There is a switch to turn on and off the effects from the control panels.

i was there on saturday night
and Giant Drop was just good ole drop with the exception of no hellevator, running 3 cars and Car #5 up on blocks.
they probably dont want to draw a lot of attention to it, since it is not running to full capacity
also zjohn how can there be a switch on the control panel when obviously it is not hellevator. it would be a lot like Terror Twister when they add the effects just for fright fest.
The sign is up because it was put up on accident, nothing else in terms of theming was put up because it can only run half capacity.
There is a switch on the control panel for "effects" however all that does is switch on those thunder sounds in the queue.
SFGAm 07 is correct, they accidently put the sign up. But they took it down already
Giant Drop is NOT Hellevator this year.
and yes the only effect on the control panel is the sounds in the queue, it does not have the fright fest theming.
Allright hehehe.....There are 5 switches on the sound panel which is on the left of the actual control panel.
Turn On/Off Quene
Turn On/Off Station
Turn On/Off Tower
Turn On/Off Effects
Turn On/Off Sound
During the fright fest maintnance plug in the fright fest themed songs to sound panel, which is connected to the ride, so everytime they push on enable to start the ride, the song turns off and effects is on. Also if the ride ops need to communicate to a guest or eachother they can simply turn off the "effect", and leave the "sound" on, and they can talk with the effets and songs off.

Because it's an Intamin. They weren't sure if it was going to be operating during Fright Fest because something was seriously wrong with it. They had to fix the problem instead of worrying about transforming it for Fright Fest. Safety ALWAYS comes first.
its good that they fixed it maybe next year it will be helevator but nobady wants to get stuck at the top of the giant drop as deja vu girl said SAfety comes first!
The reason its GD instead of Hellavator is because they want as little attention to the ride as possible. Since they only fixed half the ride, it being run in half capacity and Hellavator would be a major problem.
