I like this comment from FParker185 from another thread about Six Flags New Orleans:

the park floods frequently, it can be under 10 feet of water one day and be open again within a week. The park was built with flooding in mind. They have the pump capacity to deal with it (so long as the source of the flood is fixed, say a broken leavee or something)

Start the pumps man!

Well, being under water for as long as it's been (I haven't heard any updates, and there is no timestamp on when those photos were taken) I think a great deal of the park is a total loss.

Wood does not last long under water and a lot of the buildings will have rotten walls and studs. All the electronics and hydrolics for the rides will have to be overhauled. I'm sure there is water inside the rides where it's not supposed to be which would lead to rust.

Furthermore, I don't think there is going to be much of a market for theme parks down there for quite some time. Also, wasnt SFNO an underperforming park? Time to write it off as an insurance claim, scrap the rides, bouldoze the property, and sell the land.

I agree aero, but wouldn't the insurance cover any damages that was a result of Katrina?

I think six flags should just get ride of SFNO while there in the process of Dumping AW. there is no point in keeping it when people in New Orleans will have no interest/time or money to actually go there for years to come. People will be more worried about rebuilding and getting there live's back to gether more then going to a theme park.

^Probably not the wooden coasters because the wood will start to rot and get weak.

SFNO doesn't have a woodie (technically). The Mega Zeph has a steel structure. So it probably has a better chance of survival.

From what I hear, SF has given up on SFNO, it really is a lost cause.

No one is left in the city to even clean up the park, and the park will be at the absolute end of any list to recieve any help, and the park has been a total disappointment attendance wise from day one, and by next year when the water drains natually, rides can survive submerged for few weeks, month or 2 max with minimal damage, but with all the oil in the water it will eat though all the watertight seals on most electronic cabinets, so basically if they is still water sitting in the park in Nov, it's a good bet the park will Never reopen, and the land will be sold off with rides being scrapped.

Now if SF sent people down and acted fast soon after the hurricane, they could be sitting high and dry by now and with any repairs being made and the park would be ready to reopen next year. To bad SF is on the verge of bankruptcy and cant afford to do any of that.

Just wanted to let you know if you didnt read the OFF-TOPIC FORUM....

1 of the leavee's has slightly breeched and new orleans is reflooding at 5-10 inches per minute...they are worried that as the hurricane gets closer and passes by. all the leavees they fixed will break/breach and new orleans will be back to square 1

Six Flags New Orleans is outside the rest of New Orleans and has its own levee system. Just because New Orleans is flooding doesn't mean that Six Flags New Orleans is too.

Burke doesnt know his ass from a hole in the ground, now if that hole was a federal tax loophole, it'd be a different story.

Seeing as the park has made absolutely no effort to drain the park despite all the capitol invested there, it's a safe bet, the park isnt reopening

(also someone at SFGAm recently came from SFNO(was their operations manager), so word comes around fast.

Also, loose the attitude.

That's just totally sad  . I was just there about 3 weeks before Katrina hit. The park wasn't that abd in terms of cleanliness, but it needs to be expanded with attractions. Sorry, a little off topic. I just thought it could have a good future.

I doubt that. Six Flags is in a 75 year contract with the city. SF wont sit there and lose money off of it, they will re open it and try to make some money.

If you hate Burke why do you year after year patronize to his company?
