Sunday 10/7: Frightfully HOT!

Let us know how your day at the park was.
Postby Chubascoboy on October 7th, 2007, 11:52 pm
Today was a great day at Fright Fest, except for the heat and it was pretty busy, but the crowds were expected.

Walked in the main gate right at 10. Wanted to be at the chain before 10, but oh well. Still, with a little luck, managed to ride Viper, Bull, Drop, Demon, Vu, Orbit, and Triple Play all by 11:30. Happy with that. Sadly, that was about it for the day's riding.

Then we ran to the car for sun block and realized we didn't have any-so I wound up with a bit of a burn. Still can't believe I have a sunburn...in October...in Chicago. Not complaining about the lingering Summer days though. However, NONE of the water rides were going not even Blood River, which I thought for sure would be open since it was so hot.

After our wasted trip to the car, we did Superstition. I loved it even more than last year. AND they hardly used the red flashing lights which I remember someone complaining about last year. One of these years I'll have to finally ride it as the Space Shuttle just to see how it is. After Elvira we walked around front and waited for what seemed like hours at Papa John's by Superman. Then saw Blood River was closed. All the lines were pretty long now except for Whirligig so we rode that, then walked around to the train station to see that wasn't running either. Are they even doing Ghost Train this year?

We walked through the new Area 51. Just doesn't seem to fit as well there to me. After that we just kind of wandered around checking out the decorations until around 1:30 when I had to go back to the car to get my phone. We came back in and rode Condor/Raven. Just stuffed birds everywhere and the ride cycle did seem different. It looked really cool later after it got dark though and they added some fog and changed the lighting effects. Still a nice ride in daylight though.

After we got off Condor, the Freak parade was passing by and no offense to the performers, but last year was better. I know it is only the third day, but it seemed like a lot less people and they didn't stop and do a number like last year, at least not at the same spot.

I was ready to get out of the heat and sun, so next we went to see the 3 o'clock Haunted Castle. I was really hoping this would be cool, and It did have some nice shots, but I was disappointed in this. Superstition is much better.

We stopped at the gift shop by the Pictorium entrance for awhile and bought some junk, then just made it to the 4 o'clock Susan Rosen show. At first, I thought this would be lame and phony and that I'd want to leave before it was over, but they ask you not too-though many people did, some very rudely and noisily. She called a few groups out for this which was funny. The show lasted a full hour and turned out to be pretty good. The funniest part were the audience members who got hypnotized. There were about 6. Maybe they were all plants. Pretty interesting and funny though.

It was now after 5, and I couldn't take seeing anymore of those 2008 Season Pass signs, so I broke down and went ahead and got my pass. That was quick and easy. Unbelievably though, my new picture is even worse than the last one. By then it was almost 5:30, so we went to the new walk-through by Demon and The Wall. Not a lot to talk about here, not many actors. Their costumes were decent at least. It was still daylight though. I'd leave this one for after dark if possible.

Walked around the arcade in County Fair for a while, then waited almost half an hour for a drink. NONE of the pop machines are working. At least one didn't steal my money this time.

By now it was 7 and pretty dark, and I was seriously tired, so we walked through Necropolis and enjoyed that in the dark, then we thought about giving Whizzer a try as last ride, but I just couldn't do it. If only it hadn't been so hot and humid all day, I probably would have stayed until close. I didn't even know about the bonus coaster hour until after I got home.

All in all, another nice trip. May very well be my last for the year, but I'm going to do my best to get there one more time before the 28th.

we went on saturday too. We didn't ride a whole lot of stuff because of the lines. I think we only did Batman, American Eagle, Whizzer and Ricochet.

They're not doing the train at all this year to answer your question. I also am not a big fan of the new area 51. It just looked kind of out of place in that area. Hometown Square looked really dull without the big UFO in the middle.

I didn't know about the bonus coaster hour either. I never heard one thing about it.

Glad you managed to ride all that rides before it got busy. Although I thought the Predators lines where OK and so as Drop I dont understand why they didnt call it hellevator they just put in a stupid sign on it that says Hellevator anyways just like Snakes on A Train where they just put a sign and a couple of big plastic snakes around the que. Youre right buying food was 30 minutes to an hour just to buy soda in other food booths. DV, Superman,RB, and AE lines where a nightmare but glad had a fun day minus the hot weather. Have fun on youre next trip.

The Rise of the Demon was closed whenever we went buy it. When did it close that night? Because when we walked by it around 8:30 it was all blocked off.

When I went last, only blue was running, and it was running poorly. The lift looked like it was struggling to get the train over the top. Has anyone else experienced this?

Ah yes! Once in the summer, it slowed to almost a stop coming to the top. It also happened to us yesterday. But other than that I thought it ran great, yesterday anyway.

Rise of the Demon Closes early for parade, and of course they have to take breaks, and instead of giving you a reduced scare, it is closed while they are all on break.
