Since I got severe weather coming toward my area again, I thought I would bring you another of these outlook graphics I made. Thanks to Wxchat for providing the models.
Looks like the next few days, starting tonight, will be quite on the stormy side of things. I'd be more technical but currently my tech skills arn't that great but I am working on it. Based on what I do know, it looks like the storms will start out in eastern Iowa and slowly work there way toward us as the evening progresses. Large Hail and Damaging Winds look to be the main threat.
Retracting earlier statment. Tornadoes seem to be growing more likely for our area. SPC does have us in a 2% area with a 5% close by. We also have some very warm temps just to our west and heading our way(we're currently at 63F with temps up to 70F just a county over). Instability also seems to be increasing and the cap decreasing. Were definetly in for a rough night. Be on the look out. Galvan or Aero, if that is wrong please let me know and if you guys could elaborate a bit more on this that'd be great.
Aero: Check out my topic on this at WxChat.
This is where I would usually put stuff. Can't think of anything right now... =/
those are clouds. The whiter the clouds, the more water they carry. Anyway, if you look at the radar, there are several severe T-storms over the IL/IA border. If they don't weaken, this is going to be one fun night.
Just to let you guys know, Iowa City had 5-7 Tornado Touchdowns
this evening. These Tornadic storms are heading towards Galesburg, IL
and Peoria, IL (Where I live).
My father is incharge of the Salvation Army Disaster Response for
Central IL and Eastern Iowa, so we are getting confirmation calls, left
and right tonight!

Yeah, stay safe. these 2 Supercells are definetly very dangerous. In addition to that, these storms ahve been producing up to softball size hail.
Edit: At 9:49 there were 3 tornadoes on the ground at the same time with the 1st supercell at the east end of MUSCATINE, the one that is headed straight for you. Now, a lot of these tornadoes will be brief ones but still can be deadly.

Just ran down to the park on the giant hill to watch lightning with some friends. It's damn near impossible to get a good shot of lightning with a still camera but this is the best I could do.

The area is in a highly unseasonable pattern right now, Temperatures officially hit 80 in Chicago and 88 in St. Louis.
In April especially when we see days this warm this early, we tend to get very very powerful thunderstorms in the area.
Tomorrow (at least in Joliet) the Temperature will be well into the 80s. Typical for June, not so much for April where the average temp is usually in the mid 50s.
Right now the unseasonably warm temps are occuring because there is a very nice jet stream flowing dry desert air from the Desert Sotuhwest into our area which is conflicting with a small short wave trough as you can see on the map above. This inturn is producing the severe weather that we are seeing tonight.
Tomorrow is where things really start to get interesting. (Luckily/Unluckily for me im taking my g/f to the sox game tomorrow)
Anyway with the moderate sheer (Wind Shear....The rate at which wind speed or direction changes with distance. Vertical wind shear is the rate of change of the wind with respect to altitude. Horizontal wind shear is the rate of change in the horizontal. In other words winds blowing at different speeds at different directions.)
that will be present tomorrow afternoon and couple that with the unseasonally warm daytime heating and very steep mid-level lapse rates (LAPSE RATE- The decrease of an atmospheric variable with height, the variable being temperature, unless otherwise specified...In other words as you go up in the atmosphere, the temperature decreases. Or whatever ______ Lapse Rate you have there could be several)
Anyway all these ingredents together in conjuction with that short wave trough (in laymens terms) could potentally form Large Hail, Damaging Winds, and Tornadoes.
Forecasting and Studying Weather can be very difficult to understand, above is a very basic idea of the current conditions without going into way too much detail that it would make it very difficult to understand.
Basically, to make a long story short, Several ingredents are needed for Thunderstroms to form, Strong updrafts, wind shear, unstable atmospheric conditions and other factors cause thunderstorms.
Which are natures way of making stable an unstable atmosphere. Think of it like natures "air conditioning" And really thats what these Thunderstorms are.
