I don't know how many of you here have heard a of a certain roller coaster called Moonsault Scramble?
It was a shuttle coaster in Japan, keyword was.
It was apparantley the first coaster over 200ft...but I really don't know that for a fact.
Anyways, I found a video of it, and I laugh hysterically.
This thing pulled 6.2 G's and had an AWFUL liftcar system on
the first tower. It had awful transitions, and just awful all around.
Yes, Moonsault Scramble was the first coaster 200ft tall, regardless of what CP thinks . It's insane g-forces in the pretzel loop ultimately led to its demise.
6.2 G's is allowed now, several Schwarzkopf's pull around 6.5 G's, it really comes down to how decent the ride is, apparantly Moonsault scramble was on the rough side and unpopular

http://themeparkcritic.com/scripts/profile/ViewProfile.asp?ViewID=2909 A furious storm once roared `cross the sea, catching ships in its path, helpless to flee. Instead of a certain and watery doom, the winds swept them here to Typhoon Lagoon!

Any rides in the US pull those kind of Gs?
Great video, you can tell how bad that loop must have hurt through the video.
RIP: Trailblazer and Deja Vu...heck, even Alien Encounter

First complete circuit coaster above 200 ft. is how they originally advertised Magnum I believe. Kind of like how Raging Bull was advertised as the first Hyper-Twister in North America because of Fujiyama in Japan. It's kind of strange how Cedar Point's page for Magnum leaves out the complete circuit part (but Wikipedia's Magnum pagedoes not). That's not the first time a park's official web page didn't have all the information.
No matter how you look at it, you're right, Cedar Point is taking credit for something they don't have because they aren't being specific enough . . . I suppose adding “complete circuit” to the page would make it sound like an obscure statistic, but they are still lying when they advertise it as anything else.
I remember reading on Theme Park Review that Vekoma designs some rough steel coasters, however their wooden coasters are somewhat smooth.
List Of Vekoma Wooden Coasters
- Loup Garou at Walibi Belgium
- Robin Hood at Walibi World
- Thundercoaster at TusenFryd
List of Vekoma Steel Coasters
- Almost any Coaster called Boomerang
- DeJa Vu
- Batwing at Six Flags America
- Two Face at Six Flags America
- T2 at Kentucky Kingdom
- Joker's Revenge at Six Flags Fiesta Texas
If you have ridden any of these coasters, answer this question. Is a Vekoma Wooden Coaster smoother and better than their other coasters?
Cedar Point is probably just saying that Magnum was the first successful 200+ft coaster and since Moonsault got demolished, technically Magnum is the oldest as opposed to the first hypercoaster. Plus that's what Magnum is known for and the General Public doesn't know any different.

Schwarzkopf's early loopers pulled 6ish Gs when he first started off, but they were smooth and he controlled where the heartline was, making the ride fun instead of painful.

Schwarzkopfs Final looper, Olympia pulls 5.5 or so. Thriller pulled 6.5(operated at SFAW that way), Dreier pulls in the 6 Range, in it's original configuration Wiener Looping pulled 6.5 (and it operated in the US like that for a short time at Circus World). Schwarzkopf liked those crushing G's
