Another Ride Accident

Apparently a swinging rainbow ride (similar to trailblazer) collapsed in Sweden injuring 18 people, 2 of them seriously injured.

This seems like quite a few accidents recently and its getting pretty ridiculous. This is killing the image of theme parks because in all reality they are very safe places. The only good thing to come of this is that nobody died.

I have to believe that because the ride collapsed it must have not been checked very well for safety issues.

The Liseberg manager on duty, Peter Andersson, said it appeared the accident was caused by a malfunctioning ball bearing.

Andersson said the attraction had been through a security checkup in the spring and no faults were found.

Well, apparently they checked it, but that was in spring. You can't just check a ride once in the beginning of the season and not check it again for a while. It's about mid-summer now! Some things can happen between then and now. This makes me feel a little uneasy.

edit: Look at http://www.rideaccidents.com . It has pictures of the collapse (scary!) and says it was between 20-30 people who were injured.
