WDW 8/5 - 8/10 Very Long

Let us know how your day at the park was.
Postby FRD714 on August 11th, 2006, 5:23 pm
8/5 - Arrival and Magic Kingdom

We arrived at WDW at about 12:30pm. Checked in at the Pop Century Resort, got our tickets and headed out to the Magic Kingdom. Of course, the first thing we did was the newly rehabbed Pirates of the Carribean ride. Ive been waiting to ride this with the mixed reviews I had heard. The line was out of the entrance when we go to it, but it was moving fast. 25 minutes later we were on a boat. We turned the corner and the first thing I noticed was a waterfall effect which was very cool. As we made our way through the rest of the ride, I did notice Jack Sparrow, but that was basically it. I walked off thinking "that was it?" So I guess people who thought Disney had ruined the ride, they are wrong. Its mostly the same.

Next was Splash Mountain. After being caught in the parade, we got in line. It had a 30 minute wait. Great ride as usual.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad was right next to it and my parents got us fastpasses, so we got in line. Awesome ride with lots of airtime. Can never get enough of this coaster.

Haunted Mansion was right across the lake, so we headed over there. The line was short. This is definetly a classic. It seems theres always something new you see everytime you ride.

Walking right through Fantasyland, the Barnstormer coaster was next in Toontown. For a kiddie coaster, its alright, but if you want to get some sort of thrill out of it, ride back. Its a very short ride too.

We then took the back way to Space Mountain. Grabbed some fastpasses and waited in line since it was short. We rode omega side, which in my opinion is better than alpha.

After we rode TTA. You get about 10 minutes to relax and see all of Tomorrland.

It was then time to use our fastpasses for Space Mountain. We rode 2 times on omega again. I think we rde omega all trip.

We wanted to go to MGM, but it was getting kinda late so we headed back to frontierland to marathon Splash and Big Thuner Mountain.

8/6 - MGM Studios and Magic Kingdom

I couldnt wait to get over to MGM since my two favorite rides are there, Rock n Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror. We darted down Sunset Blvd. and got fastpasses for Tower. Then waited in line for RnR. About 30 minutes and we were in front row. Awesome ride.

Next was Tower. For some reason, the stand by line was mostly short for the whole trip. Now they say the profiles are random and are always different, but I think theres a few profiles for each shaft because I did ride the same profiles a few times each.

Then it was more RnR and ToT for a while. Great Movie Ride was next. Not a big fan of this ride, but you gotta ride at least once a trip.

Star Tours was next on the list. I really like this ride, but I only rode it once the whole trip.

Finally it was time to see the newest show at MGM, the Lights, Motors, Action stunt show. After a show cancellation last year, I was anxious to see this becuase it looked pretty cool on shows I had seen. I thought it was pretty good. Theres definetly some close calls in there which make it exciting. The part where the motorcycle slides through the fire didnt work so I was kinda bummed. All in all I liked it and I would see it again.

Now it was back to marathoning on Sunset Blvd. After a few rides we went over to Magic Kingdom for EMH night. The park was open until 1am. We got our wristbands and headed over to Frontierland for some mountain rides.

Then to Space Mountain for the rest of the night. We got fastpasses and then waited in line. We were finally on our last ride of the night.

We waited about 5 minutes. Headed up the lift hill and when we got to the top I noticed a small light in under the structure that wasnt supposed to be on. No more than 10 seconds later, the lights came on! I was in shock because I had never seen it with the lights on in real life, nor ride it. So we continued until the big drop, which is the third and final drop. After 5 minutes a CM came up and told us what was going on. Of course I whipped out the camera and grabbed some photos as well as videos. After all the trains in front of us finished there circuit, the CM came back up and pushed our train off the block. We finished the ride very slow and got a great view of the entire structure. Then they told us we would re-ride so we went back up to load so see it again with the lights on. Finally after 10 minutes they turned off and we rode. This was definetly a highlight of the trip.

8/7 Animal Kingdom and MGM Studios

Alright, after all the research I had done on the new attraction, Expedition Everest, it was time to ride. Once again there were a lot of mixed reviews about this ride. I went into it thinking it wouldnt be that great. Standy by had a 30 minute wait so we got some fastpasses and waited. I believe I got back of the train. We made our way through the first part of the ride and headed up the lift for a great view of WDW. Then after being stopped on a hill becuase the track was twisted up, we went backwards. This was so intense and was really fun. Then we started going forwards down the awesome 80 ft. drop and back into the mountain. After the helix it was yeti time! This thing is huge and moves extremely fast. This ride is awesome! I ended up riding 6 times that day.

We went over to Dinoland for 2 rides on one of my favorite dark rides, DINOSAUR. Great ride. I love the time rover.

Then it was tiem for that spinning nightmare, Primeval Whirl. Its just out of control. Thats all I have to say.

We headed back to Asia for some more rides on Everest. We planned on going to Epcot that night, but we ended up at MGM for more RnR and ToT marathons. I just cant get enough of them.

8/8 Animal Kingdom, MGM Studios and Epcot

Back to Animal Kingdom in the morning for 3 rides on Everest, and one more ride in DINOSAUR.

It was still early, so we went yet again to MGM for RnR and ToT marathons.

Ok finally we make it over to Epcot. As soon as I got in the park, I went to Soarin for some fastpasses, but whats this, fastapsses are out and therers a 90 minute wait! Well I wasnt waiting, so we just came back later.

Test Track was the first ride. Most people hate this ride, but I still like it. I noticed some new effects and lighting, but then theres the bad. My car had no audio and the burning rubber smell wasnt working. I got back in the single rider line to ride again. Of course, it wasnt much better. The audio finally worked, but we had slowed down during the cornering part. Then we stopped in the barrier test for 10 minutes. That stupid truck kept going off becuase a car was on the sensor. Then we we got up to the barrier test and slowed down right before the door that opens. We had slowed down quite a few times during teh high speed loop. The car actually hit the brakes so hard we skidded about 10 ft. Smoke came from under the car and then we smelled the rubber. I didnt know the cars could even do that.

So after I talked to a CM and he gave me re-entry passes. We headed back to Soarin since Illuminations was about to start. It said 80 minutes, but we waited anyway. It ended up being about 20 minutes. Pretty good ride.

I then thought about riding Mission Space since I had neve been on it before. I ened up doing the less intense green side 3 times that night. Its actually still a good ride. The simulator part still works. Then it was back to Test Track for 3 more rides to end the night.

8/9 Magic Kingdom and MGM Studios

One last visit to Magic Kingdom. We went straight to Tomorrowland for 3 rides on Space Mountain. This could be my last 3 rides on this ride since it may get a rehab in 2007.

Then we headed to Frontierland for 1 ride each on Splash and Big Thuner Mountain.

Now we went to MGM becuase it was EMH night. Of course we stayed on Sunset marathoning RnR and ToT all night. ToT had 90 minutes listed on its wait at one point, so we got in line for some reason. The funny thing was, it was really a walk on. The fastpass line was actually longer.

8/10 Leaving WDW

With the terrorist crap, it was fun getting home. Our flight was suppose to leave at 12:25pm FL time. We got delayed for hours and didnt get home until 8pm Chicago time. We were in the air for 4 hours. Kinda strange...

All in all it was an awesome trip. One of the best we have had there.

Heres some ride counts.

Awesome trip! I, too, love Test Track, no matter whay everyone else says.

I flew home this morning, and waited 2 hours in security because people don't understand how to throw out their water bottles and hair gel...

^ I think the rule here is "If it's against park rules it's against our rules" ....the video should be okay.

But I'm not a mod, so don't listen to me.

Awesome trip report!!! Those ride totals are amazing, I would never be able to keep up :).

Okay so I have a couple of bones to pick with you though. How can you go to MGM and not see Fantasmic? That is single handedly the best show Disney has ever come up with. Oh, and Mission: Space isn't too intense, when you return you should give the real side a try too, but since you loved Dinosaur so much (as do I), i'll let that all slide...
RIP: Trailblazer and Deja Vu...heck, even Alien Encounter :(

Fangs Up Cobra Style!!!

When you saw the lights on in Space Mountain, did they "dump" the building of all the people?

^No, they let everyone stay. It wasnt a break down, just a slow guest. Only one switchback was open anyway, so there werent that many people in there.

Those Space Moutnain pics are really interesting. I never thought it would look that way with the lights on.
