Government listening in on your calls

A Off-Topic forum to discuss things that aren't related to the Amusement Park Industry.

Do you think this is right? I don't think it's right unless the government feels that you are a threat. What do you think?
It's green. It's blue. It's all over you! Enjoy your ride on Déjà Vu

^I don't think they'd waste their time if it wasn't already a threat.

Most of our phone calls aren't quite as interesting and juicy to people that don't know you/

1) They are not listening to your calls. They look at telephone numbers incoming, or outgoing, that may look suspisious (sp) to Iran, Syria, Afganastan, Iraq, or any other nation that is known to harbour terrorist. An incoming call that last 5 minutes from Syria at 2:00am every other week, to a person in the states would indeed seem strange, and they would look into it.

2) If it is going to keep us safe here at home, then I am all for it.

3) The government has better things to do, than to sit there and listen to see if Peggy Sue got laid by Jim Bob, or if your Grandma's cookies turned out ok.

4) If you are doing nothing wrong, then don't worry about it.
If it walks like socialist, quacks like socialist, smells like a socialist, .... it's a socialist. Hope, and change we can believe in.

During a time of war, the President is allowed to suspend rights and laws.

There was no formal declaration of war. As of now, it's only a conflict.

^sure about that? don't believe everything you hear in school kiddo.

And yes. Only calls that are suspicious would be monitored. And the gov't would probably be bored shit of my calls, so I don't care if they listen to it anyway, even though they don't.

I care. Our "freedom" here in America is diminishing more and more each day. Until people quit believing propaganda that is spoonfed to them from the tender age of 5, things are to continually get worse. Wake up. Our freedom is a joke.

And no, I'm not saying this because I'm doing something wrong.

Our freedom is being taken away from us more and more...ever heard of the Real ID? Bush passed the bill last May. Basically every state's BMV system is going to have to redo their system to make it a nationwide system. Eventually you will have to show your ID which a the cashier will scan every time you make a purchase, the outcome being our personal purchased being tracked. That's true freedom....we might as well be China.

If that is real, how exactly does that effect your daily life anyway? So the gov't may know you smoke and like Cheetos a lot, but they don't care. Unless you are buying a bunch of makings of a homemade bomb or some majoy credit card fraud.

And by the way, if we were China you would be arrested for saying what you just did if the gov't found out.

Do a little research and don't just listen to your liberal teachers/friends.

See for yourself. It was all over CNN last year.

FYI, I'm not some 11th grade anti-bush politics major who has nothing to do but think of ways to offend people and "how to spread the best lies". I do my own research and choose to inform myself (and others) of what is going on in the world. Its my responsibility to be in the know as an american citizen and to protect my rights.

It effects everyone's lives, its about freedom (or lack thereof). The founding fathers would be rolling over in their graves if they knew what this country has come to. Apathy is not the best policy.

The Real ID system is pretty much a National ID system, nothing more. I haven't seen anything in the bill (The actual bill, I skimmed through it, but didn't not give it a thorough read) that says anything about presenting the card every time you make a purchase.

Where people are drawing these ridiculous conclusions about monitoring are coming from is the part that says all ID's must contain a common machine readable technology that must contain a minimal amount of data elements. Does anyone have a job where they swipe a card with a magnetic strip to punch in? Its an anti-counterfeiting technique.

As far as what has already been done concerning listening in on phone calls (Or monitoring calling patterns) I am against. The arguement of "If you're not doing anything wrong, you have nothing to worry about" goes against the idea of freedom. If you keep slowly giving up all your rights, don't be too shocked when you realize you have none left.
