Is there any possible room for new coasters?

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

At PGA Top Gun goes kind of behind the Theatre Royal. Could SFGAm possibly put a ride or coaster there?

Yes - there is plenty of land behind the theatre and by roaring rapids. You would have a long line like Viper or Eagle.

I don't believe anything will ever go behind the theatre and roaring rapids... Yes there is room, but... there comes in another part that I just hate... The neighbor's, they complained when Shockwave was built, and they still complain about superman because they don't like hearing people scream. So if something were to be built even closer, I'd bet they'd fight it worse. :-p

I agree with Tom Crean - Traitor. Those people complain too much.

The part that really irk's me though is this ( Stands on his soapbox) What did the people expect when they moved next to the park, when it was first open in 1975, there was nothing around it, like a desert oasis, and now these people have the right to complain when Gurnee would be nothing without Six Flags Great America? ( Yes I know about the Gurnee Mills Mall, one reason that they chose Gurnee though was because of Great America.) I just don't see any reason for these people to complain, but I would hope that Great America would put something back there and say "You knew what you were getting into when you moved next to us, so too bad for you" But since that'll never happen, they'll probally just have to pay a visit to IB.... ( Gets off Soapbox...)

"I don't like this! My house is right under you're flight path!" I'd imagine thats what some county meetings are like around here. Airport has been around for a long time, and lots of subdivisions are popping up around it. Idiots in the subdivisions complain, and try to stop progress, even though that progress is what stimulated enough growth in the area for them to move here in the first place. Same thing with Great America's neighbors. Those people should just have a hole drilled in thier throat so they can't talk. (I know I'm extreme, but people sometimes need to have extreme things done so they get the point.)And the person who brought up PGA's Top Gun. That makes me think there is plenty more room than any of us thought. I talked with a guy who was at that park while in line for Deja Vu. He said there is a support for Top Gun right in the middle of Theatre Royale. If our Great America would be willing to modify buildings, we could have coasters go above them, and supports right through them. There are plenty of sound-dampening technologies where the only problem supports would cause is being an obstacle to walk around in the building, so sound really wouldn't matter too much.

I totally agree with T_Biggs. The second part is interesting and I will think about that for a while.

Great points Kyle & T_Biggs .. There is plenty of room especially behind the rapids cave and Top Gun's placement is very cool and could be even more workable at SFGAM.However, with Kyle's excellent reminder of the problems with noise (see whiners v. City of Chicago re O'hare for a real group of unsympathetic louts) and the fact that it is alot cheaper upfront and operationally to just wipe an area clean of an old ride, I wouldn't count on anything going in there or the other area I mentioned previously in the Shockwave thread. When SFGAM decides to add another coaster, my guess would be the get rid of something else. Its a shame too. Hopefully IT will be Space Shuttle and Go Karts. Good area for queue, station, shed, if they ever get a rocket/bullet/speed coaster and then run the track along the border of parking lot and sw territory.

Lets not group all these neighbors together. The ones that I sympathize with are the neighbors that have been in their houses before the park was built. These houses that border the pond right up to the park have been there longer than the existence of the park. They have a right to gripe. The ones that moved in after the construction of the park can basically take their complaints and shove it up their @sses.Gurnee Mills was not built because of SFGAm. It was built there for the same reason that SFGAm was located there. Easy on and off access from the tollway and Gurnee is pretty much centrally located between Chicago and Milwaukee.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

Thank you Chitown! You have to look at it from a money standpoint. It's cheaper to wipe out a ride because the infrastructure is already there (surrounding park areas anyways, i.e. restrooms, paths, retail, etc...) if you build in a parking lot, then you have to create that from scratch.Cheap is in right now. Next place for a coaster in the parking lot would be on the lot area just outside SSA and the Go Karts.Think long and hard about where in the park the next attraction will go go.I already gave it away.

Since this topic is about room for new coasters, here is an aerial view of SFGAm from space a few years back.http://terraserver.microsoft.com/image. ... =16&w=2You can use the link to search for other theme parks, like Cedar Point, or look for your hometown.

I saw that picture before. There is a lot of land that they must own but claim not to have.

Here are the color photos of SFGAm from the air:http://www.weezil.com/sfgam/The site says the photos are from 2001, including a shot of Shockwave/Superman's location in the parking lot.

This is a question, not a suggestion,Is there any room for a possible coaster between the stip of land between the Eagle (Red Side) and Washington Blvd. (Or whatever the street name is). Could they close off that back entrance to the parking lot and run a coaster along Eagle? Have the queue/station/shed by the employee road near Iron Wolf. Out & Back the track along the outside of Eagle? Is this plausible or way to delusional?

Scratch the queue/station/shed by Iron Wolf ... I meant SkyDive/Resturant to the Right of Eagle .. I was thinking of two different things. Better yet maybe even share the Big Top Tent for the new queue
