Raging Bull video for download via BitTorrent

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby T_Biggs on September 13th, 2003, 10:10 pm
We have the Raging Bull video up... In a way. We are using BitTorrent. Some of you may be familiar with it, most of you, probably not. It is a form of file sharing. To download the video, follow this simple 4 step process.1. Download BitTorrent from one of these mirrors. It is a small 2.6MB file, so even those on Dial Up should be able to get it quickly.2. Click on the downloaded file to install it.3. Click here and choose open. A window will automatically open that starts downloading the file for you, after you choose a place to save it.4. Watch the movie! :) Leave the Torrent open as long as you can, so you can upload the file to other people who want to download it. It is imperative that you leave it open after you finish download it so other people have an easier time getting the video. Just as on other file sharing communities like Kazaa or Morpheus, sharing the file after you download it helps the entire community. If you have questions, ask them here. Let me know which step you are on when the problem arises. If this method of video distribution works well, I will make a step by step, with screen shots, page of how to download with BitTorrent.Issues discovered since this was written:Downloads can take a few minutes to start downloading. Let the window sit open for 5 to 10 minutes. If nothing happens, then post here. However, in most cases there should be very little or no wait at all.

Dave and I are both seeding it, so be patient. If you're having problems tonight, you'll have to wait for help, because Dave is more or less clueless, and I'm going to bed. So, if you come across any problem, please post it, but I won't be around to answer untill sometime tommorow.

Yeah, it worked though so its all good. I accidently closed my window though . I thought that if I clicked finished it would play, but that just closed the window :o. Anyways, I thought that the video was very good I didn't really mind the fact that it was sunny one part and cloudy the next.

My computer must have crashed and restarted at some point last night. I therefore wasn't seeding for an unknown ammount of time. I was expecting to see many posts about the download going very slow, or possibly not at all if Dave also had something similar happen. However, I am very glad to see 3 different people other than ourselves are seeding. Thanks guys. :D

I don't think anyone wants to download from a 56K guy like me. I think I might try to get the movie in a bit. Sorry if I don't keep the window open. I'm not big into hosting files. :(

I just re-opened my window and will pretty much leave it open, my connection is pretty stable and should always be on.

I've waited over 10 minutes and it still hasn't done anything... I guess I'll just keep it open until it downloads..

Couldn't you just upload the video to some site and have people download it from there, or am I missing something? :?

Could we? Yes. Should we. Depends on money. Really, it does. Videos eat a lot of bandwith. Lots of bandwith on one server costs a lot of money. BitTorrent distributes the job of uploading to everyone who is downloading or seeding, so it's not off one server, but rather right off of an individual's computer, using their internet connection. Basically, the small ammount of added trouble far outweighs the increased bandwith usage that would result in posting it on the website.

We are using this video as a test to see how it works out. I think for future videos we are going to put the low quality/smaller file download up on the site in zip files like the other videos we have up there right now. This will allow people who have a dial up connection or don't want to download bittorent to see the movies. Then we are going to use Bittorrent for the High Quality videos which would normally eat up alot of bandwidth. For those of you who have downloaded and already seen the movie using bittorrent, for future videos you will only need to click on the file since you will already have Bittorrent on your computer.

Whats not working? If you don't let us know whats going wrong, we can't help. Also, did you follow the instructions each step of the way, exactly as it says to do? Also, tonight I am going to stop seeding. Tommorow afternoon I'll be leaving for a week and a half, and will be unable to provide any support with BitTorrent. Don't count on Dave for help with it, he's clueless about it. However, there may be a couple other members who can provide help, as long as it's being seeded. Also, for when I'm gone, if you need to see if it is seeded, click here. It is the stats page for the torrent, near the bottom it tells how many seeders and leechers there are. If there are no seeders, you may be able to start downloading it, but it will never complete.

The seeds for the video have stopped, so the video is no longer availiable. It will be available on the site in a few days though, for those who missed it on the Bittorrent.

Read Dave's latest post. It should answer your question, and no, we do not accept requests for re-seeds. And since there are no seeds, to avoid confusion, I'm locking this. The video is no longer avalible.
