)

^I hope it is not like the restraints on kingda Ka, I don't like them.

according to the blueprint that HW used to have posted of the cars, it will use the same restraint as Kingda Ka.

it used to be at
http://www.holidayworld.com/pp_schematic.html

maybe it's down temporarily

I already see a ton of problems that will happen with this ride. I shall list them below.

Capacity/Line Waiting Problems:
Only 10 riders per boat
OTSRs (SFGAm flumes had nothing, the ones at IOA had a lap bar that was good, and had a far steeper drop)

Technical Problems:
Of course the elevator won't work sometimes
The cost to operate this ride will take a lot of money from the park

Big Fatal Disasters:
The two elevator towers meet at the wrong time, and crush everyone in the boat
The whole ride just tips over (doesn't look like enough supports)

Stuff that they could have made better:
Maybe a steeper drop? Then the OTSRs would have been a little more necessary.

Overall, it looks pretty fun, but if I want a big drop, I will go on a roller coaster, and not a water ride.

^Ya, I think it needs a steeper drop too. I also think that the elevator lift is a cool idea but I think it will have mechanical issues.

The two elevators meeting at the wrong time is probably impossible there will probably be sensors or something that will tell the elevators where the opposite is at and will probably stop if the other elevator has not cleared a sensor on a certain part of the lift

the whole ride tipping over?

once again, this is just an animation and I guarantee you that there will be a whole lot of differences between the animation and the actual ride.

and a steeper drop to make the OTSR's necessary???

dude, the boat will be going 50+ mph when it slams into a pool of water and without OTSR's the riders would go flying out of the boat

and to think that some people want the boats to have no restraints at all

It wont be possible for the elevators to collide, I'm sure they will be mechanically linked via wire ropes. One will counterweight the other, so the one going down will help pull the other one up, makes for far smaller and simpler lift system. Safer also.

Agree with everything else though.

The elevators colliding are the least of our worries.

I think not having seat belts on it would be funny as a Roller Coaster Tycoon Crash video!

Assuming for a moment that this ride is reliable and works swimmingly its first year, do you guys think other parks will add this style?! It seems like many are actually getting rid of their flume rides lately.

^I think they might start building rides using this system, because it is new and some parks want the new types of rides.

Maybe the elevator thing was a little far out, but the OTSRs thing is true. Milennium Force, lap bars, Raging Bull, lap bars. It's going down at like a 45 degree angle, and a full lapbar like the king that molds into your legs and is safe would have been fine.
