Man dies on Goliath

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.

Nothing happened on Déjà Vu.

Yes, a 10 year old girl DID die this year (2006) after riding Spacely Sprocket's Rockets. It was the parents fault though for letting her on, knowing she has a heart condition, in the 1st place.
It's green. It's blue. It's all over you! Enjoy your ride on Déjà Vu

Actually a disturbing number of deaths recently have not been riders fault, with the Intamin Ejections and a few flat ride incidents reccently.

Though it seems so far this year that the deaths have been within the category of acceptable loss. I forget the exact percentage, but a certain fraction of a percentage of people who ride rides every year are expected to die and is considered acceptable loss (moreso for some companies rather than others).

rides are still safer than any other form of transportation.

is this just a rumor? Cause that would be pretty bad if it was real. And you think it would be on the news if it was. I don't know. It sounds a little far fetched to me, but that's just me.

actually not going to SFMM is a good rule of thumb anyways

unless of course it's absoutely necessary, need credits, forced to go at gunpoint, etc..

w00dland wrote:How are you supposted to know you have a heart condition? The problem with the bigger, taller coasters is the fact that they really get the adrenaline pumping through the body like no other, and people aren't going to go to the doctor everytime they visit a theme park, so what are we going to do about it? Station a cardiologist at every ride entrance?

Ok, now, thats a little too much. Now true, most people that have minor heart conditions don't know. But on the other hand, if you have a serious heart condition, you most likely see a doctor regulary. But on the same token, most people don't feel as if they need to. While its true that some people arent smart engough to go to doctors when they have serious condition, thats their fault, but thats also the minority. And if they dont go to the doctor, they still know about it and would most likely have the common sense to stay of the ride anyway.

Ok, wow thats extremely sad. New ride and fairly young guy. I think we should face it, amusements parks are starting to go down hill and the sad part is, its not the parks doing it.
YEA!!!! THREE MONTHS TO GO!!!!!!!

Amusement parks aren't going down hill. If you think Six Flags is that has nothing to do at all with ride deaths at all. Less than 20 years ago we didn't have a coaster that hit 200 feet, now we have one at 450 feet. Unless ride manufacturers start becoming at fault for the deaths don't expect theme parks to let up, because the big bad ride will always bring people in the gate.
