Okay, so since it's the offseason still and I haven't contributed by placing a topic, I thought i'd throw one out there. So I know this has happened to everyone and I'm interested to see which rides, so here are the two questions....
Have you ever been on a ride that you heard was horrible, but really liked it?! Which one...
Have you ever been on a ride that you've heard amazing things about, but you really didn't think it was all that great?! Which one...
In my opinion, I really didn't enjoy Magnum XL-200 at Cedar Point. I thought it was painful on the knees, boring in parts, and it's one of the few rides that halfway through I was thinking "gosh, lets end this thing!" I also seem to think that Iron Dragon at Cedar Point is one heck of a ride. It's smooth, very long, and a great ride for the families, but yet, no one else seems to think this.
RIP: Trailblazer and Deja Vu...heck, even Alien Encounter
One of my all time favorites is Thunderhead at Dollywood. I havent heard terrible reviews, but i've heard some comments about how its nothing special. I think its great, speed, turns, LONG, and a ton of head choppers. Not to mention the "You hardly ever have to wait in a long line becuase no ones heard of Dollywood that much"
One ride i didnt care for was Superman: Krypton Coaster. It was said to be and amazing ride but i didnt think it was anything too great. I think Scream! and Medusa are better than it.
One coaster that everyone said was incredible was Millenium Force, but after I got off the only thing I could say was, "That was it?" Perfectly smooth and fast, but thats its problem. Seemed forceless and boring to me.
The coaster that everybody seemed to hate but I love has to be The Boss. A lot of people think its too rough and painful for the thighs but I think that it is a good forceful wooden coaster with decent airtime and a ton of g-forces. Its good stuff all the way around.

Like....Iron Wolf
hate.. Millennium Force
http://themeparkcritic.com/scripts/profile/ViewProfile.asp?ViewID=2909 A furious storm once roared `cross the sea, catching ships in its path, helpless to flee. Instead of a certain and watery doom, the winds swept them here to Typhoon Lagoon!
I heard that Expedition Everest wasnt the best thing in the world, but when I road it (I was lucky to catch it on a soft opening) I LOVED it!
Also one that got amazing hype and everyone said they loved but wasnt that great to me was Superman:Ultimate Flight at SFGAM. I just don't get a huge thrill out of it.
I believe Iron Wolf is the best standup out there. Millenium Force isn't that great in my opinion, but I know i'm not the only person who thinks this. As for Woodies, I really like Villian, Thunder Run, and Mean Streak and a lot of people think these are terrible rides.
The ride I like that most people hate is Ninja at SFOG. I don't know why, but I thought this was a GREAT ride!!
As far as rides that most people seem to love...
Georgia Cyclone: I thought it was rough, and nowhere near as good as Viper.
Deja Vu: I want so badly to like this ride, but it just doesn't do anything for me. I much prefer Face/Off to DV.
^^
Speaking of Ninja, a lot of people hate the version in St. Louis because of its roughnesss. I think that the ride is great.
A lot of people still give B:TR lots of praises, but it just doesn't do it for me anymore (especially since almost every Six Flags I've been to has a clone version of the ride).
Flashback at SFMM I always heard was terrible but I found it enjoyable.
Shivering Timbers I heard was one of the best wooden coasters. It loses speed quickly and is the roughest ride Ive ever been on. Besides that it was still pretty fun.
I know I'm also in the Minority, but I think highly overrated rides include V2, MF, Voyage to an extent, Shivering Timbers, Georgia Cyclone and Superman at SFMM. Outside of Voyage which is my #2, I really dont care for any of those rides at all.
However to balance that out, very under rated rides of mine include SFOG Ninja, Blackpool's The Big One, Desperado at Buffalo Bills, Tornado at Adventureland, Lakeside Cyclone and Dania Beach Hurricane
Favorite Wood Coasters: The Voyage, Ravine Flyer II, Thunderhead, Balder Favorite Steel: Voltron Nevera, Steel Vengeance, Expedition GeForce, Olympia Looping Parks visited: 232, Coasters Ridden: Steel: 894, Wood: 179, Total: 1073
This is one of the best topics I've seen in a while. The coaster that I hate, but everyone loves, is Superman Ultimate Flight. It's really boring after the pretzel loop.
The most underrated coaster in my opinion is probably Raging Bull. I say this because among the hyper coasters out there, I rarely hear it mentioned.
"Oh My Gosh, She is such a whore!" - heard behind me exiting Raging Bull.
Rides that are supposed to be great, but I really don't think they are that great include MF, Hades and Expedition Everest (still a great ride, but not Disney quality, a lot more theming would be better)
Rides that aren't that rated high and don't have a great overall opinion, but I really enjoy include Manhattan Express at New York, New York Resort in Las Vegas, The Boss, and Iron Wolf.
Universal Orlando Mechanical Engineer Marathon down, Goofy to go.
Several rides I heard were horrible and I thought they were awesome, such as Mean Streak. It really wasn't that bad, it was pretty awesome.
I can't think of any ride that I dislike and that everyone else loves. I love every single ride I go on, usually. Villain at GL was pretty bad though. In 05 it wasn't too bad with roughness so I found it awesome, but in 06 it was just god awful, I could hardly enjoy it. If it wasn't so damn rough it would be great.
/\ I too heard mean streak was terrible and ended up thinking it was great. Same thing with Iron Wolf, many people complain about it but I still love it.
I also agree about MF. I heard wonderful things about it, that before riding it I guess I had too high of expectations. I mean I still thought it was a great ride, but it was over before you knew it and it didn't have the amazing airtime I had heard it had.
Not that I would say I heard horrible things about this ride, more I heard nothing about this ride. But it was better than I expected. That was Timberland Twister at Mall of America. I had no idea it existed actually and just ended up at the Mall and rode it.
One ride I hear everyone say is amazing and I think is not great is S:UF at great america. I think its too low, short, and they took a good ride out for it.
Montu - I go in it like 10x every time I go the park in every row just to see if it is ever as good as everyone says it is, and it isnt. Just not my kind of invert, the inversions are large and swoofy and not very intense. Its a good ride, just not that good. in my opinion the batwing is good in the back but the rest of the ride is just meh.
Incredible Hulk - Same as Montu, inversions are very large and swoofy and the overall ride is not that special.
V2 - Its alright, but definitley not one of the better coasters at SFGAm to me. Launch isnt really intense and the front tower does nothing for me, back tower is alright but gets boring after a few rides.
Medusa (East) - Whats the big deal with this ride. Only been on it once so I shouldnt be quick to judge, but was in the front row. I wasnt really impressed with it, probably just because I was expecting more of a Kumba-ish ride and since Kumba is much better, Medusa didnt deliver.
Mr. Six's Pandemonium - This was one of the most dissapointing coasters i've been on. After hearing all the hype for the Gerstlauer spinning coasters it didnt really deliver to me, it didnt spin much at all so I guess I cant really judge it cause im sure in a differently weighted car it mightve been a lot better. Ragin Cajun' is way more fun in my opinion.
Mr. Freeze - Its a good ride but not a great ride, I guess its not really overrated but people on these boards overrate it so I had to put it here . I liked the cobra roll on the red side of Chiller better than Freezes tophat.
Raptor - I really dont like Raptor, granted only been on it a few times and never in the front row, but the ride is just in my opinion boring. I find it kind of funny how it always gets those massive queue lines filled. Whatever floats peoples boats I guess, but it doesnt do anything for me. Give me BTR anyday...
Underrated
Iron Wolf - I love IW no matter how much people hate it, it still delivers and packs a good punch in every seat. If only more new coasters were like IW...
Cyclone SFNE - Everyone complains about how rough it is, and yes its prolly the roughest coaster i've ever been on by far, its an overall good ride. Its got some sick forces and has its moments.
The Boss - Whats with all the hate, so its rough around the edges, the layout is sick. Awesome double drop to start the ride out and the double helix is wickidley intense.
Great American Scream Machine SFGAdv - in my opinion its a little less intense than Shockwave was because of a trim, but its a lot smoother and more enjoyable. Once again too much hate for this ride, its got good forces and overall good ride (though the ride is the only thing I like about it, surrounding area is ugly).
Mantis - This is by far the best B&M at CP in my opinion, not rough, good forces, good mix of inversions, and some big drops. You dont hear much about it anymore cause rides like MF, TTD, and Raptor overshadow it but it really is one of the best rides there.
Disaster Transport - Im a sucker for enclosed coasters, and this being the only flying turns type coaster i've ever been on the ride just kindve clicked. Yes its old and the effects or corny, but being enclosed on that kind of coaster is neat nonetheless and I really enjoy it.
Demon Drop - Intamin 1st Generation freefalls are awesome and its sad their such pieces of crap maintenence wise and being wiped off the face of the earth. They are by far the most intense drop rides out there and DD is overshadowed by Power Tower (which in my opinion sucks) and really is the hidden gem of that park in my opinion. I hope somehow they can manage to keep it a few more years.
SROS Darien Lake - You hear so much about SFNE's SROS, I personally like Darien Lakes better than New Englands. The layout sucks, but the helix right after the big drop right on the lake is amazing and cannot be duplicated even by SFA's which technically is the same thing, and the airtime hills are SICK, much more air than any hill on SFNE's has.
Big Bad Wolf - The drop trim brake wasnt on when I was there, INSANE HELIX. Nuff said (im sure if I were to go there today, I wouldnt like it as much, but the day I went on it, it was amazing).
