Stratas...how are they?

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.
Postby CoastsToCoasters on September 8th, 2005, 1:59 pm
Are stratas worth being obsessed over? Ive never been on one(TTD, KK) but when I finally do  , will I be dissapointed or will I be  ? I dont want to over-estimate it you know, I mean I absolutley love their design, height, and speed! I hope to go to CP for Halloweekends, so what are youre thoughts?

They're fun. I rode TTD over the summer and the speed was great during the launch.... however, I think Raging Bull's first drop in the back row delivers better air.

Hate to burst your bubble strata but TTD will be down for Halloweekends. I've been on it many times though and it is defnitely worth the hype.

Why would it be down for Halloweekends? It was running fine two weeks ago.

Anyways...I prefered Top Thrill Dragster over Millenium Force. But it seems as if the OTSR's would ruin the ride..for me atleast.

Stratas are definitly worth all the hype. I rode TTD this summer and will never forget feeling the speed of the launch and then the view of the park and lake Erie at the top of it. And who could forget the way down which is just amazing. Standing in line is worth the wait watching everyones reaction after they pass over the finish line. Its an amazing ride the best in my opinion. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

It will most likely be down Halloweekends...but go anyways it's such a good time! Here's the link.

I already got my tickets and room so I'm still going regardless.

Well, it is down now, and this is according to Cedae Points website, so I am pretty sure its accurate. And as far as I know, they don't usually post that a ride is down unless it will be down for sometime. Maybe next year bud. Hope for you(and the group I am going with) that it opens though.

Park has confirmed the Super Huge Intamin Giga Big Thing(sounds better than strata), may be down for the rest of the year due to technical issues. I guess their "official" stance is it is unknown if it will reopen this year.

Though I do enjoy TTD, I dont find it to be say a to 10 or even top 30 ride, mostly due to the fact it's a one trick pony, one hell of a trick, but still ride is far to short for my tastes.

What I meant was that Cedar Point posted on their site that it will most likely have ended it season early, due to "mechanical difficulties". Since they have not predicted it being back up this year, there is no way you can predict it will. We will just have to wait and see. But a park is not going to announce one of their biggest attractions is closed for the season if it may not be, since many people may cancel trips and ergo they lose money.

Stratas...They can be best described as the latest coaster fad to make the experience a taller, faster one. They should stop going for the height and make more interesting ones with inversions, hills, and other elements. A coaster should be more than up and down then done. Though the ones like TTD and KK and probably more to come are thrilling, I'd rather ride Stormrunner or Superman: Escape, there is more to them.

Good news for those who have a trip to CP planned for Halloweekends:

Top Thrill Dragster is still down for the start of HalloWeekends, but it might be running by next weekend, said Cedar Point spokesman Bryan Edwards.

I read in a recent trip report 2-2 1/2 hrs including break downs. I waited close to 4 hours for TTD the year it was built, that was like 5 or 6 breakdowns. I remember the first year a rollback would cause a half hour break down. Now its about 5-10 minutes.

A rollback doesnt break down the ride, they just have to wait for the train to get back to the start of the launch track. The train moves really slow back after it hits those brakes, I was on one, as soon as we got back to the launch, we were sent again, there was no break down at all.
