Iron Wolf's new harnesses

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby playmateoftheyear2006 on June 17th, 2006, 4:18 pm
On friday at six flags, the line for iw was short, but it took forever to get to the ride due to the fact that the yellow harnesses were being replaced on the second train. The first train is done, and they are very nice, but i had the worst ride i have ever had on this day, hit my head a lot, and it was very rough. I was hoping that this might be the last year of this ride, if they had to take a coaster out, but with new seats, maybe it is staying for at least one more year (if we even have a chance of getting a new coaster). Also, vu is running really well and fast, the only rough spot i found was on top of the first part of the boomerang both times i went on it.

Yup, I noticed the new harnesses... while they look nice, they hurt like hell, because the foam padding is brand new and stiff... they'll get softer as they age. But until then, I probably won't ride again.

Yeah, it'll take some time for the new harnesses to be good again..but IW is 50/50. I've had PAINFUL Wolf rides and i've had Wonderful, smooth Wolf rides.

My view on the whole Iron Wolf bumping your head is better if you are in the first train. Besides the reastraints are at least soft...kinda.

the new harnesses are slightly smaller in length. I need time to readjust.

I can usually avoid the headbanging by leaning my head the way it's gonna go anyways, but for some reason with the new restraints I couldn't do it and my head was just thrashed.

I can't believe they made the ride worse than it already was which is hard to do. They do really hurt. They should put the old ones back on. I smell doom, and demise for this ride.

I believe they did the same thing to Batman the Ride. They had a train today with only dummies on it. So, they probably are also new harnesses. This is a hunch, and probably true. However, when I was at Six Flags Over Georgia, it didn't hurt just for the fact that it was Batman. So, this shouldn't be a big deal.

From what I understand BTR does NOT have new harnesses.

BTR just got a new/fixed lift motor, so the dummies were just standard testing.

They were sending trains with guests at around 7:00.

The new harnesses don't really hurt more to me. Plus I really never bang my head much because I can always keep my head still.

Did the ride ops tell them they couldn't ride? Because if they did then they had no idea what they were doing... You can ride it with flip flops on.

I hate when people get off because they dont want to wear their footwear. You're STANDING! Unless you lift your feet up, you wont lose anything..

Oh its like my favorite rollercoaster in the park because it is so darn aggressive & violent....thats why most dont appreciate it. however you just gotta know how to handle it, how to sit. The B&M style restraints are definatley better than the old old ones though.

Ive got my left ear cartalige peirced and if I dont keep my head forward itll bleed like it has 4/6 times ive gone....

so youre wondering why I still like it then and that im plain stupid..[?]

well I just appreciate its streak its presented of bein B&Ms first, a great mix of twists, air, and elements alone, and its aggressivness...For the ending twists of the ride, IRON WOLFs got alot of air in the last rows when it changes quick direction....those are my reasons.

In what way?? Who cares if they look better if they hurt a lot more. A ride that is known as a headbanger has just gotten worse. This isn't going to help save this ride. Just because something looks better doesn't mean that it rides great.

Look at Ninja at Six Flags Over Georgia. They painted it for this year. People flocked to this ride at the beginning of the year. Later in the year (I know it's only July), the line has become a walk-on in which it is known for. It doesn't matter if it looks better if it still hurts. People will realize it soon enough. Even if Iron Wolf gets a paint job, this won't help it's popularity.

The same thing happened with Shockwave in its last few years. In the morning, the ride would have a long line, but later in the afternoon it was a walkon because everyone thought it was rough.

Iron Wolf is a fun ride but is really starting to show its age. The ride badly needs some new paint and one of the worst headbangers in the park is getting worse. Plus I have not seen a full queue all season when last year almost every visit I saw it with a full or almost full que.

I still say that Iron Wolf is my favorite standup. For some reason, B&M's smaller standups are more intense than their big ones. IW and Georgia Scorcher rock, while Mantis, Riddler, and Chang bore me.
