Indoor coasters

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.

What do you think are the pros and cons of indoor coasters? For example space mountain is dark which gives you a space like feel. And RNRC is good because then you have that really cool launch sequence with the tunnel. And with any dark indoor coaster, it allows you to see only what they want you to see. It also gives you a sense of surprise.

Cons- Construction. If you try to design an indoor coaster, you have to make the track fairly close together so the building isnt huge. That also limits you to track designs such as and arrow looper or a mini coaster.

Can you guys list some others?

Well theres canyon blaster over at adventure dome, Las vegas. This coaster is nearly identical to the Demon here, and the place is big enough to hold that and other amusement rides. If you want others, theres rides like rock n rollercoaster at disney mgm i beleive and thats a prime example of a good indoor coaster. Its in the dark making a suprising adventure and more exciting. Thats a pro there. However, you are right with the entire structure idea, its a problem but if you have the land to do it, why not. Plus, a tight coaster like that isnt nesessarily bad because if you look at poltergeist over at fiesta texas which is just like the flight of fears over at paramount parks. These give a unique appearence but also serve as a great tight spaced indoor thrill machine. Well theres a few viewpoints .

Pros: I would say the biggest pro to having an indoor coaster would be the theming. Since there isn't much of an environment around the ride, the theming tends to be over the top and (especially in Revenge of the Mummy's case) tends to make the ride a million times better than it would be without the theming. Also, in case of hot and/or crummy weather, it is a place you could escape that will still thrill you in some way.

Cons: I don't know, the ride is not as strong, but normally the thrills are delivered through the theming and experience so I don't see too many cons for indoor rides.

Overall, I would say that indoor coasters do nothing but encourage a creative design and in most cases, it allows for a great experience.

well if you are going theme wise, my favorite indoor coasters and theme park would go to camp snoopy, mall of america. Look at the landscaping and the colors and the theming...oh its all just simply...nice.

One of the biggest pros is that if it's raining or really cold, the rides can still operate. However that might lead to a huge line during those times.

I really don't see any cons in an indoor coaster.

RoTM was definitely the greatest indoor coaster I've ever been on. The pros are obviously because the parks can really go all out in a theming aspect of each ride since there is no weather factor to degrade your investment in the theming.

Obviously the cost of these rides are through the roof, so they aren't built at very many parks.

While I've never been to the Florida parks, I really did enjoy Flight Of Fear at PKI. I thought the theming was pretty good, and even that corny video you watch while in the queue line is interesting.
Finally Coaster Season!!

I think all the pros have basically been named, so I'm just gonna say the main con I think everyone is missing.

Usually, with outdoor coasters, the people can see the ride and they know what to expect. With an indoor, people from the midway can just mistake it for another building and skip over it. It goes the other way too, as I would be willing to bet indoor coasters turn away more kids for being too short than outdoors, simply because of the fact the stupid people might think it's just a kiddy ride.
