Most Underrated Rides

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.

What are in your opinions the most underrated rides you've been on? It can be both flat ride or roller coaster.

Flat Ride
The Intamin First-Gen Freefalls. Although they're not as high as the modern-day Giant Drops, they still are a hell of a rush, and when you get to the top of the tower and it suddenly slows down, you get a quick pop of airtime. Then the drop itself leaves you flying out of your seat. Personally, I'd take a Freefall over a Drop Tower any day.

Roller Coaster
It's got to be Disaster Transport at Cedar Point. I don't get why everyone hates this ride. I loved the lift hill (awesome lighting effect) and being completely in the dark for most of the ride was really exciting. From the minute I walked into the 12E building I had no clue what to expect. The theming, although said to be "tamed", is still really neat and I loved the way the "Repair Bay" was made with parts moving and all sorts of weird noises blaring in my ears. Then on the actual ride it was so dark I had no idea where I was going most of the way. I liked this ride so much I had to of ridden this at least half a dozen times.

I don't really know about flats, but as far as a roller coaster goes. Superman: Ultimate Flight. A lot of people on this forum don't like it because it has "nothing to offer after the pretzel loop." I just like it because you are flying throughout it and in my opinion, not every coaster has to have like absolutely non-stop insane inversions and/or airtime (depending on the coaster type) to be really enjoyable. Sure, I won't ride it if the line is super long, like it is early in the day usually, but I love the pretzel loop and the whole ride.
Hee hee, look. I have a signature thingy um, thing.

As far as coaster go, I'd say Mean Streak. It seems to be universally hated because of its heavy trimming and roughness. If you're looking for a smooth ride, keep away from woodies and ride a B&M or something. For what it's worth, Mean Streak packs a hell of a punch, and is pretty much non stop awesomeness. I don't know, maybe it's because I've got a thing for woodies or something, but it's one of my all time favorite rides.

For flats, I'd say Condor. I don't know why. I just like it.

As for coasters, definitely Mean Streak. For the same reasons DIKY stated.

Flats... Not really sure. King Chaos maybe.

I'm with you!!! I loved the Edge at Great America, and miss it even more than my beloved Tidal Wave. I went to SFOT at Dallas recently, mainly to ride their Edge clone, "Wildcatter." I've never been to Cedar Point yet, but if I go, I would be just as excited to ride Demon Drop as all those huge coasters! I rode the S&S Superman air launch tower in Dallas and Giant Drop many times, and they are great, but it's a totally different experience than the first generation freefalls. I think the freefalls actually have more in common with roller coasters than drop towers. Why, for example, is Superman the Escape at MM considered a roller coaster when freefalls aren't? They both run on a track, go up a tower, and free fall back down. I don't understand why parks can't have both freefalls and drop towers. Just because they both freefall doesn't make them the same ride experience, just like most coasters have drops, but each one is unique in it's own way. Either way, i think it's a shame that so many freefalls have been removed, and hope at least Cedar Point and SFOT and SFMM will keep theirs around.

Oh, and I also think swing rides like whirlygig are underrated- They are always fun, and always popular. The Orbit is still fun after all these years, too!

As for coasters, I think our very own American Eagle and Viper are both very underrated. There are bigger and faster woodies out there, not to mention steel monsters, but I still think these two offer a better ride with lots of air time, without beating the crap out of you like some of the newer and bigger coasters (e.g.- "The Boss" at SFSL, or Texas Giant at SFOT). You don't see either of these coasters mentioned when they list the best coasters in the country, but I would take American Eagle, Viper, or Screaming Eagle at SFSL or Judge Roy Scream at SFOT, over many newer coasters anyday!

Most Underrated coaster... I'd say Mean Streak as well for the above reasons. The drops are fantastic.

Most underrated flat: This one's easy. American Eagle at Kings Island (Moved to Carowinds). KI was my home park, and I would ride the eagles at LEAST 5 times every time I went. You could snap the cables really hard and your eagle would "bounce". It was so fun. There were always tons of kids competing with eachother to see who could make their eagle bounce the hardest. What a great ride. And they took it out to "make room" for Italian Job: Stunt Crap. Not to mention they could definitely have left it there. IJST doesn't even fill the space that it was in. DAMN YOU PARAMOUNT!
Millennium Force Laps: 22
Maverick Laps: 1
TTD Laps: 12

Just moved to Chicago from Ohio, and I'm ready for SFGA!

I think Georgia Scorcher is because nobody talks about it and it is fairly smooth and pretty cool! It is also a great ride to start off the day at OG cause its right at the front of the park.

As for flats, Id have to say Condor, easily. Its soo fun and you get a descent view of the park.

Yeah, Condor is fun. Personally, at GAm I like Revy the best (happy spinny fun), but Condor's still fun.
