Kiddieland!--9/8/06

Let us know how your day at the park was.
Postby Trailblazer Tony on September 9th, 2006, 12:34 am
Yeah, so this was my first time returning to Kiddieland in a couple years and I have to say, upon first glance at the park, the rides seemed a lot smaller than I remembered, however, once inside, it all started to feel the same again! It was a buyout so lines weren't expected to be so bad, plus you can't go wrong with free pop. 8)

Little Dipper: This is the only roller coaster here, and although it is pretty small, it is one heck of a ride. This is probably my favorite kiddy coaster! It is so smooth, delivers nice pops of air, and it is very old fashioned, all the way down to the giant levers the ride op has to pull on to start the ride. Both times i rode it, it had a five minute wait. 4/5

Dip'n Drop: This is your typical frog hopper, you know, the yellow ones with the globe on the top that runs both sides of it. I absolutely love these rides, so naturally this one was awesome as well. Both times i rode it it had a five minute wait. 4/5

The Log Ride: The first time we rode, we didn't get too wet, but the second time we leaned into the turns and we ended up getting pretty wet. Both times had about a five minute wait. 3.5/5

The Whip: Yeah, so they have a kiddy version of those classic whip rides and although I was clearly to old to ride it, i did anyways, and twice! Both times were walk ons and it still whipped you around at a farely decent rate. Best kiddy ride i've ever ridden! 3/5

Polyp: This is kind of like the East River Crawler only painted like a frog. Great ride, but much shorter than the East River Crawler, I couldn't believe it ended as fast as it did. We had a two cycle wait. 3/5

Galleon: This ride is just like River Rocker, only it seemed slightly taller. It was about a 5 minute wait for back row. Really fun and we were making all these crazy faces and some kid called me the Boogeyman and said i was the toughest guy on there. Whatever that means... 3/5

Tilt-A-Whirl: It was a 10 minute wait and I got it spinning SO FAST the entire time!! Which is very rare for me so i was pleased. 3/5

Scooters: This is the bumper cars, however, theirs has a giant baracade going through the middle so you have to drive around in a circle while bumping, it's not just a free for all. I had a lot of really good smashes, but not worth the 10 minute wait. 2/5

Overall, it was a nice night, we got on almost everything so it was fun. I don't know how many more years i'll have to enjoy this place, so i thought i'd enjoy it like my last!

^It's on the corner of 1st Ave. and North Ave. ? and it's in Melrose Park. I'm at UIC, so it's like 15 minutes from here.

They do this year.

A furious storm once roared `cross the sea, catching ships in its path, helpless to flee. Instead of a certain and watery doom, the winds swept them here to Typhoon Lagoon!

Nothing was set up in terms of decorations for an event, but they might have one.

They have a Halloween event about every year know. It's called the Festival of Happy Haunts. During this event, the employees can be dressed up in costumes, the carousel becomes a walk through with it being dark in there.

They basically close all the doors, and have a wood cutout to get in it. It doesn't move, but it is really decorated. There might be someone going around in the carousel, or there might not be. It looks really cool though. On the train, they do have some decorations, and they also have a Hay Ride in the back of the park. They give kids pumpkins, have some Halloween lights, have Bingo sometimes, and basically have hay stalks around the park. That's about it. The other rides are completely the same.

I really do like the Polyp, but I don't think it's anything compared to Easy River Crawler. You get really pushed to the side on this ride compared to East River Crawler. The cars don't move on this ride like they do on the East River Crawler. That ride breaks down quite a bit. By this, I mean maybe every year or two. I know it's not everyday, but it's still somewhat bad. So, the crew (one person) probably is now told to not run it a long time so they don't break the ride.

I do also really like the Dippin Drop. These rides are so much funnier than the Giant Drops, and the S&S towers in my opinion. They do make taller ones than this one, and it would be great to go on a taller one.
