Viper Backwards?

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby EmuZombie on September 17th, 2006, 9:58 pm
I don't like to start rumors, but after noticing this, I'm 95% sure this is going to be the case.

I went to the park today (9/17/06) and noticed the photo booth covered. The normal on ride camera that takes the pictures was not operating (ie, not flashing). Later on, just past the normal camera there is a new one that is operational but this one is aimed backwards so it takes pictures of the back of your heads. Now, this camera only makes sense if they plan to turn the trains around and run it backwards, then it takes pictures of your faces.

What do you guys think? Did I just let the cat out of the bag?

The camera is having electrical issues and was being worked on/not used this weekend, Viper will not be running backwards, ever.

Eh, I dont think so. Theres a lot that has to be done. You cant just switch the train around and slap it on the track.

I think the park might have learned its lesson, after what AEB did to the ride after running backwards, I doubt any forwards running rides will switch to backwards.

I remember once seeing a memo from PTC once saying that thier trains should never run backward.

As stated before, forward running rides will never run backwards.

Its a lot of work to do. You must unbolt all the brakes and turn them around, line them up, rebolt them, reset the computer, and so much more. If you set up a ride the way it wasnt manufactured to be set up, it can cause more wear-and-tear on the ride systems.

Close but not quite.

It takes some work but not as much as you might think.

There is no changes needed for the computer, only thing that has to be done to the ride control system is the Proxes in the station must get repositioned. Also all the strikers for lap bar release must get flipped to the other side.

It takes about 2 weeks with 1-2 guys working on it to reverse a single train.

The brakes on the ride do not need to be flipped. Eagle blue's pct trains are the only ptc trains in our park that can be run backwards..

^No, they're on the right side. So thats another reason why they cant because the brake fin would have to be switched too.

No, brakes are not flipped the only thing that is flipped is the brake fin. The physical brakes stay in the same location.

Eagle Blue trains are 100% identical to Eagle Red trains, and other than the lapbars identical to Vipers Trains.

Though PTC reccomends not running their articulated cars in reverse (the old boxcars run the same either way like all the Paramount Parks Racers)

Eagle Blue trains are not 100% identical, Red trains do not have the 2nd set of brake brackets welded on the bottom of the train to allow the train to run in reverse, other than that they are the same.

Ah, makes sense.

(I always love hearing what Tom Rebbie always has to say about SFGAm's "PTC" trains, that is if he doesnt just nod his head and walk away) :)
