Opening Day PTR

Let us know how your day at the park was.
Postby [jonrev] on April 27th, 2008, 4:31 pm
Well after 6 months of coaster withdrawal I finally woke up at around 545 in the morning, cleaned off the Fiero, and headed towards Gurnee.

Watching TV and waiting at the gate around 7:30:
Image

Parking was completely disorganized today. Not only did they REALLY push regular parking (by having 2 people walk to the line of cars outside the gate and push regular parking on the people), but when I pulled up to the toll booth she immediately requested $25.00. Then when I mentioned I wanted value parking she acted all WTF? It took a supervisor to come out and remind her about Value parking.

Yay!

Carousel Gifts sporting new doors and such, more on that later:

How to make a thousand ACErs cry:

Then there's this guy:

They had the chain set up in Hometown Square near Amazing Alfredo, which makes it convenient to get to pass processing before the drop. But now you can't stampede to Southwest territory, you have to stay behind a bunch of rides supervisors and if you attempt to run around them security yells at you.

First coaster of 2008 ended up being Viper:

Viper sportin' awesome new decals:

Whee!!!

This would be an amazing pic if a train were coming down the first drop:

"HAY SIX FLAGS! You didn't forget about me, did you?"

Sad.

See ya in Idaho...

That game they put up in the former queue house, it's more annoying than the one at Cedar Point by Demon Drop:

Just not the same...

The rock sign is still there, lacking the signage though:

More deconstruction:

County Fair was completely deserted:

Camp Cartoon. I never really got why they called it Camp Cartoon Network when they never had any Cartoon Network-themed rides to begin with:
Image

Even in death DejaVu is still an amazing sight:
Image

Met up with some friends and decided to head toward Viper. Then saw this in the station:

Viper awesomeness:

I can never go a day at Great America without riding Demon:

Even better, the station was DEAD:

Triple Play is another "can't miss" ride:

I don't think this guy's having fun:

Spinners being photo-shy:

I'm loving the second line:

Carousel Gifts' new interior looks great:

Wind and towers don't work well together:

Since nobody showed up for the SFGAmZone Meet-up I went back and hung out with some other friends and left the park for lunch. We decided to take a "quick detour"

Got back to meet up with a SFGAm Zone member and noticed the arch sign gone:

Power Dive! (or Power Drive if you go by the pennant)

We watched them put a Superman train on the track from the storage shed, and I shot a quick video of how they move the trains which I'll post soon.

No moar Superman on-ride photos?

Condor doesn't get along well with the wind either:

As soon as trains started test-cycling a line formed stretching all the way to Dodge's entrance:

Then headed to Mack in the Box's older cousin for some fun:

Pretty good day, low crowds. The wind really hurt the park today with all the closures.

Great work on all the pics! How did you get some of the pics from behind the Superman/TDK fences?

Btw, I was there but couldn't find you at all. Oh well, maybe next time.
This is where I would usually put stuff. Can't think of anything right now... =/

Pointless information! In the pic with the guy wearing the Deja Vu shirt, you can see in front of all those people two people wearing bright red hoodies, yeah, that's me and my Jason. I saw you by the chain! And at Viper, and later on by TDK.

Anyhow... You should have seen the Demon station when there were people waiting for back row and a middle row, but NO ONE waiting for the front. It was sweet, we got right on the red train. Of course Demon wasn't very nice to me, but oh well...

Nice pics.

I've seen SUF trains come in and out of that shed quite a few times. Back when it first opened, they would either take a train off or put one back on every half hour. At least, that's what they did that the day I rode it for the first time. Not sure what the reasoning was, but whatever.

Nice TR Jon and great photos.

Yeah in 1998 when that are opened each of the ride themes was basically a staple of Cartoon network. Back when when Cartoon Network was good and not full of that Jap Bullshit.

Adult Swim is good though. Should retheme Camp Cartoon to Adult Swim, need a ride themed after Assy McGee :)

Every now and again they play the theme song to The Brak Show in there which was an AS show.
