The Greatest GA Rider Ever

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby Galvan on September 22nd, 2003, 10:18 pm
Okay, Its been 30+ Years since Marriot built the Mecca we know today as Great America. In that time we've seen rides come and go some are still with us Today. But which ride Holds the Title for "GREATEST GREAT AMERICA RIDE IN HISTORY"?Some of the Youngings Here on this Forum may not be able to answer this question fully but thats okay. Still this Begs to be asked.Having Visited GA alot now that i can Drive. I can say the best Ride Ever is a Tie between Raging Bull and Shockwave.Raging Bull: Gives you the rush as you fly down the first drop and into that tunnel then back over the out and back... I love that Ride and my Ride Tracker backs that up.Shockwave: Power, thats the feeling when you rode SW, The back to back to back triple loops amazing. And the Ride was almost 3 minutes long. It included Raging Bulls speed, with Demon's loops and corkscrews.Never will Forget SW.What do you think? Post Here~Mike

I agree that RB and SW are the best.

The most successful ride at SFGAm is probably Batman The Ride. Its over 10 years old and still gets a line as if it was a brand new ride. Not to mention the ride it gives is still just as good as the day it opened.

Im sorry i disagree. Batman kicks ass but, its no Raging Bull or Shockwave. Batman has one major downfall, its too short. And if you sit towards the back, you get tossed around a little bit.

Batman most successfull?Meh!!! I would have to say for the longest staying power that still generates long lines, it would have to be Whizzer. It is 16 years older than Batman so it gets the title.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

So what if you get tossed around. Like you said its just a bit. I think front and back row on it are the best places to sit.

Most Successful yet they wanted to take it down? (realizes i just shot myself in the foot because i voted for Shockwave) But i disagree with that. Whizzer is great for Some, (I personally hate it) but i dont think it draws like RB or SW did or can. B:TR has drawing power because of its theme and because its a kickass ride. But nobody goes to GA just to ride Whizzer.

Wouldn't you fall in that category of being to young to answer this? Have you been alive since the park opened in 1976?

Nobody goes to SFGAm just to ride the Whizzer?Tell that to the families with small children.Whizzer generated long lines whereas Shockwave was constantly a walk-on. Maybe a a station full of people. Rarely did it have a line. Whizzer has staying power, Shockwave did not.

I don't get how you can say Shockwave is the most successful ride in Great America. People hated the ride when it was operating, I was one of the very few who loved the ride. When it got torn down though only then did everyones opinion change about Shockwave. If Whizzer got torn down instead of Shockwave last year, I guarentee more then half the people on the site would still be complaining they hate Shockwave and how it should be torn down. Thats what it was like before Shockwave, but now that its gone everyone loves it.Dave *Ive confused myself by typing that up, I hope it made sense*

Shockwave was long and thrilling. It was head banging because the people didnt know how to ride it properly. Shockwave put Demon to shame. Think about it 7 inversions on one trip. You couldnt get that anywhere else. Shockwave dominated GA. And it was the King of the Looping Coasters.

I always loved that ride since the first time I rode it. That was one of the most thrilling rides as GAm.

I cant see why long lines have anything to do with the ride staying put or not. Take American Eagle for example. Even on the Busiest Days(I know i have been there when its packed) The lines where very short and a 5 to 15 minute wait was all. VS 2 1/2HRS plus with RG or B:TR. So with that said. American Eagle is next to go? The Reason Shockwave was taken down was because people didnt know how to ride the ride correctly. But ask anyone who there favorite ride was in the Mid 90's And they will give you one of these three answers: Batman,Iron Wolf or Shockwave.

Not many people rode the ride for a while. If it doesnt get a certain amount of riders for a while then the park decides to retheme or take down the ride. Most of the GP doesnt like getting knocked around on coasters. So word was spread that it was really rough so no one wanted to ride it. GP doesnt go to parks often enough to learn how to ride the rides.

Any ride that you need to "know how to ride" in order to not smack your head. Is not a successful ride.I did know how to ride Shockwave which is one of the reason's I was the few that liked Shockwave. Few people "knew how to ride" so few people liked the ride.

I get knocked around on Demon, and its been there since 1976, So your now telling me Demon is next to go? I just dont get how you cant see that Shockwave isnt one of the best. I give Credit to B:TR and some to Whizzer. But Come on 7 inversions you cant get that anywhere else around here.

How could you get knocked around on Demon but not on Shockwave? If you knew how to ride Shockwave, you should know how to ride Demon as well.

Dave, its like paying attention to The Stewardess on and Airplane when you have to fasten your seat belt people always ignore her yeah yeah, seat belt i know what your talking about. Same with Roller Coasters You follow the signs that are posted on the ride. Easy as pie. People where thinking that Shockwave was like Demon and therefore where expecting the same ride. It wasnt and therefore they got tossed around.
