from screamscape.com New Theme Parks and Resorts - (3/4/2008) Six Flags has announced a deal with Tatweer (a member of Dubai Holding) to build new Six Flags Theme Parks in the Arab world, starting with Six Flags DUBAILAND. Groundbreaking is set for 2009 and the park is expected to feature attractions themed to The Wiggles, Tony Hawk and original shows and concepts. The deal will also seek to open other new Six Flags branded concepts across the region such as Six Flags branded hotels, restaurants, retail outlets as well as other theme and water parks. Tatweer’s other Dubai projects in development include Tiger Woods Dubai, Universal Studios Dubailand, the Dreamworks Animation park, the Hit Entertainment park and the Global Village project. It’s interesting to note that the press release keeps calling Six Flags Dubailand “the first Six Flags theme park outside of North America,” since they have apparently forgotten all about the previous managements wild but short run in Europe with parks like Six Flags Belgium and Six Flags Holland. And before everyone gets upset about Six Flags debt levels, keep in mind that Six Flags is likely not paying for any of these parks and instead will likely be paid very well for the rights to use the Six Flags brand names as well as their services in the creation of these new attractions. This can deal can only help Six Flags pay off their debts.

For the love of god, make this international Six Flags stuff stop!
SFOG the next to go? Since when? SFOG is one of the best parks in the chain, Why in the hell would they get rid of it?
I'd like to dedicate this topic to Galvan! And for that matter, anyone else in the "Next to Go" topic who roasted me and Coasterboy!
I think it's a great idea since everyone is hoping on the Dubai bandwagon these days...let's hope this whole thing doesn't further the debt, and lets hope that Six Flags still puts the same effort into the North American parks!
RIP: Trailblazer and Deja Vu...heck, even Alien Encounter

If it is, then Chitown did a great job, cause i have done WAYYY to many silly photoshop projects like this and that handshake would be hard to do this good....anyways, it'll be interesting to see how this develops without Loony Tunes or DC characters.

What would really piss me off, would be if they put like a 350 ft Intamin Giga coaster, with monster airtime, great speed, and awesome scenery in this new park.
I just dont want to go to the middle east!!! I know the Emirates are very civilized unlike other parts of the Middle East, but getting over there would seem to be a hassle...
I don't think they'll see a giga at any point in the foreseeable future. Usually a good strategy is to look at what your competition has and one up them. There really isn't that much competition in the Middle East. I bet most people there would be thrilled with an SLC and a Boomerang or even some sort of smaller wooden coaster, hell a wild mouse would thrill the crowds most likely.

there are quite a few malls and FEC's especially around Saudi Arabia that have some coasters, some are quite sizable, at least in the same way that Ripsaw at MOA is sizable.
In Dubai though it's really going to depend what Busch does and any other parks being built, but I dont think anyone is really going to smash any records out there.

dubai doesnt have any good amusement parks so everyone would flee to come here! if this gets them out of dept, that is fine by me, i want a new coaster at our six flags soon. The dark knight wasnt worth it!
^ six flags isn't the only park going in. there will be Universal studios, Dreamworks theme park, legoland, busch, and im pretty sure aquatica, and there will be a million other attractions so dont count on everyone going to SFD
