Coaster-net has a section that lists rides that were proposed for parks but cancelled or considered. Anyway, I thought that it would be cool if we listed rides that were considered and cancelled or rides that were added last minute to Six Flags Great America and why. There are a few that I know so I'll begin. Sorry if this topic has been done before.
Cancelled
-- Mr. Freeze : It was probably cancelled due to Height Restrictions but I'm guessing at this one. It was also probably a Premier Rides LIM Coaster similar to Mr. Freeze at Six Flags St. Louis and was to open in 1996.
-- Two Face the Flip Side : I remember reading that it was to be built in 2001, and I guess got cancelled when Six Flags found out that Vekoma was building a larger version called DeJaVu. I'm guessing that it was to be the same as Two Face at Six Flags America.
Last Minute
-- Shockwave was supposed to go to Great Adventure in New Jersey but was cancelled when in 1987, there were gang problems at the park and they knew that Shockwave would just bring in more teens.
Mr. Freeze was canceled, from what I heard, due to the reliability of the ride at the time was awful. They did not want to put in a ride that was down most of the year in SFStL the previous year, therefore, they put in CCN.
Universal Orlando Mechanical Engineer Marathon down, Goofy to go.
>>>>I do not want to start a rumor<<<<
But When Six Flags used to be own by premier park in 2005, I heard they aksed B&M for a new proto type, similar/or/same as 4Th Dimension. for SFGAm for06/07.
>>>>I DO NOT WANT TO START A RUMOR, this is only somehting I heard<<<<
Six Flags Ameirca as the number 1 park at SFI.... this is JOKE!
Well, as 06/07 has passed...that's not really starting a rumor. And when you (coasterboy) say Shockwave was supposed to go to SFGADv, do you mean OUR Shockwave?

I remember hearing all about that rumor before the 2006 season. And look at us today and all of the other parks in the world, nobody is yet to have a B&M 4th Dimension coaster. Hopefully though, someday that will come true, and we will have some kind of 4D coaster.
And it would also be really cool if SFGAm were to get a new coaster that was NOT a clone of another ride. When you think about it, there are only a couple of coasters at Great America that are not duplicates of other rides or have been duplicated since they were built.
before 1998 SFGAm had no clones (counting Batman as the original). Spacley's started a trend, and Viper isn't an exact copy of any other cyclone, but I guess you could count it as a clone, it is a cy-clone after all.
also for Mr. Freeze the 3 SF LIM coasters were built to open in 1997, Chiller operated for less than one week and the 2 Mr. Freezes never opened at all in 97 and that is what effectively canceled ours.
B&M 4-D was just a wild rumor, I wouldn't expect B&M to try something like that, they are based in reliable rides and proven designs that appeal to a wide range of people, I don't think anything resembling the Arrow 4-D would fit into any of those 3 category's.
And I did hear that original our ShockWave was originally to be built at SFGAdv, never heard a reason though why it wasn't and in 1989 they got GASM so it was a moot point, never looked into it.
And DV is a prime example of SF being retared for a second time. Bought 3 LIM coasters that were unproven and didnt work right (at leat at first), so what do they do 5 years later, they buy 3 more unproven designs, from Vekoma no less, all at one time and all 3 again dont work, what a shock (4 if you count Stunt Fall).
I think stuff mentioned in this thread so far covers pretty much the credible stuff at SFGAm
Moving on from SFGAm, Hershey was supposed to get the Interactive Rides Frequent Faller a few years back and was announced and all and was even partially fabricated, but at the last min Interctive rides said either the ride was going to cost more than the contract stated or they were going to provide fewer cars than the contract stated due to increased in material costs, and HP told Interactive where to stick their frequent faller. Not sure what ever happened legally with that though, 99% sure Hershey sued.
All I can think of off the top of my head, though I'm sure there are others.
Favorite Wood Coasters: The Voyage, Ravine Flyer II, Thunderhead, Balder Favorite Steel: Voltron Nevera, Steel Vengeance, Expedition GeForce, Olympia Looping Parks visited: 232, Coasters Ridden: Steel: 894, Wood: 179, Total: 1073
^I remember that frequent faller ride, that thing looks like it could be REALLY cool...wasn't there some kind of crazy rumor to build one of those off the stratosphere in Las Vegas (consider it's other two new rides are from Interactive rides as well)?!
RIP: Trailblazer and Deja Vu...heck, even Alien Encounter
I've heard interactive rides name thrown around regarding a new stratosphere coaster, but I doubt it'd be a frequent faller, there just isnt much room on top of the tower, and they really cant go off the edge unless the next stop is ground level, as rescuing people a stalled car that's out over the edge of the tower would be a bad day for all involved.

I think that a new coaster should be built off the edge of the Stratosphere. I have never been to Las Vegas, but for somebody who isn't too scared of heights, the current rides atop the Stratosphere sound pretty lame. They should make a new coaster that has a huge drop and very high speeds instead of building a ride that feels like you're going to drop, but it really just stops you at the last minute.
as far as i know there are no coasters on top of stratosphere at the current time. High Holler closed at least a year or 2 ago, and don't think there has ever been a second.

I guess they sort of have one. It's that tilting thing, but it's on a track and looks like a coaster train. They also have the Big Shot and Insanity which has arms where people are seated facing down.
Highroller was a joke. Big Shot before interactive rehabed it was amazing. X scream scared me half to death. The rides up there are okay rides, but made amazing by their placement.
As far as I know the project name or something along those lines was "Wilderness Coaster", and it was going to be in the area of CCN and Wilderness Theatre.
What kind of name is the "Wilderness Coaster"? Couldn't they think of something a little more creative. At least it is better than the title "Giant Drop".
I heard a while ago, that V2 was originally going to be named Superman, but was cancelled when they found out B&M was working on a Flying Coaster Model. Just thought I would mention that.
With the Mr. Freeze coaster, I remember reading that they were going to take out one of the Flumes (Logger's Run, Yankee Clipper) and add it there.

They could go off the edge, only if they build a evacuation system along with the track of the coaster off the edge, which would be very costly and not economical, especially building it at that height.

For the Shockwave, It went to SFGAM instead of SFGAVD because they were fighting with the city to allow such a height limit. Which I believe went to court and took over a year to allow them to build it.
I was told by an employee in 1998 that SFGAm would be getting a 200ft tall coaster the next year named Silver Bullet. He was right about the 200ft coaster part, but the name was saved for a B&M built quite a few years later.
