Your Waterparks

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.

Every now and then people in trip reports often compare the rides at other parks to Great America. I though we should try something different and compare all the waterparks we have been to, to Great America's Hurricane Harbor. Remember no answer can be wrong, this is just people's opinion. I'll start.

2002 : Racing Rapids (D)
2003 : Valleyfair’s - Whitewater Country (D+)
2003 : Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom’s - Hurricane Bay (B)
2003 : Kings Island’s - Water Works (B-)
2004 : Six Flags St. Louis’s - Hurricane Harbor (B/B+)
2004 : Holiday World’s - Splashing Safari (B+)
2005 : Six Flags Great America’s - Hurricane Harbor (A)
2005 : Michigan’s Adventure’s - Wild Water Adventure (B)
2006 : Magic Waters (C)
0000 : Gurnee's Aquatic Center (D-/F)

From best to worst:

Blizzard Beach (Disney World) A+ NOTHING WRONG with this place and incredible theming!
Splashin Safari (Holiday World) A REALLY great slides and really large, only thing missing is a huge theme
Six Flags Hurricane Harbor (Great America) A- Decent theme and slides, just not overwhelming like the other two
Great Wolf Lodge (Wisconsin Dells) B+ Best of the indoor waterparks in my opinion, such an awesome selection!
Deep River Waterpark (Merriville) B+ Decent waterpark with some decent slides.
Centennial Park (Orland) B All hail our town pool...or at least the town next to me's pool lol
Raging Waters (Grafton) B Good park with some really wierd slides!
Grand Bear Lodge (Starved Rock) B- One REALLY awesome slide with a lot of special effects, but small otherwise
Joliet's Splash Station (Joliet) C Not a great selection of things to do, but there's a decent mat slide here
T & B Amusements (Between Ottawa and Morris) C- I only include this death trap of a now demolished park because it had two slides that were INCREDIBLE!!!! Insane airtime and many moments of leaving the slide....i miss it :)
RIP: Trailblazer and Deja Vu...heck, even Alien Encounter :(

Hi everyone.

I haven't been to all of those on the list, but I agree with and add:

Hurricane Harbor (Gurnee) A
Magic Waters C
Key Lime Cove D (Price versus value judgement here.)

I can't compare to Hurricane Harbor, as I've never visited it before. However, I will state the ones I've been to.

Magic Waters (Rockford, IL)- A good park overall. Nothing mind blowing but a good park nonetheless.

Wacky Waters (Davenport, IA)- This is now a defunct park and is currently a Coast Guard training center. All I have to say is good riddance to it. The park wasn't that great. It had a kiddie area, a wave pool, and one big slide along with maybe one or two smaller slides. They weren't very good either. The park was disgusting on top of that.

Mt. Olympus (Indoor Park)- I was impressed, as this was the first indoor park I'd ever gone to. I thought the slides were pretty decent, and it was neat that they had a lazy river. The hot tubs weren't bad either...

Big Surf (Lynn Creek, MO)- My favorite water park I've been to. They have a great half-pipe slide, bowl slide. Along with some other great water rides. Not to mention some good looking girls. 8)

I forgot to mention one:

Timber Ridge Lodge in Lake Geneva WI. It's part of the Geneva Grand Resort

Avoid this like the plague! This is as close as you could ever get to swimming in an outdoor port a potty at a Lynard Skynard revival catered by Chuckie Cheese.
The best thing about this place was seeing it in my rearview mirror as I was leaving. Just writing about it makes that "nursing home smell" come back to me.

I havent been to HH since the opening of Tornado. Every time I go to the park, even if the park is dead, the water park is always busy.

SFGAm Hurricane Harbor - A-
Deep River Water Park - A-
Indiana Beach's Water park - B-
White Water Canyon - D (Doesn't have much but still fun and very cheap to go to. In Tinley Park)

I believe that is all I have been to.

Blizzard Beach: A+
Noah's Ark: A+
Schlitterbahn (New Braunfels, Texas) A (Gotta love those tube chutes!)
(Geauga Lake's) Wildwater Kingdom: A
Mt Olympus Indoor: A
Mt Olypus Outdoor: A
Typhoon Lagoon: B+
Astroworlds old waterpark (forgot the name): B
(SFGAm's) Hurricane Harbor: C+

I think there are a couple others that I can't think of right now. After you've been to some classy waterparks, HH doesn't seem so amazing.

Magic Water in Cherryvalley, IL- My homepark because I'm only 6 minutes away from it. :D
Mt. Olympus indoor and outdoor- A pretty good water park but can get packed easily.
Kalahari Dells- An amazing water park! Has good waterslides indoor and outdoor!
Kalahari Sandusky- A cool waterpark with an amazing launching waterslide! I just missed the expansion however when I went.

I think that is it but there maybe more I've been to but don't remember.

Visiting HH this year though!

Raging Waters in San Dimas, CA blows all water parks away. Excellent!

SFGAm's HH - I'd give it a solid A-, great theming, good slides and a decent wave pool.
Aquatica - A, theming is great, food is great, lazy river is amazing, slides are fun, wave pool is okay and the sand is awesome.
Magic Waters - C+, Had some good slides, but that's about it.
Noah's Ark - B-, Most of their slides are old and not that fun, wave pools are good, lazy river is okay.
Mt. Olympus (both) - B-, the slides were good, water was cold, wave pool looked cool (too cold)
Wilderness - A-, great indoor waterpark, fun wave pool, slides were fun, good times.
Typhoon Lagoon - A-, Slides are sweet, theming is good and wave pool is probably the best out there.
Wild Water Adventures(?) (at MiA) - B+, Slides were a lot of fun, atmosphere was decent, but that is all we did as it was cold.
Kalahari Dells - B+, Slides were fun, wave pool was cool and nice basketball pools too
Key Lime Cove - C, Price is high, slides were decent, nice play structure.

One thing I forgot to mention about the Aquatic Center is don't visit it if you love Hurricane Harbor because The Aquatic Center has a few Slides And a Really Big Pool. I couldn't stay more than an hour without being bored.

in my opinion, Comparing Aquatic Center to Hurricane Harbor is like Comparing:

Disney World to Haunted Trails.

I havent been to many, but I dont care because Im not one for waterparks... (boring) I WANT THRILLS!!! lol

Schlitterbahn (New Braunfels, TX) A-, Its supposed to be one of the best, but once again, I dont really care for waterparks. I also thought it was kinda dirty...

Schlitterbahn (South Padre Island, TX) A+, It is amazing with the way everyslide kinda connects to the lazy river, and being on a real Island makes it even better.

Water Works (Denton, TX) B, Pretty descent park, its got some descent slides and a good lazy river...

Water World (Dothan, AL) B-, hardly any slides, but still Ok... I guess

Volente Beach (Lake Travis, TX) B+, Pretty descent park, makes it even better being on a hill and lake

SFFT Waterpark (San Antonio, TX) A+, Great Slides, and clean. All to be said.

I have yet to go to Hurrican Harbor at SFGAM, but once again (Lol), Im not one for water parks. BORING

Has anyone here been to a waterpark "lock-in"?

There is one at Magic Waters in Rockford, IL next Friday, the 11. However, it's a private event. I'll be going, and I'm pretty excited.

Great Wolf Lodge (Wisconsin Dells) B+ Best of the indoor waterparks in my opinion, such an awesome selection!

I'm glad that you like Great Wolf Lodge! I just currently started working there, and it is insane!!!!

Here's my list

Mt. Olympus indoor and outdoor- A this park really immerses (not sure on spelling) people into the experience with their extensive Greek theming, and it goes right into the waterparks. Beautiful

Noah's Ark-B The park is getting a little old, but they are adding new attractions every year in hopes to keep the title of "World's Largest" I saw an ad on t.v. at work today at Great Wolf Lodge, and it seems they are going to the guests to help them think up the next attraction, should be interesting. Oh, and it's called "Build your dream Water Ride" in case you were wondering.

SFGAm HH- B- I was given the whole Wisconsin Dells experience before I went to HH, so it really didnt live up to my standards. Sorry
