Six Flags begins removing Freefalls from parks.

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.
Postby [jonrev] on December 8th, 2006, 12:05 am
Stuntman's Freefall is being removed from SFGAdv. Apparantly all Freefalls in the Six Flags chain are up for sale and being removed. With Cedar Fair trying to get rid of all of theirs as well I think these things are going to be disappearing from the midways pretty shortly. :(

The freefalls being removed are currently at SFOG, SFOT, SFGAdv, and SFMM.

Below is the link to the website with all 4 of SF's Intamin 1st generation freefalls up for sale.

http://irmpri.com/current.htm

They are asking $100,000 a piece which is a bargain compared to what CF was trying to sell Mr. Hydes and Demon Drop for.

I will actually miss these rides. I enjoyed the feeling of falling and then going on your back.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

I believe Mr Hyde was sold to a park in Italy which either opened it this year or is new for next year. They should have waited a year :)

^I thought I read somewhere that CF decided to dismantle Mr. Hydes and use it for parts on Demon Drop until it got sold.

Wow, that sort of sucks. They were fun rides.

Just recently I was reading that Magic Mountain had just opened theirs again since it had been closed for awhile.

Great Adventure is really going to be lacking rides on the side of the park their Free Fall is on. When I was there Chiller was closed, so only Batman and Free Fall were over in that area. That park is really becoming lopsided.

All four were up for sale (SFMM, SFGAdv, SFOT, and SFOG). Currently, SFMM's is still operational. SFGAdv's is being dismantled, and looking at how it is being taken down, I don't think it was sold, or ever will operate again. SFOT and SFOG ran theirs this year, dont know if they will run in 2007.

Cedar Fair is still selling Demon Drop? I thought Cedar Point was going to keep it since it wasnt sold before the 2006 season.

^ No. It is still for sale. Cedar Point will continue to run it until it is sold (or they change their mind and just junk it)

yes, correction on what I heard, someone from Zamperla has set forth the truth, the one in Italy came from West Edmonton Mall, Hyde's structure was scrapped and mechanics are being parted out for Demon Drop where compatable (they are 2 different versions of the ride, there were 2 versions, hyde being Edge was the older version of the ride)

I really don't want these things gone.

Such an odd concept, but such a fun ride, you really can't imitate the feeling at all.

Aw man, that sucks. Those rides are awsome. They give you same feeling you get on S:UF's pretzel loop which is an amazing feeling.

Guess I'll have to ride Freefall in a couple weeks.

Good Riddens to the SFGadv one. I nearly broke my arm on that damn thing. The one at SFMM too.

I hope Demon Drop can last another year. I love first generation free falls and its sad to see them go. I wonder how many are going to be left.

I believe the ones at the Six Flags parks and Demon Drop are the last of them unless some foreign country got the Edge from Paramount's Great America. I think there's an indoor one too.

I'm really upset to see these things go. I have yet to ride one but when i was at Cedar Point, that was one of my regrets -- not riding it. They always looked like a lot of fun and they were really neat to watch operate. All the different noises and movement, they will be missed! I sure hope at least one or two stay

When I was first reading this, I thought I was reading about those S&S freefalls (ie Power Tower at CP). and I'm thinking, woah, why in the world would they get rid of THOSE?

But yeah, I'm glad I rode Demon Drop this year. I hope it stays another year, so I can ride it again. It's kinda sad to see them getting rid of these.
