Favorite Dark Ride

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.
Postby Ilovthevu' on January 7th, 2006, 1:57 am
After visiting the WDW parks in the middle of December, I have found my favorite dark ride. It's not one of the traditional WDW dark rides, but rather a more intense ride in the Animal Kingdom. Dinosaur is my favorite dark ride that I've been on. It includes Dinosaurs and a moving car that moves so fast that it's not even funny. You are trying to capture a Dinosaur before the meteor hits, and in the process you are being followed by what looks like T-Rex

Can you consider Space Mountain
Space Shuttle America/Dino Island/Superstition (Dark Ride or Not)????

Other dark rides I like include:
1. Snow White's Scary Adventure (WDW)
2. Scooby-Doo Ghostblaster (SFStL)
3. Men in Black (US)
"I've been staring at the world, waiting. All the trouble and all the pain we're facing. Too much light to be livin' in the dark. Why waste time? We only got one life. Together we can be the CHANGE. So go and let your heart burn bright"

DINOSAUR: You can beat the simulator+track ride combo. Just amazing. Your being chased by a Carnasaraus most of the time.

Stars Tours????: I love this simulator ride. Its just classic.

Well, although I consider it a coaster, Revenge of the Mummy would be mine for those who call it a dark ride. Otherwise, this is my top 3

1) Dinosaur (Animal Kingdom)
2) Poseidon's Fury (IoA)
3) ET Adventure (USF)
4) Pirates of the Caribbean (WDW)
5) Mission: Space (Epcot)
RIP: Trailblazer and Deja Vu...heck, even Alien Encounter :(

i really liked the Buzz Lightyear ride at the Magic Kingdom. I'm horrible at it though, but it was fun. Maybe next time, i'll ride it with someone who hasn't ridden it before so i can get all the Z's.

I am such a child when it comes to my taste in dark rides. Mainly because the ones I love the most are the ones I first went on as a small child. Things like Pirates of the Caribbean (WDW-MK), Mr. Toad's Wild Ride (WDW-MK), and Peter Pan's Flight (WDW-MK).
Oh, and Figment! (WDW-MK) Can't forget Figment!
As far as the more exciting dark rides?
(in order of preference)
Tower of Terror (WDW-MGM)
Dinosaur (WDW - AK)
and
Rock 'n' Rollercoaster (WDW-AK)

For me it would have to be.........

1. Journey to the Center of the Earth (Disney Sea)

2. Haunted Mansion (Knoebels Grove)

3. Wacky Shack (Waldameer)

These are some fantastic dark rides that everyone should experience at least once!

Never been on a dark ride, and never been to any Disney parks and whatnot. I feel like I'm the only one in the world who's never been to any Disney park.

Dinosaur is absolutely amazing. Its one of the only dark rides that actually scared me the first time I was on it... back when it was Countdown to Exinction. Now they have the tie-in to the cute Dinosaur movie, which has nothing to do with this ultra-intense thrill ride. It's not for young children by any means.

Don't worry, your not alone. I thought I was the only one. :P

I've only been on three;

Coaster: Flight Of Fear(PKI)--Awesome!

Flat Ride: Tomb Raider: The Ride-- Neat Ride, I thought the effects were good. The ride experience was alright.

General: Scooby Doo and The Haunted Castle(PKI)-- This was pretty fun! Alot better than I expected it to be.
Finally Coaster Season!!

But it's great to not know where all the bonuses are and look down at the end and see that score. Then you get to rub it in to all your family members there with you.

So I see you have decided to set aside the traditional coaster forum and zero the topic in on dark rides. I have a lot in mind and many are now gone into the scrapyard. So I'll start with the rides still in existence today and I'll go with the extinct ones another day:

WALT DISNEY WORLD RESORT

1). Spaceship Earth -- Though it depicts the technology of today it's getting seriously dated. But is still a good ride.

2). Haunted Mansion -- The intro scared me as a kid but the ride itself never did. Great ornate set and props.

3). Pirates of the Carribbean -- A rip-off of the California version but that's the only one I've been on. It looks like a darker version of 'It's A Small World'. But watch out! There's a drop nearby!

4). Space Mountain -- Half coaster, half dark ride. I'm sorry, I couldn't keep this one off the list.

5). ET -- By far one of my most FAVORITE dark rides ever, it's too bad it's a short one. And they need to make the music loop in the space room less repetitive.

6). Test Track -- A nice trip away from the crowds. I'd prefer the old World of Motion.

7). Splash Mountain -- I have to say this is the best flume ride when it comes to props and scenery. But not to final drops; I'll give the credit to Dudley and Jurassic Park.

8). Jurassic Park River Adventure -- OK, but too predictable.

9). Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls -- This was one of the best flumes in Orlando but it could've used a heck of a lot more INDOOR time like Splash Mountain. And there's a drop missing. Too bad DUD, you lose! I'm just kidding, I like you too.

10). MIB: Alien Attack -- Mix a dark ride, pyrotechnics, 360-degree turns, and a game and you have this.

11). Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin -- A more subtle version of MIB, and on a much older track. Think 'If You Had Wings'.

12). It's A Small World -- Another classic, but try to block the song.

13). El Rio Del Tiempo -- Same as 12.

14). Universe of Energy -- Not much ride time. You only pass through two rooms and you're in another theatre.

15). The Great Movie Ride -- This takes you through a tour of a handful of unforgettable early-Hollywood flicks. Let's hope this doesn't change.

16). Tower of Terror -- Every now and then you will have to tour an old hotel building. But try to know which way you are going.

17). Dinosaur -- No comments

18). The Monorail -- And of course, who can forget that?????

SILVER DOLLAR CITY

19). Fire In The Hole -- I thought this was a coaster but it only had three elements si I'm putting this on the list. Too much darkness. One of the elements will remind you of an old classic.

20). Flooded Mine -- Kind of a cross between Pirates of the Carribbean and Buzz's Spin.

SIX FLAGS GREAT AMERICA AND ST. LOUIS

21). The legendary train tours at night. I got you on that one!

I'll be back with the extinct rides another day.

How is the Monorail a dark ride? It goes through the Contemporary resort. Is that why?? :? Jurassic Park River Adventure is like a half dark ride (when Raptors and T-Rex attacks), and half outdoors. The boats could go a little faster though.

I enjoy that ride quite a bit even though Dinosaur is my favorite "Dinosaur" ride. The Universe of Energy (with Bill Nye and Ellen) is too long. I wish they encorporated the Dinosaurs in a different way.

Dinosaur rides:
1. Dinosaur (Animal Kingdom)
2. Jurassic Park River Adventure
3. Since it's the only other one I know (Universe of Energy). I didn't even care to go on it last time because it takes 50 minutes or so.

Figment is a cool ride along with Space Mountain considering that could be a "dark ride" even though it's a rollercoaster.
