After neighbors complain, amusement park bans screaming on thrill ride
Sacramento, California.
No screaming on the Screamer! A suburban amusement park has gotten so many complaints from neighbors about bloodcurdling screams that it has instituted a no- shrieking rule for its scary new thrill ride, The Scandia Screamer, a giant windmill-like contraption that sends people plunging 16 stories at nearly 60 mps. Riders who let out a screech, or just about any other noise are pulled off and sent to the back of the line. "After the first complaint, our rule was no profanity," said Steve Baddley, general manager at the Scandia Family Fun Center. "Then neighbors said it wasnt just that, it was the crazy excessive screaming. Then they said loud laughing, everything. Eventually we said "bag it, thats it- no noise" the rule was imposed March 29th, nearly three weeks after the ride opened. As passengers are strapped into two metal baskets, the operater recites this warning: "We are required to remove you from this ride if you make any noise, if you feel you might make a noise, please cover your mouth tightly with your hands like this (the operator then covers mouth with hand.) If we hear any noise throught your hand, we will remove you from the ride. so please remain silent and enjoy the screamer." Those who dared the ride last week said keeping quiet is harder than it sounds. " i think we were just talking loudly. I wouldn't say it was screaming" said 15- year old Anna Matsoyan, after she and her little sister were pilled off the ride for what sounded more like a whimper. "it's kind of a bummer. It makes you want to scream."
What the heck? this article was in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinal this morning, If people want to scream let them! I can guarintee that if any of those residents near the amusement park were to go on this ride they would scream too! If they cant stand the screams then move away.
There was a video segment on Good Morning America today. The neighbors are also complaining about the ride being lit up at night, too. The GM said they are not going to be changing the name of the ride.
Ironically, the catchphrase of Scandia Park is "It's A Scream."
I'd tell the people to shove it. That park should look into the problems that Alton Towers has had in the past.

^yes they have rights, but they decided to live there. Theres a neighborhood right behind IW and nobody complains and that thing is a beast with screaming and wind noise.
Anyway, dont spoil that for the park MOVE! I got money that says people who live there go to the park and would be put to the back of the line for screaming.
This is another hysterical announcement! What's with all of these crazy amusement park stories lately? Some people can't physically keep the screams in, we'll see how long this lasts before the complaints of the guests are greater than those of the neighbors!
RIP: Trailblazer and Deja Vu...heck, even Alien Encounter

Actually the neighbors of SFGAm do complain about noise, but it's more from V2.
Universal Orlando Mechanical Engineer Marathon down, Goofy to go.
There isn't a neighborhood behind Iron Wolf...There's Offices, then a parking lot, then washington street, then a strip mall, then a field, then the des plaines river, then a child care center, then a library, then a post office...there's no neighborhood.

^I believe this is a new record for the length of time that Shockwave hasn't been mentioned
Are the people who complain behind the employee lot? It doesn't make sense if the people back by the entrance are complaining. I know from back there you can hear the music from the entrance plaza sometimes, but from that far there isn't much to complain about.

The only neighborhood there is is all the way back to the stoplight at the yellow gates I don't think they can hear much other than the cars that keep on passing by their house.
Whizzer is the best roller coaster in MY WORLD!
Some people take roller coasters as rides, some as passions,I take them as life!
This story makes me laugh. Sometimes I scream just for the fun of it. It makes the ride more fun sometimes. Good luck to them with doing this policy. It sounds pretty stupid to me.
I agree I do scream for the fun of it too. over spring break in Florida I screamed on Everest and TOT and they wernt even scary it was just fun to scream.
Wow... I hate to sound inconsiderate, but what were they expecting? Soft sounds of the ocean, crickets, and rain, to help them sleep?
To me, screaming is just an expression of my excitement or a measure of how much fun I'm having (or, more often, a poor imitation of other girls' high pitched screeches). It's part of the whole amusement park experience, I think.
You can't please everyone, I guess... I just feel sorry for the visitors being [unjustly] pulled out for having fun...
I think they went a little extreme on this one. They should meet the neighbors half way! During the day from lets say 10-8 scream all you want. After 8pm shut the ride down!
