Some pretty hefty fines if your caught, not to mention that your insurance rates will go up.

Excellent,

Highway construction workers risk life and limb everyday to maintain and build our expressways and tollways. I am all for this, and will be sure to watch my speed through construction zones.

I don't work on the highway, but I do work on the streets. It's like your not even there. A few cars have gotten pretty close to hitting me and I'm wearing a bright yellow vest, so seeing me shouldn't be a problem.

I too, recently had a job working in public works, ironically putting up a 35mph sign on a street, and cars got pretty close in a reflective green vest. And no way were they going 35mph...but i'm not complaining.

As for construction zones, it is unbelieveable that we as a state are STILL fixing and expanding already safe roads, such as I-294 between O'Hare and Willow Rd. I feel IDOT should focus more on improving single lane roads and more hazardous sitestreets where accidents are more prone. I-PASS and Open Road tolling is just another way State government is micro-managing us.

And for the record, I drove 63 mph in a speed zone not two hours ago and i'm not sorry.

^ I do believe that the side streets are the responsibility of individual towns, not IDOT. I could be wrong though.

The only problem with drive 45 is that 294 from the 159th street exit (almost the very southern end) all the way north as far as o'hare and beyond is nothing but construction.

Yes going slower gives you a better reaction time and thus could save more lives, but these work zones are every wear by me.

80/94 is under construction in between torrence and calumet so its slow-go/no-go when i have to go to work/school. 94 they are finally done with from route 6 north until you hit about 103rd street i believe.

Honestly, i wish they had those concrete barriers dividing moving traffic from the construction workers.

It seems that 80-94 is always under construction, and always in the same location. It has been like that for the past 7-8 years hasn't it?

Wow forddude, I live literaly RIGHT by you if you're at the 159th exit.

Seriously, wasn't the open road tolling suppposed to be done awhile ago?
Now they're working on making cash plaza look better?

Come on.

Yeah, it's crazy. There's so much construction on 294 on the way to GAm it's ridiculous. I never even see anyone do 45 in those zones. I try to, and there are always people on my tail and zooming past.

Well after the sorely needed redone torrence exchange ramp, hopefully it will bring in more traffic (and then more business) to all those shops that had to suffer while torrence (the street) was being ripped up.

The problem was before when you came from 94 going east bound, if you had to go to torrence, you had no choice but to cross over about 3-4 lanes of traffic. Some lady got smashed inbetween two big rigs and survived right in that area. After that, they finally realized how bad of an intersection that is.

On 80-94 the cline interchange was under construction for about 2 years to make it more suitable as an expressway to the gary airport. Then they redid indianapolis and calumet before that. After cline but before this mess, they redid torrence the street. Now they redid the interchange between torrence and 80/94 and the interchange between 394,80,94,294.

One of my problems is what really is a construction zone? Just because you have a few road cones there and a pothole doesn't nessicarly mean i should go 45. Yes, when road crews are there I am very cautious and always try to move into the other lane if possible. Outside of that, I hardly see the need to always do 45.

I like expressways what can i say?

ORT is done on the 80 ramp, the far left lane at the 159th/294 ramp is still under construction. All of the major toll booths have ORT though. I had to use them on my way to work.
