Thanks for posting that.

By the way, on that page there are actually 2 videos. The 2nd one shows a bit more info, and the implosion from a few different angles.

I never got a chance to ride one of those I think I should before they disappear off the face of the us.

For anyone that has gone on one: Are they better than the new drop towers?

the 1'st gen freefalls have a much more intense feeling of freefall. I like them a bit better than new Giant Drops. However the ride is not very comfortable and it can bang you around quite a bit especially when transfering from the upper track laying on your back to the lower track being upright.

I love Demon Drop, it provides an incredible rush that the modern drop towers don't have. Just hold on to all your loose change, I think I "donated" about $2 in change to that ride.

SFMM and CP's are still up, right? I'll have to get on one before the year is through. That's a bummer about Wildcatter.

SFGadv's and SFMM's nearly tore my arm off.

But never the less the 1st Gen drop towers are great.

Interesting to see them use dynamite to take the ride down, usually dont see that.

wonder how much more that cost the broke SF compared to taking it down with a crane.

Also as far as i know Demon Drop @ CP is up for sale, though the park has stated they plan on operating it til they find a buyer (they best not hold their breath).

It could be total BS, but I thought I read on a Coasterbuzz forum post that Demon Drop has a buyer and its days at the park are also numbered (if that's the case, then I'm really glad I rode it this past summer).

...and if not, anyone else still wanna pitch in on it? I think we totaled about $70 last time... :)

I LOVE THE FIRST GENERATION FREEFALLS! The Edge was one of my all time favorite rides at Great America, and I miss it incredibly! I'm glad I got a last chance to ride Wildcatter and let my 9 year old son try it this past spring. The newer drop towers are great too, but the freefalls offer a totally unique experience- like part roller coaster, drop tower, and an elevator out of control! Imagine riding a service elevator up a 10 story steel structured building under construction, and being pushed forward over the edge, elevator and all. That's kind of what it's like! I urge everyone to contact Cedar Point and Magic Mountain and urge them to keep their freefalls before it's too late! Better yet, get over there and ride them! I do agree with the person who said that the drop seems more intense- I can yell and scream all the way down on Giant Drop, but on the Edge/Wildcatter/Demon Drop, it's like the drop is so sudden, your scream sticks in your throat! :D It's awesome!

I was thinking that same thing about costing more to implode it. What came to me on that subject however, is that the publicity of blowing it down generated much more attention on the fact that they will be adding a new coaster next year. I checked the Sun Times and the Tribune for any articles on our new coaster and didn't find anything.
