EuroTrip Day 16 and 17 Oktoberfest and preparations to Leave

Let us know how your day at the park was.
Postby FParker185 on March 4th, 2007, 10:39 pm
Well, day started by me packing up my bags in such a way where I could get it onto the plane with out paying extra $$ for overweight bags, came up with somthing that seemed reasonable and packed up everything else and made sure I had everything that i needed to have and that nothing had gotten lost during the trip and it call came out OK, so I checked out and confirmed that my reservation had in fact been cancelled for this coming night which it was, so walked my now extremely heavy back down to the train (also bought souviners on day 15, some of which were heavy), so walked that mile which felt like 2 and dragged my back up the steps and waited for the train to take me into the city.

My plan was in order to save $$ back when I was in Mannheim I called the hotel and canceled my final night to save about $120 and all I had to do was store my bag somewhere do Oktoberfest retreive my bag and head to the airport and sleep there. So my train arrives and I take it to the main train station where i track down the lockers and it turns out my bag will fit nicely in the locker and it's only a few bucks exept it only takes change which I had none available and all the change machines were broken, so after like 45 minutes of wandering around and passing people over and over again who are in the same perdicament if the other had any success, but I eventually found someone willing to break a €10 note so I was all set, found the lockers again threw my bags inside minus my waist pack camera and wallet pretty much and I headed to the trains to catch the next one to the fairgrounds (after eating at a BK in the train station), so I go down to Oktoberfest which I really dont want to do cause I'd already had enough of it, but i had a whole day to waste and I really didnt have enough $$ left to do anything else in town like any major tourist sights, so I basically walked around all day taking pics and I believe I rode Olympia again along with one or 2 rerides here and there and just taking all sorts of pics for the next 10 or so hours. So yeah, I spent basically all my $$ save for enough to eat between that night and my 11:40am departure time the next day, so not to long before close I got on the subway and went back to the train station where I went back to that BK and ate again spending all my $$ or €€ and basically being broke exept for a Euro or 2, so then I remember it's like €4 to get a ticket in addition to my inner city ticket to the airport, but I figured I'd just take advanatge of the honor system just once cause I needed to and luckly between the train station and the airport no one was checking tickets, next time I'm in Munich maybe I'll pay for one extra train fare to make up for that and balance out the universe :)

So I got to the airport and wandered around for a while passing other sleeping people who took all the primo spots (bastards), and I eventually found a bench that seemed comfortable enough where I slept for 4-5 or so hours, woke up like 5:30 ish and used the bathrooms and washed up just a bit and I went back to the counter where no one was there yet to check my bags so I sat there for like a half hour or so til a girl arrived, now at the Munich airport it's like 100% luftansa and my flight was on Air Canada which is a Luftansa I believe One World alliance member so I made sure i could check in my Air Canada Bags at the Luftansa desk, though it turned out my bag was quite a bit overweight but you are allowed 2 bags so the nice lady let me slide and labeled it the maximum allowable weight instead of the actual weight I got my tix and headed to the gate to wait for my plane which departed at 11:45 am, over there I sat around, walked aroudn and slept some til the plane arrived.

Didnt mean to get into day 17 but I guess I will, will be continued in the next TR

next up Eurotrip Day 17 The Flight Home

A furious storm once roared `cross the sea, catching ships in its path, helpless to flee. Instead of a certain and watery doom, the winds swept them here to Typhoon Lagoon!

I believe NASA is still calculating my bills :)

Though it was somewhere around $2800-$2900 all said and done with Airfare, hotels, car, gas, food and park admissions and a few knick nacks from a few parks, not to bad for a trip of this magnatude for one person.

It was more than I was expecting due to the extremely weak Dollar and right before i left the dollar took another dive against the Euro which screwed up my budgeting.

I bet most people would kill for a regular vacation consisting of 18 days in Europe for under 3 grand and that'd be without any theme parks :)
