Wow. This is by far the most intense haunted house I have ever been to. We got there at ten, right when they closed, and were part of the final group of the season, and man did they let us have it.
First off, it costs 30 bucks, so I was gonna be pretty upset if it was lame, but I definitely wasn't dissapointed. They don't allow children under ten on the property, and under 15 have to be with an adult, so right off the bat we were excited. First they put us in this outdoor holding cell, cramming about 60 people into this outdoor fenced in cellblock, with this maniac directly above us popping down from trap doors dangling a dead baby. There was no room to move at all, we were pressed up against the fence and getting really nervous. The guards were barking out orders quite profanely and getting in people's faces with flashlights with taunts like, "Get the hell over here maggots! Slide to the left sh*theads! TO THE LEFT, God D*mmit!" They were very verbally abusive and I could tell right away this was not going to be your ordinary house.
We went through a couple of these holding cells untill we were greeted by the warden, who was in a cage above us, and gave us some schpeil about the inmates breaking out and overrunning the place. There was a huge BANG, then tons of lights and fog revealing the guy as this huge monsterous demon who then started frlying a couple guys in electric chairs on the walls above us, sending out live arcs of electricity via tesla coils into their heads, sparking and smoking! Awesome! Then, the cage busts open, swinging down over half the room, coming within a foot of our heads and banging down, we thought we were gonna be crushed, then the warden runs and slides off the edge of the cage, and proceeds to FLY ACROSS THE ROOM, spining and clawing at us! The coolest effect I have ever seen at a haunted house, hands down! The gaurds then instruct us to kick open the door and start running, RUNNING through the house, giving more graphic insults as to what they will do to us if we slow down.
There are way too many rooms to give a detailed transcription of inside, but to give you an idea, the place is crawling with actors, they are everywhere! I was trying to count, but lost track in the 30s. I would say there were probably 70 to 80 actors in there. No joke. The thing took 45 heart-pumping minutes to get through. And the actors wouldn't back down, once they scared, they were in your face untill the other took over. No dead time. They were all individual and had great characters. Some highlights include a psycho ward where girls laughed insanely, cried in the corner, ran into walls repeately, and a few of them who cornered me, glowling and sniffing like dogs. I've never been sniffed before. It was kind of amusing, yet very disturbing. The clown area had mirrors and clowns everywhere, the walls painted checkered red and white and seemed to swirl on forever, the optical illusions in this place were insane! I must have ran, almost full speed, into 4 or five walls in there. The coolest thing in the house though was the inmate's ability to "fly". I loved how 6 or 7 of the actors would drop down, bungee back up and over you and disappear, or soar over your head. The tracks in the ceiling were masked very well, as were the ropes and harnesses. I would never expect it every time it happened. It was unbelievably amazing, a great way to spend Halloween night. It takes about 75 minutes to get down there from Gurnee, it's close to Peoria, but amazingly well worth the drive! Too bad it's closed for the season, but definitely get there next year if you want an incredibly viscious, insulting, and uncomfortable experience that pushes you to the limit. What a great house!
